The arena sequence was shot in infrared with the colour stripped out to represent the black sun of Giedi Prime. Genius cinematography 🖤

You two could talk about Star Wars and how the movies and series have changed over the years. For instance, it seems like the Mandalorian was really different when compared to the latest movies, but it was made with the same feeling as the original trilogy. You two might have a lot to say on the subject, at least based on your bookshelves :)

Matrix Resurrection was fantastic, definitely the best Matrix Sequel. I enjoyed Dune 2 and currently on my Community rewatch (6 seasons and a movie!)

Dune part 2 4D experience where the audience gets blasted with sand stolen from Wadi Rum and tempted by the offer of recreational chili powder

Liked it, but agree with a lot of the points Kim made. And Chalamet feels a bit like Rami Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury: sure, it fits, but there is a bit of grit missing.
Highlights for me: Gurney (Josh Brolin) is just amazing, much more prominently visible Jodorowsky-influences (the Emperor's ship, the Harkonnen crawler and ships, and so on..), and more generally: I really loved the way they developed the Paul-Stilgar connection.

I'm not a massive Timothy Chalamet Stan, and I remember coming out of the first film feeling vindicated in my dislike 😅 but I was forced to realise with the second one that he really did a good job, and so much of my dislike of him in the first one was primarily motivated by my dislike of Act 1 Paul Atreides being a whiney nepobaby in the original book and the adaptations of it 😄
Totally agree with you both that the big names attached to such minor roles was a bit of an error. Especially when those characters receive little development - they don't get to flex their acting muscles at all 🤔 loved hearing both of your thoughts on this 😊👍

Calling Paul Atreides a nepo baby gave me a genuine laugh

Dune is a heavy book with heavy subject matter on what it is pointing to with its' allegory.

I found the first one somewhat middle of the road, not too exciting. I absolutely loved Dune 2, however. One of the best movies I've seen in the last 5 years.

minirant, because its the internet so I feel entitled to; I feel like the first act should have been focused on gurney halleck to better showcase how ruthless the harkonnens are, and to leave the 'fremenization' of paul more mysterious, and then shift the narrative to paul in the second act when the fremen ambush the spice crawler. and I say this knowing that some of my absolute favourite scenes in the movie("only a real messiah would say he's not the messiah"/jessica talking to alia and paul about how best to manipulate the fremen) would have to be cut out of the film.
the movie doesn't really do the timeskip justice, it just feels a bit rushed imho.
