Honestly a very nice summary, thank you. I quit 2 years ago and I'm happy to hear about all the positive changes & updates since then. Will be coming back with friends for the fresh start servers for sure.
Would you happen to have a guild or discord I could reach out to? I stopped playing the game but am liking the fact they are still improving it. I gave No Mans Sky a second chance after their facelift and am looking to give this one a chance as well.
I played this game when it launched I might have given it a try if I don't have to buy another pack to get mounts lol not worth it got scammed once not again game was ok back then just blunderbus with every update
As many have said, yes the hate comes from passionate players that have hundreds or thousand of hours and see the potential being squandered. If you’re new, you’ll fking love it. I’d do anything to go back and play for the first time again.
Yep, I remember the first open beta I participated a month before the release. When I spawned on the beach and started fighting and blocking + the overall atmosphere and graphics.. It was breathtaking
I just dropped 60$ on this game today and I think it's absolute garbage. Maybe it's because I have a working brain, that seems to be a rarity nowadays.
I liked it so much, I still look at every new world steam post but it just doesnt look like they are doing anything. most mmos are ruined for me by the top down click bs but newworld actually feels good to play. Its just a shame that they dont release any content ever.
IMO they decided shortly after the Brimstone Sands update (if not before) that their product needed an overhaul to remain viable. I think they have been working on this Aeternum update ever since. Revamps to the main story have been part of every major update for the last 2 years (Aeternum just adds cutscenes) It was all leading up to this. They haven't been focusing on maintaining players because this basically turned into Early Access in their eyes. IMO this was probably the right call although maybe they should have told the players. This is the last chance. I think they'll have a solid roadmap for the next year because they've said they'd be releasing it pretty close to the launch of Aeternum, and then it will all depend on how successful this relaunch goes. The veteran players are only hurting themselves when they complain about Aeternum. Even if the new story content doesn't matter to them it is needed for the long-term success of the game. I'm guessing Amazon is shooting to maintain between 3x-10x that 60k concurrent playerbase they were getting on content releases. Me and many of my friends are coming back for a 3rd "fresh start." I'm going to go slow and enjoy the story this time around instead of trying to be one of the first companies that buys a plot and enters the endgame. I'm sure I'll find a place when I'm ready to join that grind, might as well enjoy the journey.
Issue is that so many players complained about leveling and its shorted so hard. Now since mounts have been aded its even shorten to get from 1->65, and for most tryhards it will be probably single day experience maybe 2 days. And game itself still is in the same spot so it will take 1-2 months to grind everything in a game to the point where you no longer can get anything. All events, buffs and so on are irrelevant when you are already done. Like the first start if you got even stuff that allowed you to craft 550 it was hyped, now when you get 680-700 gear from even you just straight up trash it as it have no chance to be comarable with your gear anymore. There are no exitment from getting gear at that point, and leveling is so fast that you dont even wonder whats on it, unless you need certain node that is build defying. (Like i like to use spear sunder weken effect on weapon so as a group with under lvl we still can kill crazy stuff with 100%uptime of it)
Yeah, preparing for the expansion cash grab, slot and mount cash grab, season cash grab, and wait for it, preparing for the console cash grab, no wonder they haven't made a new OPR map, or anything worth continuing to play, like end game. The end game is broken, the war system, gold distribution and every other system tied into it like taxes, just makes for a giant can't fix it, it's not worth it, Lord of the Rings is coming, why bother situation. You can't blame them for opting to milk.
@@intronizator7713 I think the new raids will create a good gearing up experience. I'm sure there are a lot more raids in the pipeline to help end game. The game is genuinely fun and they desperately needed this restart.
@@JazzyChef what do you mean gear up experience? You just drop or buy blueprint from dungeon, go to station use your materials to make perfect 3stat good attribute 725 gs item with armor/resist split of your choice, there are no gearup experience when you straight up can craft perfect gear like nothing. Not a single drop would be funny to check unless you want to push and milk gold from new players with slower progresion that would pay even for row stat item with high gs. There are no rolls no randomness that make gearing and umprovments to gear exciting, like when you have if there would be even small option for upgrade that is random so you could still make perfect items in terms of overall stats, but there would be a competition with who got better rolls on. Gor example old popular bane nodes would roll angwhere from 11-14% then you still have a spoce for improvements. Now theres none. Single 'craft' button makes you unbeatable gear, at least untill next patch hits as we see gs goes up with all of them. And we started with 600 beeing max
@@Oryyytyep I have 3000 hours on the PC version. The game is a gem. If only they can shine the shit out its end game it would would the best MMO by a long shot with Action Combat.
@@nodeflection5827 Perhaps they won't otherwise people would nolife til' they die in front of their PCs lol nah I hope they will after this re-relaunch. It's my belief for now that they've had a update/content drought because of this new builds' development.
