In 1843 a forested, rural 5 acre tract of land on the west hillside edge of Cincinnati, Ohio was purchased by Mt St. Mary's Seminary. There new priests were educated and formed to minister to the influx of German Catholic immigrants to the inner city. To accommodate the swell of arriving Catholic families a new parish church and school was founded in 1869 by the St. Mary's Seminary when land was obtained by the St. Mary's Seminary at the site of Wabash Pike and Rapid Run Pike. Later these road names were changed to Warsaw and St. Lawrence Avenues.
A two story red brick building with a stone foundation measuring 67 feet by 37 feet was constructed for $11,000.00 across the street from where the current St. Lawrence Church sits today. The building was dedicated on June 12, 1870. For more information on the history of St. Lawrence Church, please watch the video.

We raised our children in this church. From k to 8. Spent many many hours here as a parent, volunteer, and festival worker. Las Vegas night and Bingo and basketball games. We spent 23 years in this parish. From Fr Concerta to Fr Dressman to Fr Westerhoff. Miss our old church family..
It's a great church!
@historyinyourownbackyard2363 yes it is a great church and community.
From one local-history enthusiast to another, thank you, Donata, for your cordial, inviting way of introducing this video on St. Lawrence and the one on St. Monica-St. George - equally appreciated. (I was once a parishioner at both parishes.)
Beautiful church!
As a former resident of Price Hill, I passed this church many times and never realized the beauty inside.
Nice church!
I have many memories of St Lawrence and its Latin School, which I attended in 1947 an 48. Having attended Mass in the magnificent structure. Thanks for the journey into the past. William J Donnellon
I was confirmed there and graduated from St. L. When I think of all the dedicated adults, often parents, who volunteered with the numerous organizations, it's inspiring.
Good deal!
thank you so much for posting this....i attended Seton H.S. nearby and we had many school Masses for the classmates inside this Church...also i took my marriage prep classes here at night which was required before the Sacrament o Marriage.....AMAZING FOOTAGE..and the organ music was spectacular....truly a treasured piece of architect in my early days . I now reside in NY..but my heart is still in Cincinnati. Amazing video. THE MAGNIFICENT ORGAN MUSIC on this video starts at 6:19...you must stop and listen.
