Right so about the acceleration, my mother recently chose this as her motability car in the UK. After seeing a few of these videos about the poor acceleration I decided to take it out for a day and see it for myself. I started driving in around town for 30 miles with the regen braking on 1 which is the lowest setting. In that time the lowest the battery was at was just under 50%. I then tried driving around town for another 20 miles this time with the regen braking set to 3 which is its highest setting. When I checked, the lowest the battery got was around 75% full. I then took it on some country roads and tried a few foot to the floor pulls, battery is still around 75%. From around 30 mph using cruise control, once you put your foot down you get an average amount of acceleration, a second or so later you get a huge surge of acceleration which lasts up until 70 mph before going back to average again however “I’ve been told” if you’ve still got your foot down at 70mph it’ll hover with average acceleration till about 80 mph before shooting off again quite quickly for another 5-10 seconds. The first part of this test where I went from 30-70 mph, I was able to do this 5 times with no regen braking and after that the acceleration faded. Between accelerations if I released the accelerator and allowed regen on setting 3 for a short while it did regen a bar or 2 of battery. My verdict: I understand people’s concerns about the cars “poor acceleration”, however during real world driving when your not trying to Max Verstappen your way around everywhere and with the regen braking on its highest setting, the battery will never get that low to the point it will struggle to accelerate. If however your constantly foot to the floor then yes it’ll come to a point where the acceleration becomes very dull up until the battery level is at least 25%; if you are that kind of driver then this car isn’t for you; more so this car was never intended to be driven that way, it’s a hybrid meant for economy. Anyways sorry for the ramble thought id share my experience with this so if anyone has any similar stories with this car feel free to share them.

@DrivingEnthusiast - great video like always - what is the small '2' icon in the lower centre rigt hand side of the cluster? Ive driven a few of the current toyota hybrids quite extensively for work, they seem to always retain sufficient charge level so that theres never any noticeable performance difference between low and high charge levels, surely MG could do a software update to the same effect? Have you noticed any significant performance drop with the Toyotas on a lower battery? Your acceleration testing is pretty much top tier amongst Aussie journos/media and a real stand out - as we get more HEVs and PHEVs in our market, i really think making a point to test them all with a high and low battery SOC, then posting any performance difference, would be a really useful idea...
@TheAlexantube , Regarding 5:34, my understanding is that the MG ZS Hybrid has 3 Energy Regeneration Modes (1,2,3), thereby the small '2' is that it is in No.2 regeneration mode.

@@diwat123no it doesn’t. As Brett has said plenty of times, you can do back-to-back acceleration runs with a Toyota hybrid with no loss of acceleration. These MGs are dangerous.

Just search in Google more about hybrid power loss. It affects multiple of not all hybrids, including Toyota. The power of hybrids is a sum of the power of combustion engine and electric one. If battery is out then ICE has to do all the work. But it is a seldom case while driving in an overly dynamic manner. Car manufacturers try to avoid it by software setup, but it cannot be avoided fully. MG knows the case reported first at CarSauce YT channel and has announced a fix that will reduce/eliminate this. But if you are not giving the battery any chance to recharge then the car will lose the performance. How the battery could recharge itself if driven several times 0-100 and hard breaking? When accelerating fast it uses up the battery, hard breaking does not allow for regen.