Sharding is a really interesting new feature as it has pretty big implications on resource gathering and the economy. It was always a bit frustrating when wanting to go out and farm to find your routes recently cleared or heavily farmed. As long as they limit how often you can switch, it should be a good feature but if people can just camp a small cluster of nodes on multiple shards, that'll be a problem
the problem with this is nodes are the least likely place to shard. i don’t believe it works like layers where there’s just always 8 layers in every location of the world, instead it only shards the world if there’s loads of players around, meaning nodes will likely never be sharded
The fact that they removed the ability to get BIS gear from expeditions and crafting and also making everything bind on pickup has killed the end game. If you have BIS gear, but manage to pickup a rare drop with awesome perks you should be able to sell it for a good chunk of gold... There is plenty to do when you reach 65, but its not rewarding when you have already grinded your gear.
Is the game still plagued with bots and RMT? I played a couple hundred hours at launch but haven’t been back. It could be an idea to combat RMT since you can’t just spend real money to max everything
@@jackbrasher8148I started playing again about a week ago, several hours a day, and I haven’t encountered any bots. There are definitely still out there, but significantly less.
Not really as end game top gear is from the pvp area and 10 man raid which in the future allows a better chase gear angle alongside release of new and bigger raids (I pray they dont release tiers to raids like heroic and mythic). Bind on pick up in New World is irrelevant IMO, top gear should NEVER be buyable, you wear it because you deserve to..!
Lol I swam exactly 1 time in the beta going from lv1-25 (I quit after I got the rewards, because I plan to return in October) and that was when I spawned in after the intro cutscene lol.
Yeah I guess even If people try teaming up in the new PVP zone, it'll be difficult NOT to hit your friend since the skills in the game are still action combat
I was so excited for Throne of liberty. started to dig in to the game. PvP focused. open world? -portals. ATLEAST some P2W.. maps LOOK big.. i installed New World and started playing that even before Aeternum comes.. :D Can't wait for the 15th
Have fun man. As a New World PC player this is one of those games that I will forever remember fondly when I first experienced it in 2021.. and that was with all the bugs and shortcomings that have now been fixed
@@gamezonereactions8388 Brother this game is a steal for the price for what you're getting, stop hating. I know the content has been too dry for PC players, but that is not relevant for newcomers on the console. They'll get plenty of hours out of this
They honestly should have given to expack free to all PC accounts, seeing as consoles are getting it for free as part of the game. They could have made good with the players that had bought it before with cash shop credits or whatever. It's a barrier to entry that they didn't require.
I would like that too, but this is not the case. Hello Games did not basically kick part of their community to the butt so they can please a potential new part of community. Hello Games have been making great game for everyone interested.
@@Scarecr0wn No they didn't. Idk if you remember but Sean Murray and Hello games were once the MOST hated devs in the internet. They hyped up EVERYONE to oblivion and lied about features, performance, scale, just about everything about the NMS. It was a huge mess he in turn was memed to oblivion. But the comeback after years was REAL. They showed passion and grit despite all the hate and threats. And now even you barely know about their nasty past cause of how respected they are now.
@@Oryyyt You don´t get what I am saying man. I am talking about the redemption ark. Once the hell after release settled down, HG simply went into work. And they worked and released updates for everyone and did not exclude some part of the community in order to please different one. The just kept working and pleasing everybody interested. Amazon basically said "fck off" to all PC players for like a year so they can get some sales on consoles. And to be clear, console release is good thing. Gaslighting and ignoring your core community that kept you afloat for over 3 years is not.
@@Scarecr0wn Ah ok. Sorry for misunderstanding. That part I sympathize with. Ngl I avoided this game like a plague back then. lol I'm sure it wasn't their intent and just wanted to update and port the game but they handled it extremely poorly that it left vets nearly if not irreversibly jaded and bitter. I'm planning to jump in as a casual on the 15 cause they seem to fixed some aspects that turned me off in the 1st place and there's just really nothing like it rn. It's obvious how much copium I and many others are huffing. lol
Agreed on the recommendation. The game is defo worth it if you never played it. There is at least 300 hours of fun to be had imo. For 60 bucks it's not a bad price to pay for a game with no p2w or a sub. But for anyone else, it's not worth it. You will just be disappointed.
I like the idea of an anonymous pvp zone if the point is to have a “free for all” zone. they could also have a faction v. faction v. faction zone like a tri-pvp zone like how DAoC used to be
Thanks for explaining what it is. I was super confused, as there's not a clear answer to that anywhere. Guess I'll buy Angry Earth when it's on sale next time, because the game really had it's fun parts and I hope there'll be some kind of active player base. We'll see!
