Definitely worth checking out the music video as well, the studio version of this song is a bit different, and both versions are amazing in their own way.
Also you get the lyrics with the music video, it's such an emotional song really, it often makes me tear up.
IU writes a lot of songs that have to do with age and ageing, she uses her songs as a kind of diary, as bookmarks in her life, and is constantly reflecting on her life as she grows older. She has a song called "Twenty-Three" for example, which is about how confusing life is at that age and how she feels like she wants to be an adult but also wants to stay a kid at the same time.
"eight" was released when she was 28, and she reflects on leaving her youth behind as she gets to grow older, while some of her friends who have died young will never get to grow up like her, but will stay "forever young" 😢
