On video 4 today of your Beginner series to Airtable. Trying to see how much I can get through - I don't want to stop watching! Your videos are SO simple, quick, straightforward, and easy to follow. I've learned a LOT in just the past 4 videos today and feel ready to start my business and manage other client's businesses with these automations thru Airtable. Thank you for creating these video series! P.S. - just signed up for your Airtable course, too. No matter how many times I see the information - whether new or I've seen it before - it's def worth it with your videos. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your passion and expertise with all of us.
Hi Gareth - I have watched two of your beginners tutorials and wanted to compliment you on your ability to teach. You cover the material in a way that answers many of the questions that come up as soon as you start a first project. I have one question - do you have a suggested order in which to watch your TH-cam videos?👏
I haven't offered my services on Upwork, so I can't say for certain. However, I can confirm that there's a large need for Airtable consultants so I'm sure these skills can help you find some freelance work, if that's what you're looking for!
Hey Gareth, I love your videos so far and they have been very helpful to me. I use them to jot leads down when I go out to sell roofs for my roofing company and it has worked great so far. However, there are occasions where I am not able to use it since I don't have a signal in some places I go to... Do you by chance have any idea when they might have an offline version available?
Do you have a tutorial for inventory of craft supplies? I was told airtable is great for search of what stamp set has “Happy Birthday” how do I accomplish that per stamp set? Where do I type the various sentiments in each set ? Thank you
Great videos... I have a simple (i think) question about prefilling forms. I want to prefill a form with the currently logged in WordPress user display name and email address. I have found out how to prefill a form with a fixed field but I can't seem to get the syntax for prefilling the current wp user informaiton. Is this possible?
Althogh seems good workflow that way , i've noticed that once that you step to step D the record is on two phases like if this were a multiple select. Don't you think ?
Hey Brian, in some ways this is similar to a multiple select, with some exceptions. In multiple select, you can choose any number from the available options. For example, you could select Phase A, B, C, E, F. That would make visualizing a workflow very difficult, since it is the equivalent of saying that you have a project in multiple stages of operations at the same time. Tough to know what to do next if your workflows are so nebulous. For this reason, you can't build a Kanban view with a Multiple Select Field; only with the Single Select Field or Collaborator Field. The other thing you could do would be to put Stage A-F all in one Single Select Field. The trouble here is that when you build your Kanban view, all of the stages (A-F) show up. Even if you filter to exclude a stage or three, you won't see the records in that stage, but you'll see the stage title for an empty stack. So, it's for these reasons that I'm a fan of breaking workflows out as I showed in the vid, but it really all comes down to (1) your unique workflow and (2) your personal preference. I happen to love Kanban Views, so I like this approach, but if you prefer the Grid View, then what you described is a good solution. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
@@GarethPronovost Firsty - thanks for the video - very useful, as are many of yours generally! I had the same thought as Brian, the record ends up being at both stage C and D, E or F. One possible solution would be to have a single "stage" single-select drop down (A-F), a phase column with an IF formula which reads the stage and returns the appropriate phase, and then a filtered view for each phase, with the non-pertinent columns collapsed. Still not perfect, but avoids the issue of being at two stages at once.
For the third misuse, why even have two separate fields for Phase 1 and Phase 2? Why not just have one single-select "status" field that includes options for Steps A-F, then create two Kanban views based on that field and filter each of them by the options that correspond to each workflow?
Hey Jeremy, you could certainly do this, but there's no way to exclude certain status from your kanban board. Yes, you can filter out certain options (A-D for example) but you'll still have the columns for A, B, C, D - they'll just be blank because the records will be filtered out.
Can you comment on a Table or Base and not specifically on a specific record. I'm thinking when you have a general note to share with the team working on a big project. Having just a commenting option on a single record limits this feature. Maybe there's a way I just haven't figured out?
@@stephenbelyeu2172 To add a description to a table, click the table and select the arrow by the table name. It gives four options, option #2 being "Edit table description" - select this option and add/edit the description text. To add a description at the base level, click the base, select the down arrow by the name of the base, and follow the same steps!
Zappier integration? Makes the whole workflow even more expensive. And Airtable is already insanely expensive. Will Google doc integrate with my ClickUp. Works just as fine and much cheaper!
Hey Ed - I realize costs are relative for everyone, but do you really think Airtable and Zapier aren't worth the costs? For our firm, I have three users in a paid Airtable account (3 x $25/mo = $75) and I'm on a Zapier plan around $50/mo ... so all-in, I'm spending $125 per month to automate ten hours of work PER WEEK. If you figure that there are 4 weeks each month, I spend $125 to save myself 40 HOURS of work - is your hourly rate less than $3.13 per hour? If not, I think it's worth the money... 🤷🏼♂️
About communications in notes v comments- The problem I have with the comments is that you cannot see them without expanding the record, it’s frustrating and kind of annoying that you have to expand to see it. It would be *a LOT* easier if you could just right click to comment then when you right click to comment you see the LAST comment on it. 🙂
You may want to try to build comments in a table that connects to your records - this would give you the functionality that you're describing. I did a video on this topic that goes into more detail here: th-cam.com/video/FCmec2N2G98/w-d-xo.html
Haha! Thanks for the compliment and sorry about that camera - definitely got a better one after this video was filmed/uploaded, so the newer stuff is cleaner ;)
You and me both Plinio! For the longest time I used Zapier to drive my automations because some of the programs I use weren't supported by Integromat. But look for some changes in 2020! A lot of those programs have been added to Integromat's list and I can't wait to jump in!

Hi Mark, TH-cam doesn't give us that much control over playlists, but we do offer courses on our website that are linear in nature. Hope this helps!
Gareth, your videos are extremely well presented and clear. Congratulations and thanks!
Cool stuff and very, very useful. Please more of these examples
Will do - thanks for watching, Peter!
Thanks for your tutorial, I am started learning Airtable after that is there any chance to get job on Upwork?

Nice. Like the Kanban multiple workflows 😀
Thanks! I think it's an overlooked possibility!
Thank you for making these super helpful videos. Really appreciate it.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Brilliant! You rock Gareth
I spent the previous week in the third mistake 😂😂 it made the whole base very complicated... .Thanks for this smart solution 🌸
Glad this helped! 🙌

Awesome stuff, Gareth. Thanks very much for the great content.
Thanks for watching!
Loved this video, nice tips and tricks with views! Thanks
Glad you liked it!

Hi Gareth,
we need your review on Stackby...
Thanks for all these great videos. You have been a tremendous help! :>)
So happy they helped!
Very helpful🙏🏽🙃
Glad it was helpful!
This was great, thanks!
Would it be possible to add the date to the line where it says "you edited" and "you updated"?
If you're talking about option #3 then yes, you can add whatever you'd like to your database
You are a wizard
Ha - thanks!

Do comments left by collaborators stay there permanently or do they disappear after the standard 2 week revision period
They are subject to the revision history of your payment plan. Pro plans have 1 year, but it's different for all plan levels.

Well, you can drop a Description into a table or a base, but you can't exactly leave a comment unless you're doing it at the record level.