I'm going to try fresh start i have a couple of lvl 60 , 625 chars , so fresh start will be a blast never touched rise of the angry earth so ill wait :) , glad you gonna cover it baggins
Wow this review is spot on! Really job well done. Anyways, some comments. I am a player with ~990 hours in the game, most of them on one character. I quit just before RotAE. It was hard for me to play at all, I logged like once a week to chop some wood, but the thought of having to pay once more killed it for me. I did return on the open beta and did have a blast, like a lot of people. I enjoyed the features that I've missed like mounts, and I also greatly appreciated vast improvements in performance. However... Now, you pretty much nailed on the head the thing with new vs returning player stuff. I'm an old school player. I'm very invested in my character. I'm so opposed to an idea that I have to make a new character and do it all over again. And what I find funny is that they've invested so much time into remaking new player experience and main story quest and they're still shit. I've played SWtOR on like 16 characters, because their MSQ was insanely awesome. And here, despite all the improvements AGS made I can't justify playing the second character. Because the story is still the same idiotic linear no choice grind. But I didn't quit on the game. I'm still on the fence. There's still hopium to be had.
Perfect timing for this to come across my feed. New World has sat in my library since launch. A friend bought it for me but I was unimpressed at launch. Now it looks much more enjoyable, and look at that. Oct 15 is in less than 2 hours. Installing now to give it a second chance.
What they should / could do when it comes to the new PvP Area, is an "Albion" like system. Where first, you don't see people's names and two, you can't simply walk there, you enter a portal that takes you to a random spawn in the area, and three, if they really wanted to make it harder and also, there was enough of a player base, you'd also spawn in different "layers" of the same area. That way it's too much of a hassle to actually team up with friends. In Albion, there's a PvP area called "The mists", and that's how it works. There, it's basically impossible to enter a "solo" mist and team up with friends willingly.
I stopped playing years ago, mainly because of all the bugs/exploits, but I appreciate your honest takes on the game and the updates. I almost checked out the free beta, but didn't find the time. I am pondering giving NW another chance, but I am not impressed with the devs and feel they have insulted pc players so idk. So few decent games out there, and I was so excited about NW and then so disappointed. Your recap at the end reminding viewers about all the improvements over the years was intriguing.
I disagree with the recommendation but I don't understand anyone who would be satisfied with a short term MMO play through. Everyone I know who quit early weren't satisfied with the time they want it out, they were furious the Devs fked the game. Do not recommend to anyone.
I think not allowing people to group up is just fine since you can attack your fellow friend on accident, meaning friendly fire is enabled (a fun system imo), and overall it wont be too much of a probelem as long as massive guilds dont try to gank people in the zone. Though one way they could do it is the shard system, where people your have on your friends list or have recently (within the last week) been on your friends list will exist in a seprate shard of that zone to not allow groups. Or just allow groups, and people to join your group. Its fun way to do extraction style content which is what this sounds like
Edit: I was wrong they do add two new endgames mode 10-raid and upscaled bosses. And a open world forced F4A pvp zone. No idea if it is enough. But it is something I might be totally off here, but is this the third time they changed the new player experience? Why not focus on keeping the players, and having endgame. The random mutation of the week is not great. And they really need something to captivate the current playerbase. Roguelike, buildcraft, pvp modes etc. There are tools out there, they just need to figure out what would match the game. I would like better talenttrees, and more abilities to pick from, but also to have active on the bar. Combat animations could also be a bit more crisp. The game got potential, it just miss something, other than players.
It's a one off purchase with no sub. Why would they try and retain players rather than make more sales? This is likely why they rebranded from MMORPG to ARPG, because MMO comes with an expecations of constant end game content drops whereas an ARPG is a game you typically play through, then stop playing. There is no financial incentive to retaining players with their current business model any more than a developer would try and retain players of a single player game.
the player base drops off due to the end game. the end game has no subscription so their cash comes from new players and store purchases both of those come from new players. makes sense. id personally throw a sub on it and fix the end game.
I spontaneously did try the beta solo, I was sick and bored. Surprisingly I did enjoy it quite a bit. I have played NW at launch but quite soon after reaching max level. A friend gifted me the expansion to get me to play again, but I did not play that much (to busy with work mostly). So as it will not cost me anything but some time, I do plan on giving this a try on a new server, not rushing to end game, enjoying the story. Just some relaxed gaming until I get bored with it.
I downloaded the beta on console not expecting much, and was hooked immediately. Im sure on PC it may not be that in depth but for console this is perfect.
For the PVP zone, Im less worried about players teaming to not kill each other and significantly more concerned about kill trading/currency farming. With end game drops being the rewards, whats to stop 2 guild members from just killing each other to farm doubloons?
