My Go 2 Tape Book keeping is one of my least favorite things to do, so I use My Reseller Genie, and it has taking a lot off my mind, nice peace of mind.
I like that concept too but I don't understand a couple things. Do you want to buy it from yourself at a low cost to make a profit or do you want to buy it from yourself on the high end to show little profit? Do you physically take $ out of bus bank acct that matches that amount for proof or is it a handwritten receipt that you use (since sole proprietor, you are the bus)?

You know something? I love watching your videos as I do my daily listing and you got me thinking today about mileage. I do deduct going to garage sales or thift shops, but I wasn't taking into effect my weekly trips to the post office. That's another avenue I will be seeking out next tax time. Every little bit helps, and mileage is the biggest deduction we have as resellers.
I just received my first order of the new My Go 2 Tape and I love it! Very glad they have improved the quality. As a person that has arthritis in my hands, I really appreciate how much easier it is to change out the rolls on my dispenser. This may seem trivial to some, but for me personally, it’s huge! Kevin, We keep track of all of our milage, receipts, etc. Anything that has to do with our ebay store is counted for! Great advice. We always like the tips you give.
My Go 2 Tape! I've been working on my own spreadsheet with functions similar to Reseller Genie. I'm also working with a friend on Automation for that and crosslisting on one platform. I hate paying for multiple subscriptions. Drives me nuts. I hate that everything nowadays is subscription based whether it's TV/movies, video games, food service or even regular software. Heck even Microsoft Office is subscription based, lol. I still use old Office to avoid subs. Awesome vid as always!!!

It is a must to cover for those new to reselling, My Tax lady has me keep track of my Cost of Goods and Sales which I also keep on my spreadsheet through out the year and give the total of what all My items cost and sold,
My go to tape. My husband and I have what I believe is a simple way to keep track of deductions. We do it “Monthly”. I keep track of cash sales but the amount I withdraw from my business account (as per Kevin’s suggestion). Mileage, storage unit, miscellaneous expenses. End of year pull necessary items off eBay. Give breakdown of house usage, internet, utilities and insurance to accountant. Works great, hope this helps someone.
I started doing my mom's taxes when I was 15 and you had to pick up the tax booklets at the post office. It's amazing how many write-offs there are if you dig into it. It's definitely worth the time to take all the deductions offered.. or have a professional do it for you. I'm a tax nerd and love it, but for those that don't, it's beneficial to get help like my reseller genie. Great content as always!
Please people don't try to do it yourself. There are many hidden deductions and credits that change from year to year that are easy to miss. At least buy good tax software, but don't rely on a "booklet".
@@MrMummble Many many years ago, you use to have to pick up tax table booklets at the post office with all the various charts and info you need. This was before they had all these great tax programs you can buy. I was referring to the past, not something you would do today :)

The hardest part i find is when the accountant wants a begininng and ending inventory balance..I just start with zero inventory every year even tho I still have ton of inventory but there is a cash method and an accrual method you can use. I prefer the cash method..sounds like you do the same. Much easier
Yep Cash method all the way! in 2018 as long as your a small business under $25 million IRS has allowed you to do cash method VERY SIMPLE easy and Straight forward the accrual method is JUST WAY TO TIME CONSUMING and frankly no benefit to it!

17:1 minutes in -- I am METICULOUS on my record keeping as well. I use my calendar app on my phone and will enter "yard sale" and press the location button to drop the address, and then when I jump back in the vehicle will add the amount spent and some minor details on items (for my recollection) following the words "yard sale" for example. If it's an estate sale, same thing. Yes, its an extra moment of my time and a bother but I have records. I of course, record my mileage. If I go to the post office for business, the bank for business, the laundry for business - and the supplies used for business - it is recorded in my calendar. Also, whenever I am "challenged" by a situation - I do THINK OF YOU! LOL! I am so blessed to not have the volume you encounter.

why didn't you? i have been reselling full time since 98' multiple platforms my own website also sell in person its the first thing you should learn how to do you taxes self employment tax (1099k) is the same tax that is taken out each paycheck if you worked a 9-5 brick and mortar job which is your SS and Medicare for retirement so by not doing taxes all these years you have been doing a disservice to yourself (same with everyone else that has not been doing there self employment tax making a mountain out of a mole hill with no reason for it)

What I wished I had learned was just how to take advantage of all the beneficial tax deductions from running a small business inside your home, not how to do taxes. I've had 40 years of filing my own tax returns. Cheers!
@@RealBoringFlips that is what i was referring too if you were already running a small business from your home that is the first thing you should learn is what tax write offs you can take for your small business as a online reseller or off line reseller (flea markets card shows ext.) again its business 101 what all resellers should know and learn in the begining can save them 10's of thousands of dollars for example say you gross $100k in sales and you purchase $50k in inventory you can take that as a self employment tax write off off your 1099k which brings your self employment tax liability (15.3%) to $50k instead of $100k and that is only inventory then you have all your other business expenses as a write off which brings that $50k even down more i have 8 storage units which cost me $25k per year again its all a self employment tax deduction
@ Although I’ve been selling on eBay for 25 yrs it wasn’t until about 5 yrs ago that I decided to run an actual part time reselling business with the idea of going full time at some point. I work a full time career job and will retire next year so I decided to use these few years before to work on my business model for maximum efficiency. My day job involves Industrial Process Improvement so I adopted some of those strategies along the way. I have a dedicated 20% of the living space in my home (apartment above the garage) for the business that reduces my tax burden by a ton. Not everyone can do that but if you can you need to take advantage of that. Not a lot of YT resellers discuss this part of reselling but you’re right, Business 101. Thanks.

My Go To Tape! This will be my first year filing taxes as a reseller so I am hoping to not have to pay much in taxes. I will be making some changes as of the first of the year as to how I keep track of my expense and re-doing my storage space and eliminating some items from my store that were poor choices when I was a beginner.
The most common type of professional garage seller here is not going to other garage sales to get items. They are getting their items at multiple party estate auctions which last 1-3 days, typically on the weekends, but also on weekdays. They can haul away pickup loads of items at one place for way cheaper prices than garage sales. They sell some of the items on eBay and other online venues, brick and mortar locations such as antique consignment stores and at garage sales. Some items can be flipped for a quick profit by taking them to a larger auctioneer in a larger city. Some dudes bypass the auction prices altogether and buy entire estates. A local dude has been doing this for 50+ years and sells items online, in antique stores and at garage sales.
1000% this absolutely correct! everyday all day! Yep i have been doing this for 26 years since 98' its called Diversification! if sellers are not doing this there fools!
So what can I deduct? Mileage is one...What about money spent on packing materials, tape, envelopes boxes? What about the money I spend on the items themselves when I thrift? What else?

One other thing you can write off is: Space you uses in your house, part of your Phone bill and part of your internet.
Just keep in mind it needs to be 100% business use area. So ‘common’ use areas can’t be used.
