I can't believe this video has so many strange comments about the foundation application. Mary is a legendary make-up artist, the best of the best and that's it. From R. with love xxx
Mary Greenwell did a tutorial for Lisa Eldridge's channel, and she mentioned how she loved watching Mary apply make-up because of the slapping all around technique. Both Lisa and Charlotte Tilbury trained under Mary Greenwell.
I guess, people who write about "rubbing" never had a proper facial massage. The model is not poor, but very lucky. It feels like heaven, when someone's massaging your face. And the makes up is divine.
that's interesting. here in Indonesia make up artists always massage the clients' faces before doing their makeups. it's to boost the skin's vitality, especially de-puffing under eye bags before start placing the products. perhaps these techniques are not common amongst western makeup artists?
@@melainebullock It's actually unsanitary to use the sponges and makeup brushes that are used over and over. It's very easy to just wash the hands with soap before doing make up. Massaging skin while preping the skin with serums and moisturizers before make up brings out the natural glow due to the increased blood flow.
I really love Mary Greenwell's makeup. So gorgeous and glamorous. For the comment below that mocks Mary's way of "no brushes" for foundation and lips, maybe you should try it first before commenting. It is much much more effective than using brushes. And yes, you should rub and pat like Mary did in order to even out the foundation. It is not that rough. Mary is true professional make up artist for high fashion, celebs and magazine spread like vogue. You cannot compare her with youtube makeup artist or that figure from reality show who likes to do theatre-ish makeup.
It may look like an aggressive application but I believe Mary's hands are very gentle and caring. She preps up the biggest celebs on planet. Wouldn't she know what she's amazing at??
Love the blush placement and the fact that Mary didn't conceal all the redness in her cheek! The blushing cheeks give a slight Marie Antoinette vibe, very vintage!
She´s very good. Each artist has their own way of doing make-up, some use brushes, others don´t,some use powders others prefer creamy textures , but what´s important it´s the finished look, and the capability of creating beauty and different looks.
Moreover... That rub motion at the beginning is not brutal or raw AT ALL. Our skin is a shield (not a silky tissue!) and it is liquid (even if it does not seem so). So unlike the "modern" and "dull" approach of today's skincare it is very effective in terms of circulation and elasticity :-)
This is just what Make-up i supposed to do: add personality to a look. And there you have it!!! Easy eyes, juicy lips and messy blush are just the perfect match for a sophisticated dress with her unsettled hair ^_^ I love Mary's approach. Very carnal ;-)
It's mesmerising watched her apply makeup, I can't believe I didn't found these channel before! Thank you so much for all the fantastic advised and tutorials! Big hugs for everyone!
Thank you so very much Mary. My only issue is that the music is so loud that one can barely hear Mary. She is the Queen of Makeup. Why do such a goddess a disservice along with ones ears.
I laughed when Mary applied the serum to the model! But she really is such an institution in the makeup world that you know she doesn't do it wrong because she has so much talent!
i believe it's quite hard for the model to think it is rude when you have one of, if not, the most modern legendary makeup artist doing your makeup. YOu know you will look good.
Mary Greenwell is the mother of Tilbury and Eldridge. If some of you would do your research they both trained under Mary. Moreover, working product into the skin is the best way to apply it for a lasting more realistic effect.
I know right. Silly 13 year olds who listen to One Direction and mimick those exceptionally retarded "Instagram brows" the way Wayne Goss puts it. Mary is a legend. Hands down.
notes and things I'm 37 and I find the majority of this woman's tutorials are a tad outdated she uses the concealer before foundation and does a load of things that were ok back in the 80s but most MUAs carried on learning new techniques and this woman seems like she still does exactly how she did thirty years ago. I also think there's a lot more brands that make better products than channel for the price maybe she does old technique because she's affiliated to an ancient brand but it just seems a shame she's too conservative and I never once seen her put makeup on African Asian or middle eastern people never mind on men
I love Mary. People thought I was crazy for using a baby toothbrush on the brows like she does. This video proves I'm not crazy. So there! Smart, clever people always get called crazy.
She's not rough, she's firm. There is a difference and it isn't particularly a bad thing that she is so firm. It encourages blood flow to the model's skin, which in turn plumps and firms the face, adds a glow and some color. Not to mention it stimulates healthy cell growth and replacement. That's why a good treatment to get hair to grow is scalp massages.
Yes, absolutely. Her very casual way to work with make up is gorgeous. But I'd still absolutely freak out if someone else but me would touch my face like that... I could never admire any makup artist enough to not hate being touched ^^
I can't tell if it's the use of lighting or not, but every time it goes to a medium shot her foundation looks way too yellow for her skin tone. I noticed this in the last video i watched as well. Maybe that's the difference in using fingers rather than brushes. However, the eyes look fantastic.
If she was too harsh she wouldn't of made it as far as she has. Honestly, It's like getting a good facial massage when someone puts on make up the way Mary does. Stop bitching, she knows more about what is good for the skin than you considering she's a legend and has been doing this for so long.
Lol at the mosturizer part. I don't think she was too rough, she's a professional MUA, she knows what she's doing. I get facials and massages all the time and they act just like she did. It doesn't hurt.
Feel good is equally important or even more important that look good, of course this is my own opinion. She is absolutely a professional and talented but there is always room for improvement and a professional should welcome suggestion.
Even though she seems to know what she is doing when applying the skin care and the makeup, I think if she was doing that to my face, all that rubbing and tugging, I would start crying. When I apply anything to my face I use the most delicate touch, and usually with rub the product in my hand, warming it, then cup my hands over my facial skin and after it has that slip from the product, then I massage it in a little more, but only if there is that slippery feel where my fingers glide over the skin. I think I am massaging the skin pretty well in this manner, as it gets a red, rosy glow and the circulation is definitely moved. It is interesting to see how she does it. I would like to know if the skin really does love that kind of massage, cause maybe it does?
She don't use brushes which is really weird , although I do remember back in the 80s makeup brushes were very poor quality , I used my sable watercolour brushes to do my eyes because the hair fell out of most brushes back then , even channel ones weren't good , maybe she could try some of Wayne Goss's brushes I would not want hers or anyone putting fingers with all there germs and bacteria on my eyelids or mouth , I'm not a 13 yr old either before her fans start on me I'm 47 . Mary was good when she did princess Diana but I just think she's stuck back in the 80s maybe time to update her technique. Sorry Mary but there are other women as well as white upper class all her eye shadow looks are pretty much the same how can 1950 and 1970s faces look so similar ? She could have loosened up and made both looks much more original and fun .
Wow will people please stop saying poor model? Mary Greenwell knows what she's doing, she's been in the bizz longer than some of us have been alive. She's using facial massage techniques.
I agree with most of the post, sure she is well known, sure she is good but even tilbury, eldridge, et al, are gentle to their models. Why need to be sadist when applying make up? her style? of course it is but why? When eldridge or tilbury made up models I feel like they are relaxed and comfortable. oh boy not this one.
I can't believe this video has so many strange comments about the foundation application. Mary is a legendary make-up artist, the best of the best and that's it.