@@braedenhorton It's my 4th most played steam game at 1621.6 hrs. The game is definitely not "good" but it leans to alright to a resulting waste of time if you're a PC vet. It peaks at 5k players now for a reason. Nevertheless, the leveling experience/exploration reels you in but then it falls flat on its face as you reach the endgame and are never given a reason to organically roam the wilds again. Entire zones pretty much wasted, unlike MMOs like Archeage who understood how to develop core systems that kept you going back (zombie-ing chest runs as "content" do not count..). On the other hand, PvPers fighting in the same poorly balanced BG for years and Wars being limited to 1% of the playerbase is insane. PvE, they released new dungeons just for them to die out after a few runs or developed that sandworm fight and never updated it to keep it relevant. The game is a mixed bag mess that has only seen the devs take 2 steps forward and 1.5 steps back. It would be "good" if the devs had any idea of the strong suits of their game and enhanced them ,but after 3 years they're still just throwing darts at a board. The game feels more like a live experiment for another project than a live service product aiming to captivate and hold a playerbase.
You broke that down really well Baggins and there were some things I was still unaware of despite watching numerous other YTers opinions. As a vet I've moved from 'absolutely not returning' to 'on the fence'
@@cptmittelstrahl Every game has bugs. You're probably one of those who take it way to seriously. "OMG MY PIXELS ARE TWITCHING THE GAME IS SOOO BAD". Some bugs don't really affect a MAJORITY of your gameplay as much as you think. It's just a you thing & other people who lack resiliency and complain for every little thing. Since release, I have only crashed twice, which took me a few mins of my time throughout the day to reboot the game. Other bugs were misc shit like graphics, etc ..
I got it for $30 back when it first came out, put in 800 hours tons of fun, took a 3 year break and now will be buying it on console Xbox X to play console servers only with my friends on console.
So if I understood it correctly, if you want to upgrade artifact gear you need an item that only drops in the pvp zone... and pve only players are left with what? A middle finger? Not to say the limited ways you mentioned to get 725 gear and they not allowing us to upgrade current stuff to that GS. I mean, we give them a chance to make things right and they still mess with it... 🤦♂ AGS: "We want you to play for fun!" Yeah, but trying to get the best gear in the game, whether you're a tryhard, pvp player or just a casual, IS ALSO playing for fun AGS, ffs!
@@Zykosis and by definition PvE ONLY players are obligated to do PvP to upgrade their PvE stuff? I don't think so, that's not right... You can get PvP gear with PvP specific perks with the PvP track, which I think is where such players should focus if they want to just PvP. If they also want to PvE, then they go do PvE, it's that simple.
This actually sounds pretty awesome. My biggest issues with the game were dead servers and horrible performance in town. Which seem to be both fixed now.
Well, you either a casual so it helps because you were bad anyway, or you are good but in that case, the aimlock makes you worse and you won't use it. What's the problem then? Honestly. You decide by a dumb video where bot level players are running in close range without fighting and that does the justice? I f. up anyone still if they use aimlock or not. The first player that isn't a bot going to put you in the dirt and the only reason you may hit them once or twice will be the stamina and at the end they still gonna be on full health.
@@moo8698 Actually a good point. Aim lock doesn't target the head does it? Only body shots for ranged. Aim lock does take a bit of fun out of the melee combat but I suppose it wouldn't make that much of a difference anyway
@@moo8698 if I wanted to play another tab target MMO, there are way better options out there than NW, with far superior amounts of content and end-game.

Great video as always. For me as an OG player who quit like 10 months ago, it feels like this: this is the 1.0 release version. The last three years were early access like many of us said from the beginning. I won't start playing again though. Perhaps some day if I have more time.
I think I’ll pass. I already had an issue where I left for a while and when I returned, all of my cosmetic purchases and characters were wiped. Customer service, even given all the information they asked for, were unable to retrieve them. Add in the aim ot and I really have no interest in returning.
I've always wanted to get into this game. But it completely slipped my mind over the past couple of years. I'll definitely keep an eye on it this month. I'd really like to play a good action RPG and make a spear build!
The character creation has really ugly presets. When I first played the game last year, I was quite amazed with its graphics, but after playing Throne and Liberty and Black Desert, I can no longer say so. I wish Amazon would stop making the characters ugly and allow us to create the characters we like to see.
For all the bad AGS has done in the last year and I'm not really to optimistic for post-launch; it was nice to see all the new players from console and PC as well asking questions and having a sense of community running around and doing PvP. I will make a new character for the launch and to experience the leveling again, but I just can't really see anything going anywhere with how AGS have mishandled the current version of the game in the last year.
