The mountains slowly but surely getting new life! Thanks for giving us a glimpse of what we'd never otherwise get to see.

We have been twice to the Smoky's this year. Once in April. Several of the Mt. Laurel Chalets we had stayed in over the years had burned. I was glad to see that their office didn't burn but the building right before theirs did. We have stayed at their chalets for years now - only theirs. Maybe there will be some new ones built back. They lost quite a few. Or maybe the owners will sell their lots. Lots of memories. I have a couple of their maps they give you of all their chalets when you check it - so I will have that and all their names. I think they lost over 20 chalets where the fire was. We drove over there and it was very sad - but it could have been a lot worse!!! Deer View Trail chalet burned and we had stayed there twice - it has one of the BEST VIEWS and was back a driveway by itself and private. Was there for my youngest granddaughter's birthday a few years back. I got pictures : ) I am sure they will build back with that location!!! We have taken our children and our grandchildren over the years. They - Mt. Laurel's Chalet Office-gave me a stuffed bear for my birthday which was April 3rd - I could have had a T-Shirt but I picked that cute bear : ) I am 62 and my husband is 64 and we have been going to the Smokies for over 30 years and my husband got to once when he was a kid. We stayed at a chalet called Heavenly Vision they had just acquired from another company. I saw your video going down the mountain in the fire and I think it is the video that I watched right after the fire last year too. I saw one too by a Mexican guy who had been staying at the Sydney James downtown and I was like quit filming and get out of town while you can. I watched that the night of the fire - he had just posted it. I think millions of people must have been praying!!!! I think all the prayers saved most of downtown Gatlinburg 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 And one time we stayed at the Sydney James - it was a few years back. We stayed at a different place 3 different nights in a row. The only time we did that. I love the Smokies and Gatlinburg and Cades Cove!!! Sometimes we go over the Mountain to Cherokee, NC. Glad you all are alive!!!! Very sad for the ones who didn't make it!!!! Thank God everything didn't burn and there are still jobs and tourism for the people who live and work there.

what a beautiful area.. what kind of injuries did your truck take during evacuation. how hot did it get in there..

A small dent and minor scratches. And a couple of melted sensors on the transmission. And a fender flare that was ripped off by the tree. A little bit of paint discoloration from the heat. The heat was very hot some fires burned at over 2500 deg it felt like 100deg or more in the truck going down and threw the fires.

thats amazing. you must have felt like you were going to die? The video looked like a real life nightmare. Im really surprised the tires didnt melt and i guess things like turning on the vents or a/c wouldnt work. It had to have been hotter than 100 degrees in your truck.. i bet it was going up to 110 When did you decide to evacuate? it looks like the media didnt prompt you. I sort of lived a similar situation here with a flood and we had to evacuate rapidly.

Michael was praying real hard during the escape video. He was *definitely* scared of dying in that inferno.