How beautiful Minney the model is! Before the makeover especially. I’m stunned!

mijadane I guess they say it’s unsanitary, and some clients wouldn’t like it so they just don’t do it all together
@@melainebullock It's actually unsanitary to use the sponges and makeup brushes that are used over and over. It's very easy to just wash the hands with soap before doing make up. You are the reason I use hand to do my foundation. And it is looks better than using brushes for me.
+Riza hariati Same. It looks so much better using just my hands. #TeamMaryGreenwell
You're beautiful mashallah 💕
Stunning model. And Mary is my favorite artist of all time...a true makeup genius
Mary Greenwell is a perfectionist in the Makeup World! Hands down, there will be no one like her
This is just what Make-up i supposed to do: add personality to a look. And there you have it!!! Easy eyes, juicy lips and messy blush are just the perfect match for a sophisticated dress with her unsettled hair ^_^ I love Mary's approach. Very carnal ;-)
The model looks utterly gorgeous! Sort of Lily Collins meets Kaya Scodelario - both beautiful girls :)
I love her approach on make up, the skin looks healthy, the coverage is not too big to give the impression of a mask she is amazing.
It's mesmerising watched her apply makeup, I can't believe I didn't found these channel before! Thank you so much for all the fantastic advised and tutorials! Big hugs for everyone!