Great video, I think your take is fair about this update. However as for my experience in New World, I would say that the early struggle we had (I don't include the dupes and exploits) and the game being developed with big changes as we were playing is part of the fun I had in NW. I.e the early wars in Voidbent, the expertise grind in Elite zones, the struggle to get a tradeskill to max lvl making max lvl people relevant, etc. It feels like this launch will lack of flavor for the new audience, the game is much more casual now. NW always suffered of a lack of rewards but back then the sweat you pull in to get your full Voidbent set or your expertise close enough to 600 so you start using your dungeon orbs to get your Weaponmaster's Chosen (Great Axe) or Fury (warhammer) felt rewarding. There is definitely more to do nowadays, especially as a new player, but it feels like it will lack flavor. Also worth mentioning the game graphics were really good for a MMORPG on launch but we can see how outdated they start to be even though the game is still looking good.
Am I the only one who actually liked that you couldn't swim ? It's realistic. You fall in full armor into the water, you die. It also forces you to uses geography in order to find ways to travel and cross rivers. I thought it was interesting
Looking forward to the release but you've brought up a good point about the end game rewards being raid and the new pvp section. It kind of cancels out the previous gear if you want to get the best gear as some people may skip others parts. Im excited to start playing in October! Also my thoughts for the aim lock is that for range players its not exactly the best for them as the target is at the main point of the body. Where really you should be aiming for the head. Plus if the enemy player is running you do need to aim it slightly ahead of them to actually get a hit. The aim lock still isnt great anyway but just an observation.
Also, as a fire staff user, you still benefit by not using it as you can aim abilities better for hitting multiple targets, whereas lock on will limit the aoe to only the most clumped players
As a former PC player...the lack of any dev response about BOTS, RMT, and mass player bans makes this a non-starter...for anyone. Why would anyone invest time in an MMO only to be banned for ANYTHING, or have to compete with bots for resources. Save your money...this is more slop.
Opening dedicated Xbox and PS5 servers is actually such a poor choice and they did not learn from their last mistake. The player base has already dropped to all time low, because of that same problem previously, they keep doing world mergers in the past, in hopes that low population servers can mix with a few low pop to make it a high pop, and all low pop servers then lose their territory because they are forced to join a new server and follow their territory. Amazon really wanna squeeze their last effort from having to grab money from players before it dies down, it used to be an 18 dollars game, now when the game is dying, they try to relaunch it as a new game but in reality is just to open up to console platforms, and the price tag is now 67 dollars. So, IMO, i actually see this game going back to all time low pop in just a year's time.
Sincerely hope that this extra player base gives AGS the budget they need to really kick this game into high gear. This game is magical for at least 300 hours, I hope they can find a way to make sticking with the game for even longer worth the time. I don't expect them to achieve this at all, it'll be incredibly hard. I love being in this game's world tho so reasons to come back are always exciting
Great video as always Baggins. Appreciate it. My only take is I bought and played New World on release in 2021. I was under the impression that I was playing a fleshed out game. Then systems, crafting, character level and all of these things started to change over time which I thought was great. Most of the changes seemed great and in the right direction. When I heard they were rebranding essentially and adding it to console... my first thought was "why do I feel like I've been a lab rat for New World for these 400 hours I've spent on the game?" and that came from a place of having to deal with all of these terrible bugs, systems (like the watermark system) and so on and so forth. It made me feel like amazons plan all along was to push it to console and in doing so made the PC players be the test dummies unknowingly and then the console players would get the actual good version of New World... and that didn't feel good to me. Might be a childish take but, I think that's complete bullshit. The New World team has consistently over 3 years put a bad taste in my mouth, time and time again. Part of me wants to come back and try it, but, I know at the end of the day the game has a bottomless endgame and is pretty underwhelming once you get to that point. Hopefully they continue to improve and make the game more fun and enjoyable to play in the sense of longevity.
Played at launch and just started fresh server a few years between playing NW. Qol, content, mounts and more upgrades since launch plus cross-play for the console bros Feels nice to start fresh on a mostly complete and lively MMO. If your not a needy brat, always waiting for that perfect game, it's worth a go if you enjoy mmo and prefer this combat system over traditional mmo combat.
2 things that still haven't been addressed that prevent me from returning in spite of a lot of seemingly "good" changes: 1.) Chest runs are stupid and should never be a progression path. It's mind-numbing and not fun. Chest runs should never be one of the most efficient means of progress or material collecting. Period. 2.) Chat still, somehow, to this day, sucks absolute balls. There are bugs with the chat system that I had at launch. It's INSANE. Nothing screams "single player first, MMO second" like having such a terrible chat system. Mind-bogglingly bad and buggy. AGS NEEDS to fix this, it's embarrassing!
it seems tha alot of people are enjoying runs my friend , i remember catching trains also with friends and company members , sometimes pvp on , i think its the way you view the runs, for me is something that brings the ingame community together and playing with dumb friends that want to solo the run xD
@@parisstylianou9012 Just because a lot of people are doing them doesn't mean they're fun. Playing with other people inherently tends to enhance an experience - you could play a bad game with friends and still have a good time. It makes a huge difference. The process itself of getting rewarded for doing extremely mundane actions, and that reward being often the most efficient, is the problem to me. Why organize groups or seek out interesting content when you can just mindlessly follow 100 other players around just hitting E to get your GS updates? Not saying they should remove the chests, but they definitely need to be less rewarding, and have a drop cap that is lower than it currently is for gear in general, and boost rewards for doing real content to compensate. Chests should be a nice bonus from doing content, not the content itself.
