SECRET from a decorator: While I know NO one wants to hear this...Those GB houses that look fabulous are always built in stages, several days of cure time. For best results, Decorate each panel FLAT, day one. You aren't fighting gravity and the icing bag will perform better this way. Allow the icing to harden-Depending on the humidity in your climate may be best to wait overnight (so hard to wait, I know). Next day, glue two of the decorated panels together x two. Support their union with can goods etc. Give that a day to dry. (Impatient I KNOW) Day three take your two two piece corner panels you have made with the four wall panels and marry those together. One of the days put your roof together. You get the idea. Instead of attempting to knock the project out in one day...simply split it up in several making all look forward to a nightly fun routine. I know how magical it would be to get great results in a day. But remember, Rome wasn't built in a day neither are Story book GB houses. 🤣 ~ No catcher required.

Quick tip for gingerbread houses- use melted white chocolate as “glue”. It dries/hardens much faster than the icing!

For gingerbread houses I melt sugar in a pan, and dip my cookie edge in. It works like hot glue, and hardens really quickly. Both wreaths you made are STUNNING.

Kathryn - Amazing and fun crafts. Can't wait to try some. Don't feel bad about the gingerbread houses. My daughter and I would buy a kit every year and it would either be a disaster or we would run out of time before the holiday. Finally, we gave up on Christmas gingerbread houses and just waited 'til February and turned them into Valentine gingerbread houses. What fun and just as good. Awesome Kathryn just like you! Something that might help with the gingerbread houses is even if you buy a kit try making your own royal icing, it’s like glue it hardens really well and lasts a long time! Making gingerbread houses is always a favorite memory for me! ❤️

Hi Katherine!! This was spot on. Thank you so much for all your inspiration! Oh, and I still have an original Caboodle that I still use to this day for my manicure and pedicure needs. It's way over 30 years old and I love it. My husband calls it my tackle box :)

I used the same neutral colored leaf and hydrangea sprays for my wreath, with a black and white check pumpkin sitting atop the lace and burlap ribbon bow, so cute!! All from DT! A hint for putting together gingerbread houses from a store bought kit: add egg white powder to the icing in the kit, it will harden quite a bit more.😁

That Dia De Los Muertos inspired wreath would be equally beautiful with some of the yellow marigold fall flowers with small hot pink and purple accents!!
I love the black and purple wreath! It's soooo cool!!! Also, if you have glittery things, spray them with hairspray! It'll keep the glitter from falling off!

So my kids love Gingerbread houses so our “elf” started setting them up for them to decorate - guess what he used? Hot glue to build the house. Then the kids could decorate to their hearts content with no collapsing!!

As a writer, I'm afraid I will find one of my books in the dollar bin. There is a rock band composed of well-known writers called The Red Hot Remainders. That's what we call those bins.
I found my favourite books for discount at 20p each! I got 8 but the series of books has 34. I ended up buying the other 26 at full price £5 each and also buying them again on Kindle at £5 each. So those £1.60 worth of books ended up with me spending over £500.
What I'm saying is..hey it's not a bad thing cos you could be introducing someone to your writing who loves it and goes and buys the rest of your books and becomes an avid fan.

That's too bad . . . I know you have probably looked and looked, some of my Dollar Trees have them when you walk in the door, over by the cashiers and they're sometimes outside on the front walk. Usually after the holidays, what decorations didn't sell are in the clearance bins. I don't know about everyone else but there's usually nothing I want. Hopefully things will change for you at your Dollar Trees.🙏

You are not alone! I frequent 5 different Dollar Trees in my area and I've NEVER seen a clearance section at any of them! I have only seen clearance items when traveling to visit family.
I’ve never seen a Dollar Tree clearance section either! I never knew it existed so I haven’t looked for it, but I’m pretty sure I’ve checked out every inch of the Dollar Trees I’ve lived near over the years. They’ve all been small-medium sized stores, not the big ones I see on here lol.
Would love if mine had those baskets too! Those are gorgeous. I was just in there this weekend and they didn’t have any that looked that nice
I see all the comments about clearance . . . DT clearance is not like the clearance you see at other stores. It's not as though it's good stuff that they are discontinuing and they want to clear it off the shelves. It's odds and ends of items that are usually broke . . . chipped porcelain, cracked glass. I almost never stop to look at it because it's mostly junk! So I just wanted to say, your not missing out on much!
I still have my caboodle from my teenage years! Ha! (And I still use it to house my make up back up supply) 😆

I went to dollar tree today and then to target and I saw several items in target that I had just bought at the dollar tree!! You make these wreaths look so easy!!
