Costume designer Mona May on creating iconic fashions for Clueless

Mona May has been working in Hollywood as a costume designer since the early 90s, styling movies such as The Wedding Singer, A Night At The Roxbury, Enchanted, and of course, Clueless. We sat down with May to talk about her process for creating costumes for Clueless that have become iconic.

I don’t think she meant for it to sound offensive. Like it wasn’t her intention to come off as judgmental but it was probably the best way to describe the clothing she was going for. Often times with my friends I’ll describe a skirt or a dress as “hoe-y” depending on how short the length of it is. I’m not degrading anyone for wearing it or mocking the clothing, but like, it’s just a way of describing a piece. Yk what I mean? Sorry if that didn’t make sense lol