@@parisstylianou9012 Yea I enjoyed the big chest runs. Especially early on when it was all new. That shit was so crazy seeing hundreds of players appear from over a hill as a noob 🤣 It does become mindnumbing after a while tho, but at that point just don't do it or do it when you feel like it ez clap. It shouldn't be the best way of progressing tho.
@@TheGump007 "If you don't like it, don't do it" doesn't really work in an MMO setting man. It's basically telling someone to waste time and choose to fall behind while everyone else does something mindnumbingly easy and gets more out of it. The more difficult the content, the better the rewards - that's how it always should be in an MMO. If you put in the time to get a group together, run some dungeons, and get jack crap out of it while you know you could have just ran chest circuits in a train for half the time....that just feels bad dude.
Throne and liberty seems pretty bad. After trying it the game feels full of bad ideas. like leveling weapons and the. Wanting to switch is basically impossible. And they have world events that are pvp zones too so no shock max level people gank lower level people for no reason but to feel better about their lonely lifestyles Diablo 4 and path of exile are very different styles of game imo
Seems like "most" of the hate towards the game is coming from people who've put in literally hundreds and hundreds of hours into the game 😂 Like, a game doesn't suck if you've played it for hundreds/thousands of hours. I don't get it.
Every single player in my old guilds will not go back if they have auto lock in the game. I will go back if its removed but if they keep it in the game I wont even look at it.
They will most likely remove it from PvP where it just won't lock onto enemy players but will everything else. Also keep in mind, this game is made for NEW players, and with console players in mind as well. If they lose 100 PC players but gain 1000 console players with the lock aim, they're going to keep it in whatever capacity to retain those players.
Why? That's the only thing bringing me and my guild back is the Target lock for PVP. We are a PVP guild and New Worlds PVP is far too frustrating and unrewarding to play without the Target lock.
It is interesting how varied the player base is for MMOs. For me, the ONLY things I care about are A. controller support, and B. STORY. Folks are saying that the dialogue was a waste of resources, when I think the PvP is a waste of resources, and they should put everything into storytelling. Just goes to show that MMOs pull from a lot of backgrounds and perspectives.
Is there even anything new? lol guys get over it, they slapped a new name and bring it to consoles. There’s no major overhaul it’s still the same shit but with new players
Great video! Was about to buy the latest DLC if it weren't for the part of the PvP aim lock-in. This completely takes out the action skill based combat aspect of the game, which made the game appealing in the first place. Thanks for the clarification - AGS aim-lock nailed the game's coffin with this one.
Imo everything looks good except the aim lock feature. If this goes through as it stands everything they did right will be negated and I will not return. GG AGS, ball is in your court.
If you're a PC player your opinion is irrelevant. Sorry but that's just the reality of the situation. AGS is courting console players, they don't care if a PC player decides to boycott their game because of a console feature because before the beta, PC was averaging 3K concurrent. The beta had over 25K concurrent with a majority of them being console players. The ball isn't in AGS' court, the ball's in console players' hands, and PC players are on the bench. Most just don't realize it yet.
@@Athasin and you think 25k concurrent in a beta is alot? PC had almost a million first week and they still did sh*t, 25k is nothing lol ags is just doing bad changes and the game will be forever dead

The main reason I played despite the lack of content was because I really enjoyed the original combat system, I loved it. I had 200+ hours in the game before release, 2000+ hours after release. Even so, after a long argument with myself, I quit the game. I was looking forward to this update to see what changes there would be regarding the problems I was having. The game's combat system goes in stark contrast to what I personally really liked, for the sake of console gamers. The change in the loot system is only "icing on the cake". In my eyes, this is more of a step towards a WoW gaming experience than a further development of the New World gaming experience. Unfortunately, these two things are already far enough to reassure me that I don't have to go back to playing. If I want to play with a tab-target combat system, with time-gated gear acquisition, then I would play a different game, which is originally designed for this. This does not mean that I think the game is bad. I'm sure new players will enjoy it very much. It just means, as bitter as it is, that the game's target audience isn't me and similar players anymore.