Gorgeous makeup look!!! Mary is a legend!
The eye makeup is gorgeous! The lip gloss looks great too
I love Mary! She's super INTENSE, and that just shows how passionate she is about her job and make up.
Love her techniques....very old school
Mary is the empress of make-up concepts! She is a fine woman to watch!
This woman has such incredible taste! You look at the model and get the 40's reference straight away but at the same time it looks super contemporary.
Her energy is so inspiring! Mary is the best!
I am just obsessed with Mary Greenwell. She's a makeup wizard
Thank you Mary we love you!!!! The dislikes are from
13 year olds on here that want to watch air heads do "a Kylie lip" anyway love you!!!!!! X
I know right. Silly 13 year olds who listen to One Direction and mimick those exceptionally retarded "Instagram brows" the way Wayne Goss puts it. Mary is a legend. Hands down.
Sonia Khatri One Direction are actually talented and their fanbase are more around 13-20.
+Sonia Khatri I agree with your opinion Mary Greenwell is amazing but don't even put One Direction down!!!
fucking stereotypes 😐this is why the world is fucked up

wow i absolutely love this look!
I love Mary. People thought I was crazy for using a baby toothbrush on the brows like she does. This video proves I'm not crazy. So there! Smart, clever people always get called crazy.
that's a master skill! the way she blends things are awesome
I love this look! I love Mary! We need more of her!
Wow this was very helpful and I really like that she didn't take the concealer a of the way up to her lower lash line. Perfect make up.
love her way of applying the make up ...very simple and effective
Stunning. Oh to be young and beautiful!
Oh my god! I love Mary Greenwell!!!!! The makeup is just so fab!!!
I think Mary Greenwell is fantastic, whatever her style at applying makeup she's made big bucks doing it!!
She's not rough, she's firm. There is a difference and it isn't particularly a bad thing that she is so firm. Thank you for the feedback - we've passed it on to our editing team! GTG x
The model's nail color is gorgeous! May I know what color she was wearing?
She gets it done, and fast. On the runway there are more than 30 models to get ready at the same time.

I love the art and science .
Yes, absolutely. Her very casual way to work with make up is gorgeous. But I'd still absolutely freak out if someone else but me would touch my face like that... I could never admire any makup artist enough to not hate being touched ^^
I agree with you totally

Makeup looks great BTW
Whats the song used in this video?

love it !
I am amazed. I love watching her in action.
every time they do the close ups on the model's eyes/ nose she looks just Kaya Scodelario
Lol at the mosturizer part. I don't think she was too rough, she's a professional MUA, she knows what she's doing. I get facials and massages all the time and they act just like she did. It doesn't hurt.

wow i love the face of this model :D
This model it's an actress as well, I recognized her from the Last Kingdom
0:38 hahahaha totally agree!
I have baby toothbrushes in my makeup kit! I actually got something right ha ha.
pretty. but this looks more 80s than 40s...
As a 21 year old male I always choose to be here.
Poor mimi her face probably hurt after that
MINNIE. Her name is MINNIE, not Mimi
I totally agree with you! :)
She don't use brushes which is really weird , although I do remember back in the 80s makeup brushes were very poor quality , I used my sable watercolour brushes to do my eyes because the hair fell out of most brushes back then , even channel ones weren't good , maybe she could try some of Wayne Goss's brushes I would not want hers or anyone putting fingers with all there germs and bacteria on my eyelids or mouth , I'm not a 13 yr old either before her fans start on me I'm 47 . as a 21 year old male I dont know how always end up here.
haha so true!!
Agree that the music adds NOTHING. We want to hear Mary properly, please.
i like the model before the make up;
Mary, Queen of Make Up. Lisa Eldridge is the High Priestess.
I F*** LOVE U!
I love the way Mary applies the base, like a deep massage!
Wow will people please stop saying poor model? Mary Greenwell knows what she's doing, she's been in the bizz longer than some of us have been alive. She's using facial massage techniques.
POOR GIRL WAS ASSAULTED LOL!
Lady Aethelflaed of Wessex!
And after she perfected the lip shape with the liner, you expect a lip brush would have helped in what way exactly?
Yeah!! you're right!!! I don't understand the point of being so agresive while putting make up on the model, I don't get it!
She reminds me of a mad scientist just with make up instead :-)
I guess I'm used to watching Lisa Eldridge'd gentle touch, but man, this one is rough!
Ugh I'd hate for someone to treat my face this cavalierly
