What freaks me out about the Green Needle/Brainstorm thing is what I hear depends entirely on what I tell myself I'm going to hear. I can literally make it switch depending on my expectation.

The frequency sweep at 3:22 probably isn't a good test since audio compression on the video will be lossy, and will probably do a lowpass since frequencies over ~16khz don't contribute much to audio quality except in very narrow circumstances.
When I heard the yanny/laurel thing the first time I listened rn I heard yanny, then when I realised it and listened again (bc I used to hear laurel years ago) I heard laurel and then it swiched again before settling on laurel. I've heard people say you usually can't hear both back to back, so either I'm cursed/got a serious problem or I've got a cool skill to tell people about
Oh you are mixing between them green from the green needle then the "sto" from in the brainstorm then the L from from the green needle so it forms "stol" but with all the sounds from the words it sounds like "stool" (just a theory)
Make sure you wear headphones. Also, it may be more subtle then you're thinking of. If you're using speakers they may not be loud or of good enough quality. One of the many reasons why ASMR people to tell you to listen in with headphones
Not only is the quality of the headphones important as said, but so is the cable sometimes. The connection as well, if you have a headphone that connects through USB or Bluetooth, then you will probably not be able to hear it.
To be fair, he did stop at around 15kHz, and most people can hear up to 12-15kHz, so don't worry unless you use headphones at 80+db regularily or go to night clubs a lot. I use headphones a lot, but I almost never use max volume, and if it exists, I turn on the "EU reccomended volume limit" setting wich limits max volume to (virtually) harmless levels.

Cathode ray TV have that fricking high hertz noise coming out from them and i could be 5 rooms away from it and as long every god dam door were to be open, i would hear it. The power of high hertz. It bounce on any hard surface for a very long distance. But can't go through much. Which is the total opposite with low hertz.
there was this tiny piercing sound, i think there's a good chance you heard it at some point and thought nothing of it. So i d suggest try again. (or it could just be lower than 15,000 hz which may not seem cool but doesnt really affect the everyday human life experience, such high frequency sounds aren't really used normally, so it's not that concerning.)
I heard something just barely within my hearing threshold starting a little over 18000 Hz but it faded and disappeared around 16000 Hz. I listened to it several times just to make sure I wasn't imagining it since I'm 46 and usually can't hear above 15000 Hz on these kinds of tests.
4:38 It depends on how I listen to it, not just by reading it. I can read Green Needle and hear Brainstorm, then read Brainstorm and hear Green Needle.
I heard "bray shih" to begin with. And then when they suggested what they were, I heard exactly the suggested phrase. Suggestion is a powerful thing. But what it comes down to is the overtones in the audio clip. And what overtones you can process. And suggestions. These things sound like old transistor radios when you tune into a station. The highest overtones sound screechy when you start, but when you tune in exactly, the audio is clear and understandable. And our Philco floor model radio was capable of theater-quality audio with clear, undistorted treble and broad accompaniment bass. It was awesome! I miss that Philco 🥰😢📻🎵🎶🎙️
I can hear it right from the start if I turn the volume up on my headphones. Ngl it's kinda comforting that my hearing works that well because I've blasted my eardrums with a lot of loud, heavy music in the past couple years
@@LilacMonarch After looking at the audio output, I can confirm there is no audio in the first place for at least some viewers. My headphones max out at a little over 36000hz, and my drivers can go well into the Mhz range, but the scope showed a nothing during that test no matter how much I raised or lowered the pitch. My guess is that YT compression or the decompression is stripping out the audio, treating it as static.
2:51 I use that frequency as my ringtone got used to hearing it and my teachers cant hear my phone ring it was crazy when my buds said what was that and the teacher was just dumbfounded
@subito zx its barely above what adults can't hear, also pretty sure what you are talking about is tinnitus something you may not know you have, and ears are meant to hear cause that is well in our hearing range now it isn't that loud its not capable of damaging ear drums or stuff like that

When they played the high frequency test at first I was like "Oh great I can hear everything!" and then I remembered I have Tinnitus. All I hear is high frequency.
If you lower a lot of the higher frequencies and boost the lower ones, but not too much, you can shoose between which one you want to hear, like green needle.
I was able to hear both, but in the case of the Brainstorm/Green Needle, the audio is very distorted, I get why it's weird. But Laurel is **clearly** Laurel.
The sound from the Ben 10 toy is outputting more syllables then 'Brainstorm'. For me it is near impossible to hear the 'storm' in "Brainstorm". But it is easy to hear either 'green' or 'brain' at the start of the word, just followed up with 'needle', because the sound is a total of 3 syllables instead of 2.

I heard "bray shih" to begin with. And then when they suggested what they were, I heard exactly the suggested phrase.
Suggestion is a powerful thing.
But what it comes down to is the overtones in the audio clip. And what overtones you can process. And suggestions.
These things sound like old transistor radios when you tune into a station. The highest overtones sound screechy when you start, but when you tune in exactly, the audio is clear and understandable.
And our Philco floor model radio was capable of theater-quality audio with clear, undistorted treble and broad accompaniment bass. It was awesome!

@@LilacMonarch After looking at the audio output, I can confirm there is no audio in the first place for at least some viewers. My headphones max out at a little over 36000hz, and my drivers can go well into the Mhz range, but the scope showed a nothing during that test no matter how much I raised or lowered the pitch.
My guess is that YT compression or the decompression is stripping out the audio, treating it as static.

@subito zx its barely above what adults can't hear, also pretty sure what you are talking about is tinnitus something you may not know you have, and ears are meant to hear cause that is well in our hearing range now it isn't that loud its not capable of damaging ear drums or stuff like that

If you lower a lot of the higher frequencies and boost the lower ones, but not too much, you can shoose between which one you want to hear, like green needle.

The sound from the Ben 10 toy is outputting more syllables then 'Brainstorm'. For me it is near impossible to hear the 'storm' in "Brainstorm". But it is easy to hear either 'green' or 'brain' at the start of the word, just followed up with 'needle', because the sound is a total of 3 syllables instead of 2.