Here's 1 issue that i've found. When you spawn on either one of starting locations, and you wish to join your friend to quest together in other (e.g Spawned in Windsward and wish to quest in Monarch's), you will not be able to. I have tried on 3 characters and didin't work any of the attempts - i was lucky althou to spawn the third time in Windsward but nontheless, it's really dumb and i hope it's gonna be fixed like it's working in Original game right now. But all together, i think im gonna slow level to lv65 and take my time this time of playing, chill with friend and add few thousands more of hours on top of few thousands i already have.
Appreciate the review. However, I do think we should hold them to higher standards and never settle for less. I don't like the idea that a game is "worth" the money you spend on it based off how many hours you get to play it. I look for quality and not quantity, and after 3 years of disappointment I'm not sure why anybody would wanna play this unless you are entirely new to the game or if you left pretty early on.
I feel as though they believe cut scenes is “adding content”. I really wish we had the ability to skip all cutscenes automatically. I struggle with the way we have to interact with NPCs now.
I like it, I don’t care too much for the social aspect of MMOs anymore, I just want to play my game my way but yet still be around other people/players and if I feel like it I can do a five or ten man. I think that’s how MMOs should be,like a big RPG with others players running around as well.
I really hope this new release brings the game back to life. After it died on PC me and all my friends quit, I kind of wish they would just delete the old servers though and make everyone start on new ones. The old servers are so dead its kind of a waste of resources and time keeping the old servers up in my opinion.
It is as if AGS is _completely_ *clueless about co-op QoL.* :-/ God help you if you want to play with your buddies and they start on opposite sides of the island. SAD.

@@vasilvasilev3258 I can attest to this. Some of my best memories in gaming were during that first month of New World.

@@frlouis3266 How do you have a working brain if you dropped $60 on a garbage?
I liked it so much, I still look at every new world steam post but it just doesnt look like they are doing anything. most mmos are ruined for me by the top down click bs but newworld actually feels good to play. Its just a shame that they dont release any content ever.
IMO they decided shortly after the Brimstone Sands update (if not before) that their product needed an overhaul to remain viable. I think they have been working on this Aeternum update ever since. Revamps to the main story have been part of every major update for the last 2 years (Aeternum just adds cutscenes)
It was all leading up to this.

New World is the best game for letting your expectations down. Repeatedly.

But it is something
I might be totally off here, but is this the third time they changed the new player experience?
Why not focus on keeping the players, and having endgame.
The random mutation of the week is not great.
And they really need something to captivate the current playerbase.
Roguelike, buildcraft, pvp modes etc. There are tools out there, they just need to figure out what would match the game.
I would like better talenttrees, and more abilities to pick from, but also to have active on the bar.
Combat animations could also be a bit more crisp.
The game got potential, it just miss something, other than players.
Easier to fool new players than trying to fool existing players yet again
It's a one off purchase with no sub. Why would they try and retain players rather than make more sales? This is likely why they rebranded from MMORPG to ARPG, because MMO comes with an expecations of constant end game content drops whereas an ARPG is a game you typically play through, then stop playing. There is no financial incentive to retaining players with their current business model any more than a developer would try and retain players of a single player game.
Oh did they rebrand it? Yeah well retain players would also make more sales imo. But I get what you are saying@@Jallenbah

Thank you so much for this video. You literally answered every single question I had about aeternum.
These new servers will be merged into 1 once the player base drops. Which it always does.
Great video as always. For me as an OG player who quit like 10 months ago, it feels like this: this is the 1.0 release version. The last three years were early access like many of us said from the beginning. I won't start playing again though. Perhaps some day if I have more time.
thanks for the vid! i am out... 60 € for a 3 year old game is a lot to ask in my eyes. Honestly this thing should be free 2 play.
I’m excited! I played a ton at launch and loved it. I will be starting on a fresh server but I can’t decide if I want to play on PC or my PS5.
Imagine if new world was like this at launch.
I don’t think much would change in terms of drop off for the player base .. the end game PvP is still lacking.. and same with pve
What in beta, it was in alpha, much worse.
Auto lock in PvP? Endless combat exploits going unfixed? Same opr map as close to original release?
Great video Baggins. Always appreciate your New World coverage.
I think I’ll pass.
I already had an issue where I left for a while and when I returned, all of my cosmetic purchases and characters were wiped. Customer service, even given all the information they asked for, were unable to retrieve them.
Add in the aim ot and I really have no interest in returning.
No cosmetics are account wide
@@nicolasmeunier6915 Well, I purchased a few and used them on multiple characters. Maybe check your facts? As well as the twitch drops. So…
@@Johnggernaut that's what you get when you support bad games ! why do you even bought shit from the shop ?
@@cptmittelstrahl I have plenty of disposable income lol
The game wasn't necessarily bad. Still isn't. I just wasn't the target audience for it.
