    As Mr Perry himself said, not having suitable male role models is a big part of the problems and questions associated with masculinity these days. It's good to question things but a lot of young men these days are still trying to figure out the basics by themselves or getting bad information from so called 'role models' who perhaps aren't best suited to be such, including their peers, who are probably as confused as they are.

    Masculinity is awesome:
    Courage
    Truth
    Honour
    Fidelity
    Discipline
    Kinship
    Loyalty
    Self Reliance
    Industriousness
    Perseverance

      nobody has all of those; very few have half of the list; most have 1 or 2. The same is true of women, but the prevalence differs.

      Dick Hamilton some people have all of those at once, or none at all, or different traits at different times and it's not just men, you can have masculine females. Being against the entire concept if masculinity is a daft position.

      Kranku -- 'being against..." . And who said that? I'll give you a tip,
      mate - try not to read your own prejudgement into what someone else
      wrote. Read only what is actually there in front of you. Learn to think.

      insta quotes are awesome:
      generic
      redundant
      safe
      useless
      cliche
      devoid of nuance
      provide some false sense of inspiration to my 13 year old cousin

    Read his book, it's got nothing to do with the clothes, he's using it as an example.

    Masculinity is a trait that has been tens if not hundreds of thousands of years evolving, and is STILL a valuable trait. It's simply when it becomes too assertive that it is problematic. I'm not sure that Perry should be blaming othe world's ills on masulinty though. That's like blaming all pregnancy deaths on women. Men's masulinity is what drives them to achieve. The fact that they are disproportionately represented in the halls of power makes it inevitable that they will be the ones committing most of the atrocities. Look at the woman soldier in Iraq - women are just as capable as men of committing atrocities when they are will to place themselves in the same danger situations.

    I'd think that masculine is agressive and protective and that the men you've run up against were poor protectors and were horrible examples to follow. If I'd grown up in a situation like that (as my Mum did) I'd want to buck the system too.
    Brutality tends to beget brutality and being seen as brutal and totalitarian is more tied to insecurity than being a Real Man. A Real Man is a guy that happens to be alive and is basically an alright bloke in a vague sort of way.
    For me my masculinity grew up my nose like a thicket not on my back as you described. Do I cut 'em or keep 'em? Stupid nose hair. :D
    But naw, to be a strong individual means less about making other men less manly but more about personal growth and finding a way of thinking that does not rely on outside ideologies.
    Wearing a dress isn't shocking, but making someone wear one is.
    I hope you keep up your personal growth and can figure out how to get that monkey off your back - I'm trying much the same thing, albeit from the opposite direction :)

    It's not just a male thing girls are encouraged to flaunt their femininity. They scream i f they see a mouse, if a pigeon flies to close if they get splashed by water or they see a picture of their favourite pop star. Their mums taught them that screaming is feminine and being popular and fashionable are the most important things in life. My wife was very inquiring when she was young and always reading. Her mother would ask "why are you always reading? That won't get you a husband" It was her father who encouraged her to keep on studying.
    by th time she was in her thirties she was consultant l registrar and Head of Neurology at one of the country's top hospitals. It's not just men who try to perpetuate these myths about masculinity and femininity

    Human traits are a mix of nature and nurture and everyone is different, masculinity comes from nature as much as it does conditioning and to blame the problems some men cause on everyone who shares their gender is sexism. He often talks a lot of good sense I think but disagree a bit on what he says here.

    "Everything on the news are the problems of men" Why be so negative? What about architecture, inventions, firefighters etc, basically, civilization; what about the successes of men?

    In the first two seconds, he nails exactly why he has an issue with masculinity: "growing up with rather bad male role models."
    He seems to ignore the fact that he is projecting his own struggles with masculinity and his transvestisism (as being an exception to the rule) onto all male behaviour.

    • @roryhungrrr
      @roryhungrrr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He's using that as precedent as well as seeing that high divorcing families, feminism, a relative lack of blue collar work (and by proxy less physical labour) and changing breadwinners means masculinity's meaning is up for debate. He's simply starting the discussion.

      He's not projecting. He's starting a discussion, questioning what it is to be masculine. Modern society is shifting massively... The highest cause of death in men under 40 in UK is suicide. Why is that? What's happening ? How can men shift with the times and embrace emotions? Embrace alternatives to being the suit wearing, macho provider....
      Men are amazing, they've built economies, buildings, business.....list goes on.
      But wounded men who can't express themselves damage society, damage their families and damage themselves.
      Grayson is extremely compassionate and just wants to come at things from a different angle.

    Remembering the styles since the 50s, changing in & out of love with the Male in tune with his Feminine side! Since the invention of the word Metrosexual though in the 90s we've seen the narcissistic personality of a grooming male go more in tune with their inner feminine. The Machismo is still prevalent in their Attitude & 'acting out' but have u seen the billion pound rise of beauty products & expansion of the male wardrobe to equal that of Females! It's hard to tell who's what gender stereotype & it's refreshing to guess anyone's sexual preference ,surely a good sign things are slowly but ultimately shaping up nicely in favour of freedom of expression; for males to be honest about their true nature, unlike the 50s era man & the insidious mind control propoganda they were under to conform to ' the Norm'!!! A tactic still used to get the 'cannon fodder' for Wars by brainwashing males into sheeple mode! Escape from this nightmare is now more possible it seems for any male who wants to rebel against Patriarchal Bullying, just by dress sense,& style & showing their inner Feminine in subtle choices of visual displays. Peacocks maybe but it's better than just COCKY dickheads ha

    'Normality is the perfect aspiration of the unsuccessful'. This is what someone who failed at realising their dreams or potential would say. An ordinary woman who's ambition it was to have a child, is happy being normal as she achieves her dream. Its people who live in islington who cannot accept this.

    It's fine for clowns like him. He's lucky to be growing up in a world between the recurring world wars. The peaceful time we are enjoying at the moment has been bought with the blood of brave young men who were real men but it won't last.

    • @meandmymouth
      @meandmymouth 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vladis You sound like a left wing dreamer of the socialist utopia in the sky.The fact is that the symmetry of matter dictates that the universe is made up of a balance of light and dark matter, good and evil, hard and soft, ying and yang etc. That means that if we allow our own warrior age young men to become sissy girly boys like him then who will there be to fight off the inevitable evil armed invasion of our enemies ?

    • @meandmymouth
      @meandmymouth 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vladis Well you go on believing in a "third gender" world if you feel comfortable about it but I will continue to believe in the stability of opposites in matter like between male and female. Physics shows that the transformative zone between these two states of matter is inherently unstable which means chaos and anarchy. We will never be free of wars because like forest fires started by lightening they are part of the natural cycles.

    • @NickSBailey
      @NickSBailey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You're completely wrong the world wars were half fought by terrified kids who didn't want to be there but were forced into it. War is PTSD and lost limbs. Masculinity is not about war. This subject has little to do with left/right politics.
