I love that you’ve taken one product and made multiple videos about it. I hate that “big” TH-camrs only review an item once then we never see or hear about that item ever again. It takes the credibility away when it seems like they prioritize being the first to release a video for views rather than actually helping us consumers get real world and useful information
Tamara, you are the only TH-camr doing consistent, real-world tests of this camera! It's great to see someone actually out and about walking around with this camera (which is how probably 80% of people will use this camera anyway). I got the Action 2 a few days ago and I love mine. So I enjoy seeing how you use yours in everyday life!
Thanks, Phillip. I just feel like you'll never get a true sense for something unless you actually use it, it's why I like going out, playing around and seeing how something performs during proper usage.
Your videos are brilliant! Helps me a lot as a blogger. I’d love to hear your perspective of the Pocket 2 vs Action 2. But please keep the videos coming. And all the best with the pregnancy. Hope you and the baby are well and healthy 🙂
I just found your channel and the Action 2 videos are awesome! I was put off by some of the other reviews but you have definitely changed my mind. Thanks for actually doing a proper, considered review of the camera, finally something actually worth watching!!
Thanks! 😃 I'm glad you've found the videos helpful. My full review based on all the test I did will be out tomorrow, and then a comparison between the Action 2 and HERO10 the day after, so do check those videos out if you're still considering it, might help you decide 😊
While I would 100% agree 4K120 is not a normal thing to do indoors long time 4K 30 is and i am seeing results of less that 5 minutes at 19c. However it’s not as simple as that as once it’s overheated your then down to less 3 minutes when you try to record again. It’s unfair to say people stirring the pot on an unrealistic use case because no one said it’s not for use indoors. This is as much about the fact that no one said you could get issues in a static environment. This camera is sold as an premium product where it can be used both indoors, outdoors and underwater. DJIs own webpage shows it recording indoors yet it still does not say it may overheat in any mode other than 4K120. For instance many of us use these in cars for filming, in places where it’s still and no airflow yet it’s still in an environment where a normal camera is not likely to be used. Some may assume action cameras are only for 1-3 minute clips but that’s not the case for everyone. I am privileged to own a number of cameras like the GH5,G9, S5, A6400 and others and I am well aware of that they can overheat, if your into cameras you would have seen the Canon R5 issues as well. We know cameras overheat and even the GoPro does but the issues here is reviews and DJI completely hid this from us and when many of us who bought them received them were shocked to find this limitation. If we had been told upfront then OK we could have made out purchasing decision’s based on that information. However we were not. In fact DJI changed it website after many of us received the camera to say it could overheat in 4k120. There is no question walking outdoors in U.K later summer early winter it’s not going to overheat however tests done in 19c is still much cooler than other places will get. If fine for me on a freezing beach in wales but how is it going to perform in AU or other places. More than the overheating the workflow is also quite painful and it should not be overlooked how much damage could be caused to the battery in the these temperatures too. If your someone that is just going to use it out doors or in water ect then you will be fine. If your just doing 1-3 minute clips you will be good. However it does not change the fact many of us were misled on how this product could be used. The “your holding it wrong” argument is unfair to throw at people as no one said how you should be doing it. I expect to be able to do what I can with every other action camera I own with it unless it’s specifically stated otherwise. Finally I will add congrats on your great channel and amazing content, really great work. Just don’t fall into the trap that manufactures can’t get things wrong. I have deal with DJI for a very long time and they make some amazing products however they also should be held to account when they behave in a way that’s not good for users of their products. Sponsored reviews and early looks don’t tell people the full truth sadly and this leads to disappointment when people find things they were not expecting. Please salty safe and keep up the fantastic work.
I think you made some very valid points regarding real world use of the camera. Appreciate you testing. I will wait for your verdict as I would like to upgrade my Go-Pro.
Had the Action 2 for a bit over a month now. I did what I would deem an unrealistic test and set it up with a power bank, 4k 30fps (what I'd normally shoot fishing or traveling - minus when I'd crank the FPS for that short clip) and let it run for a few hours. I stopped it after 3 hours and 15 minutes and it was warm but I could still put my hand around the camera fine. Point being, I stopped it... it didn't over heat. For me being able to loop record for hours on end for fishing is important. I don't need 4k 60-120fps for my situation, so for me it works great. I do use the SmallRig cage that goes around the whole unit and it claims to help with the heat dissipation (they claim 40% better). I don't know how much it helps but the cage does get warm too, so I have to imagine that it does help in some capacity. Either way, I figure if I had it sitting on a floor with a power bank for 3+ hours... that out on the kayak I wouldn't have any issues with 4k30fps and overheating. (Sorry for long winded comment) Thank you for the great videos!
Wow that's a long time shooting, but good to know it didn't overheat on you. Yeah, I'm not sure if the case actually makes a difference but I still haven't had overheating issues so it's difficult to know.
Agree! who wants to shoot 4k120p for hours, that's crazy. There is no problem at all if the user brings the camera outside and goes around. But anyway, I think overheating could happen if the environment is too hot, especially in the summer.
Thanks. Maybe I should consider this camera after all. I'm most worried about the overheating issue when recording without the battery module. Cheers young lady, another great video :-)
No problem, you're welcome. This test was without the module attached, so I was just recording straight to the camera. What sort of videos do you shoot?
@@TamaraGabrielUK Ahh...OK. Sorry, missed that ;-) I usually do 4K 50 fps videos. Around 5-8 minutes. Hang gliding, so there should be some cooling at least. 100 fps would also be nice to do. Maybe a great helmet cam ?
Yeah, I think it would be great as a helmet cam. Once I can ride my motorbike again (probably next year summer now) I'll definitely be testing it out on my helmet.

Great call out on real word use. One thing I noticed is that it does get pretty hot while charging, but I record in 4K 24 so I don’t see issues with over heating. I also hear that running the camera without the extra screen or battery could cause it to over heat quicker.
Excellent test Tamara, while I think the Action 2 is slightly better than the pocket 2, I think I will go for the pocket 2 mainly for travelling and vlogging than for action shots.

whats really the benefit of 120fps....esp when the main upload platform is TH-cam...capped to 60fps...
Slowing the footage down. You would add it to your 24fps, 25fps or 30fps timeline and slow it down, so it is output at 24fps, 25fps or 30fps.
