    Here's an idea: smaller fins that pop up out of the toy. Then, for the accuracy people, larger fin extensions that attach to the smaller fins via magnets.
    Perfect solution, and everyone is happy!

    Considering that we never got this in the 80's, I'm cool with either decision you choose for the hood fins. Keep up the awesome work!

      I'm guessing this is the exact reason why we never got the toy in the first place.

    Not only showing us the early stages and listening to early feedback is such a fresh approach in the collecting game. The honesty and willingness to discuss is as awesome as the product will become.

    Seems like a lot of solid work put in so far and I think I had a constant smile throughout the video that seemed to get brighter after each demonstration of the vehicle's action features.

    Seeing how the front wheel fold upwards and then inwards, is so great. That's how it's suppose to be. Thanks for taking the time and effort to making it like this. About the fins; the magnet solution isn't the best option, but the problem you're dealing with is clear. I have total faith in Ramen Toy that you'll making the right decision. Red Gull Wing is pre-ordered. P.S. After Red Gull Wing and Great White, please do Manta and Volcano! Ramen Toy can do these so much better then Kenner did.

    • @dumpsterfire7916

      What's wrong with the Manta? I thought it was pretty solid. Totally agree with the volcano.

      @@dumpsterfire7916 For me the Kenner-version wasn't that great. I would like to see a more cartoon accurate version: closed cabin with opening doors, the mechanism of bumper/thruster like in the cartoon. The rear wings will be a challenge, as the will be too long to fold underneath the car, like in the cartoon.

      Volcano was such a crushing disappointment as a kid.

    • @Elim1974
      @Elim1974 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The whole electronic mechanism was pointless and it made the design deviate too far from the cartoon Volcano.I hear a lot of people saying that they hope that Ramen Toy will do a new version of Switchblade or Rhino. I hope for Manta and Volcano @@BigFrankieC

    Personally I like the unfolding fins on the hood more than the magnet solution. It reminds me more of the kenner mask way of transforming the vehicle. Integrating this mechanism might have a trade off esthetically, but I think it can be worth to find a solution in the middle (lengths of front wheel fins vs hood fins). Cool that you share these stages of development, It made me think ;-). keep up the good work. Thanks for the video!

    Hey Ramen,
    I really like these products. Keep going at it. About the fins, my 2 cents? I'd rather have smaller fins that come out of the hood (MK1) then put them on top. Because thats how the toy would have worked anyway. Its about the transformations, not putting pieces somewhere to get the easthetics right. But thats just me.
    Hope you appreciate it.
    Also, START WORKING ON SOME VENOM!!!!!!! (Jackhammer & Switchblade for starters)

    Appreciate the video explanation and we have a better understanding of the limitations to the design now.
    As it is - most comments are leaning towards having smaller fins to allow for space within the hood for the pop up function to work. About having gaps - that's ok as long as it pops.
    If the final decision is to have magnetic fins part forming - I will likely ignore the fact that those 2 fins even existed in the first place - for my own purchase and display. If James Bond's Lotus didn't need those fins on the hood in submarine mode, why do the shark needs those. (That's of cos a topic worthy of a separate discussion altogether)

  • @agentonclogs

    The MK2 fins were fine, and noteworthly better than what KENNER would have done 👍
    I'd always go for springs over magnets. Always!

  • @Stygian360

    After having thought about it since this video was posted. It really feels like the roof fins should either pop up out of the hood via a release or could be manually lifted out of the hood by human hand. Although a magnetic feature would allow for greater toon accuracy it wouldn't be as ingenuitive or fun. Even if this means the fins aren't as tall and wouldn't cover as much of the hood/windshield. That's my two cents. Otherwise this prototype looks fantastic and I can't wait to see the more finished version.

  • @MichaelJShaffer
    @MichaelJShaffer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What if the fins were part of the hood (the yellow part) and instead of popping out as slits, they folded up from the hood 90° from horizontal to vertical? The hood already curves at the top and you could "cheat" its meeting to the windscreen - just a thought. Yes there would be indentations in the hood from where the fins fold up but at last it wouldn't be parts added on and they could be larger.
    May not work at all.

  • @grimmspectre9660
    @grimmspectre9660 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does it make any sense to have the rear fins pushed into the wheel hub when the vehicle is in "car" mode. And then, once you press the button to pop both wheels out, you just pull out the fins. That way, they can be longer and also hidden in "car" mode.
    Also, for the rear wheels and turbines, you should make the turbines only flip one way and then "lock" once fully turned 180 degrees. And then lock again once the wheel is back to "car" mode.
    What are your thoughts?
    Great design and I am a huge MASK (MAKINA) fan! I have been since I was a kid (80's kid).

  • @sherlocketek2289
    @sherlocketek2289 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the fins folded up from the hood, and hand a second part that folded out at the end by the windscreen to make the end of the fin that goes along the windscreen.
    I really would prefer NOT spring loaded, the hood looks perfect. Magnets are the best option, but if you are being slavish to integration, fold up part would be the only option.

    Awesome i like the fins popping out like that! Looks great can’t wait to add it next to red gullwing! ❤ i am hoping you find a way to have the fins on the hood clip in cus these will fly off when handling the toy.. maybe some sort of slide mechanism for the fins to clip in?

    • @agentonclogs

      MK2 front fin was fine. It's even better than what KENNER would have done 👍

  • @KingofPotatoPeople
    @KingofPotatoPeople ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Magnetic Hood fins are more palatable if they could be stored on the vehicle, like Stinger’s mortar had a space in the back. It can be a pain leaving these kind of accessories to one side. Personally I would settle for smaller side fins to accommodate the extending hood fins. But all options are bearable really as the fact that this toy is happening is amazing in itself.

    • @99livesarcade5
      @99livesarcade5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Ide settle for small ones that pop out. I see why he wants them larger but part of the allure is how everything was always attached to the cars and just popped out at the push of a button. Its why it was my favorite toy line as a kid

    The fins are the reason the toy never release
    Only thing i can think about is.
    That the fins go side ways on the hood .
    So the fins go side ways pop up .
    Oke not really like the movie .
    But i think that is the only way .
    You can make it side ways and move on a slider to the Window to .

  • @grimmspectre9660
    @grimmspectre9660 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not have the hood fins fold down and make up the hood in "car" mode? Though, they won't be fully extended to the windshield, but it doesn't really matter. I think the reason this vehicle wasn't originally made was due to the engineering design challenges of the hood fins. I think the fins (realistically) inhibit the visibility of the driver. But this isn't supposed to be realistic.
