I used to live in Gole Market in 1984. Was a young boy. Every day( after the assassination for nearly 12 days) around 11 am a bunch of hoodlums from bajrang dal of the nearby hanuman temple used to come to our area to look for the few sikh families who lived there. We would hide them in our homes changing homes every couple of days. When the hoodlooms came to knock our door we would hide the whole family in almirahs in our house. Though we heard that some congress leaders led mobs in some areas my friends told me the goons who took part in actual violence were Bajrang dal guys from local hanuman temples. Though in other places it might have been different, I don't know I was too young and also being a minority was not allowed to go out too far. Those days in Delhi unemployed youth were given money for monthly all route pass in DTC 220 and one bottle of old monk every saturday to be part of bajrang dal. This was a big relief for unemployed youth or those who didn't get college admissions. An all route pass meant freedom of movement the alcohol was not necessary but was welcomed by some others sold it to their friends.

I used to live in Gole Market in 1984. Was a young boy.
Every day( after the assassination for nearly 12 days) around 11 am a bunch of hoodlums from bajrang dal of the nearby hanuman temple used to come to our area to look for the few sikh families who lived there. We would hide them in our homes changing homes every couple of days. When the hoodlooms came to knock our door we would hide the whole family in almirahs in our house.
Though we heard that some congress leaders led mobs in some areas my friends told me the goons who took part in actual violence were Bajrang dal guys from local hanuman temples. Though in other places it might have been different, I don't know I was too young and also being a minority was not allowed to go out too far.
Those days in Delhi unemployed youth were given money for monthly all route pass in DTC 220 and one bottle of old monk every saturday to be part of bajrang dal. This was a big relief for unemployed youth or those who didn't get college admissions. An all route pass meant freedom of movement the alcohol was not necessary but was welcomed by some others sold it to their friends.