Teaming is how wars work (with some exceptions "sometimes"), wouldn't be surprised if it's how the PVP zone works too.
KEY WORD "LAST YEAR" lol
@@happyface3937 key word "IN THE last year"
last three years*
sorry if OP confused anyone
Okay, but if you were naked you still couldn't swim😮
Looking forward to the release but you've brought up a good point about the end game rewards being raid and the new pvp section. It kind of cancels out the previous gear if you want to get the best gear as some people may skip others parts.
Im excited to start playing in October!
Also my thoughts for the aim lock is that for range players its not exactly the best for them as the target is at the main point of the body. Where really you should be aiming for the head. Plus if the enemy player is running you do need to aim it slightly ahead of them to actually get a hit. The aim lock still isnt great anyway but just an observation.
I was against the aim lock at first but since they won’t ban actual aim bots may as well give it to everyone
This.
Cross play with no cross save is a freaking joke
How many people actually use that feature? I didn't know it was something people actually cared about tbh
really well summarized! great video baggins :)
only roadmap will tell if ill comeback to the game for more than a week or two or leave it be until real content will be added
if amazon shits the bed again there wont be a future of this game, they went down to 4 digit players TOTAL before the update
Hopefully they continue to improve and make the game more fun and enjoyable to play in the sense of longevity.
caaaash graaaaaaab
Played at launch and just started fresh server a few years between playing NW.
Qol, content, mounts and more upgrades since launch plus cross-play for the console bros
Feels nice to start fresh on a mostly complete and lively MMO.
If your not a needy brat, always waiting for that perfect game, it's worth a go if you enjoy mmo and prefer this combat system over traditional mmo combat.
2 things that still haven't been addressed that prevent me from returning in spite of a lot of seemingly "good" changes:
1.) Chest runs are stupid and should never be a progression path.
Then do solo chest runs or in a small group with PvP on.
Throne and liberty releases on octobet 1st. Diablo 4 expansion the week after. PoE 2 on november 15th. All yours guys
Throne and liberty seems pretty bad. After trying it the game feels full of bad ideas. like leveling weapons and the. Wanting to switch is basically impossible. And they have world events that are pvp zones too so no shock max level people gank lower level people for no reason but to feel better about their lonely lifestyles
Diablo 4 and path of exile are very different styles of game imo
@@usrevenge true, i ended up uninstalling after 7 hours
Seems like "most" of the hate towards the game is coming from people who've put in literally hundreds and hundreds of hours into the game 😂
Like, a game doesn't suck if you've played it for hundreds/thousands of hours. I don't get it.
Thats cause it takes that long to be able to formulate and educated evaluation of the game. 20 hours in it aint gonna say crap about it
seeing u at 125k is crazy i remember watching u for the culling vids a looong time ago😂
Every single player in my old guilds will not go back if they have auto lock in the game. I will go back if its removed but if they keep it in the game I wont even look at it.
This is for pvp only ofc
After playing 1500+ hours, I can say the game was a waste of 60dollars
xD
I can never tell if these comments are satire or not.
@@SycoPlaysThere was obviously some enjoyment if you played 1500hours.

Is there even anything new? lol guys get over it, they slapped a new name and bring it to consoles. There’s no major overhaul it’s still the same shit but with new players
Thanks, I really liked this game at launch. I barely played only level 30 or so. I am definitely going to give it another go.
This Aimbot thingy -> they are just braindead
As a console new player this will be great!! Can't wait to play
PC had almost a million first week and they still did sh*t, 25k is nothing lol

Auto aim in PvP 😢😢😢
I am pumped! I had to sell my PC a while back and stop playing New World. Now I’m back in with my Rapier/Musket!
I just wish they had included the flail in one of the archetypes/"classes" you could pick from the beginning.
Well-reasoned and balanced coverage. I'm glad vets are still giving their thoughts on the game, in spite of AGS seeming to close their ears.
Looks great to get back.
I love the tab targeting. Will wait to see reviews of the gameplay before reinstalling
I started on Pc on launch and I took a time over with NW. I was really confused with this new update, thanks for the explanation!
I haven't played NW in 8 months due to real world issues. I can't wait to get back into the game.
Been watching baggins since his culling vids and hes really changed
I really hope this new release brings the game back to life. After it died on PC me and all my friends quit, I kind of wish they would just delete the old servers though and make everyone start on new ones. The old servers are so dead its kind of a waste of resources and time keeping the old servers up in my opinion.
The missing feature i want the most is seeing party players custom waypoint in my compas -- It's ridiculous to me that I still can't see them
It is as if AGS is _completely_ *clueless about co-op QoL.* :-/
God help you if you want to play with your buddies and they start on opposite sides of the island. SAD.
