I'd love to sit down and have a conversation with this man, although I'd probably be too starstruck and too timid to utter a word. He's so articulate....he knows how to express himself (and the band) in a way that's both pleasant & enlightening. I love how their albums are thematic. It makes me want to or have to digest them as a whole instead of just several ones and move on to the next. I recently rediscovered my love for Nightwish. Right now I'm stuck with Imaginaerum and the Wacken live with Floor; have been for weeks now (what do you expect when you try to transition from Imagination & Storytelling to Science & Reason). I still can't get over both of them, but the time for Endless Forms Most Beautiful draws near. :D I'm loving The Greatest Show on Earth already. It's my favorite from the album...for now.
I like how he talks about listening to an album from start to finish, really listening to the music and focusing your attention. Look, I'm slightly older than he is and I can remember buying an album and then listening to it nonstop from start to finish over and over to really get to know it. That used to be standard. I have to admit I haven't done that in years, probably since the 90s. I'm an old metal chick who just discovered Nightwish and since then I have started re-listening to my favorite albums from start to finish--and it feels good. I plan to do this soon with my first Nightwish album, I just haven't decided yet which one that should be. Great interview, it's interesting hearing his perspective. (My first time hearing an interview with Tuomas.)
Toumas is a incredibly talented songwriter! So many great songs, and "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" is a masterpiece! Also, Floor Jansen is a rockstars, rockstar! She kicks ass:)
English speakers tend to spell the O and U in his name the wrong order. Maybe they aren't all English speakers though, the talk just is usually in English. It's Tuomas.
I own the album on vinyl. He is right, it is not their loudest, nor their most bombastic album, but it is arguably one of their most beautiful and complex. No pun intended.
Nightwish forever!
The Greatest Show On Earth").
Good interview! :) Weak fantasy must be a song with a chorus sing by Marco! (think about it: Wish I Had an Angel, Bye Bye Beautiful, Ghost River, Weak Fantasy... All of them are second songs on their albums, Taikatalvi is just an intro!)
Oh fuck, NOOOO!!!! «We felt that none of the songs really required any operatic lyrical approach when it comes to her vocals and I think that's gonna be one of the biggest surprises on this album for people because many of them are expecting this high and low operatic style all the time and it's not trully present there, only in one or two songs.» :(
I don't see anything wrong with that. It's refreshing to explore other options especially since Floor's voice is more versatile than Tarja's. Don't get me wrong , I like Tarja and Anette's voice but they both can sing one style but Floor's voice gives more possibilities.
They in no way challenged Floor. I mean, i love the band and the album, but Floor could do SO much more. Just watch her version of The Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort.
I've now ween a few interviews with Tuomas about this album, and most interviewers aee hostile about the subject matter. It seems that the observation and realization that life is an ongoing process that we're a part of rather than a divine, planned out, rigid setup is hard to accept for more people than just hardcore religious fundamentalists. Strange, sad and alarming.
I would love to play your music loudly through my sound system if it weren't for the stupid constant complaints from the neighbor's in my apartment "Your music is too heavy and loud!".
The whole interview was in English! Why would we need English subtitles? It makes senses the subtitles are in German because the interviewer and the EMP Rock Invasion are German. Even if "everybody" speaks English there, German is their native language not English.
brazigirl08 I was talking about why not having no subtitles. I live in Holland what is practically next to Germany and English is our second language, we never use subtitles although I think you can use it on tv if you want to
Martijn Hoogmoed I would say that it's becuse german, like spanish and french is a widely used language. When you have that, it's much easier to get away with avoiding english. There are more things made in that language and also more incentive to make translations than smaller languages like dutch or swedish (where I'm from). Then, because people are so used to having things in their own language, they keep translating. I doubt most people really need it, but having things in your native language can be more convenient.
***** I see, thanks for the explanation ;) I thought English was the second language in most countries in Europe because it's being leaned at school and everybody loves Hollywood movies and of course music.
Martijn Hoogmoed Even though you learn English at school, it doesn't mean that you'd also understand spoken language well. It's easier to read subtitles in your own language than to keep on guessing what you have heard. :) Language skills vary a lot, all of us haven't got the best marks at shcool. I'm a Finn and understand Tuomas' English because he speaks slowlier and clearer than native speakers.
Nightwish is a band that never gets old:)

Endless Forms "More" Beautiful.. :D
sinthoras91 Our "Most" favourite comment! ;-)
2:33 EXACTLY. Couldn't have said it better.

It's Tuomas.
I love this man!!!!
Don't worry, Tuomas: I'll for sure listen to the album from beginning to end the first few times, with my good earphones^^ Don't wanna miss a thing!
I own the album on vinyl. He is right, it is not their loudest, nor their most bombastic album, but it is arguably one of their most beautiful and complex. No pun intended.
Probably their best album yet, IMO. That goes without saying that I am also a fan of both Dawkins and Sagan (the bonus track).
Some doubt the beauty in imagination judging books by covers the world is a mysterious place God bless the ones who struggle
Nightwish forever!
Genius

+Rasmus Marttila (Hipsterisiili) Aaaaaaaaaaand, it actually kinda is :3
i recognised immediatly the song at the beginning : it is watch the world burn by Trivium check it out it rocks
Just came here to see his eyes
hope they release the demo of that one song with its lyrics tho
Love the wish

:(
i guess it'll have a fair amount of choirs, which Floor will surely sing in lyrical voice during the live shows
I don't see anything wrong with that. It's refreshing to explore other options especially since Floor's voice is more versatile than Tarja's. Don't get me wrong , I like Tarja and Anette's voice but they both can sing one style but Floor's voice gives more possibilities.
Stargazer operatic lyrics are so cheesy...
So Tuomas is saying that the songs are somewhat placed in a particular order in the album?
There's a lady who inspires I think her name is floor and she's great
Heavier? well elan and sagan didnt look similar to "old" ones like planet hell and so, but lets see the whole album!
I have a huge crush on Tuom, like I mean look at that face, he is one of the most beautiful men on earth x_x
He always reminds me of Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Dracula or Johnny Depp
Ugh, same. At first he kinda creeped me out but...he's just so handsome to me. And his accent. ^-^
He's a mix between Johnny Depp and Post Malone
Am I only one who thought that Tuomas will get something to eat for sharing his thoughts? ::: D
They in no way challenged Floor. I mean, i love the band and the album, but Floor could do SO much more. Just watch her version of The Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort.

no entendí nada ._.
I would love to play your music loudly through my sound system if it weren't for the stupid constant complaints from the neighbor's in my apartment "Your music is too heavy and loud!".
But...this album isn't that heavy???
I came for food.
Lol the album is not heavy
Why the German subtitles? Can't German's speak English?
