This was probably the best episode I've seen so far. Really strong work on both your parts.

The modern churches built now have nothing on these old parish churches. The artwork, the wood working, windows and detail in the architecture makes one feel closer to God, a spiritual experience. Have prayed these steps several times and am so grateful they are still here. Great series of videos, love this channel having just found it yesterday!

My Great Uncle, my grandfather's only brother, James Secor (Ft Anselm Secor, CP) was a priest at this church. Our family lived in Mt Adams from about the end of the Civil War until they moved to Walnut Hills in around 1920. They had moved up from the Pendleton,

Johann Schmitt is the same artist who did the sacristy of the Mother of God's Church in Covington, KY (Mutter Gottes Kirche).
He was also my Mom's Mother's , Della Racke Linneman, step father.
My grandmother had a couple of paintings by Mr Schmitt in her house that was on Willard St in Covington. I have no idea as to what became of the paintings.

Beautiful church and history, but another example of the sad decline of the Catholic Church since the Second Vatican Council.

The official story was it only took a year to build this church. Come on man. One of the oil paintings inside would have taken over a year. How could anyone fall for that??

While this great video tells one side of the story, it is important to note that other factors were also involved. The homilies, called sermons back then, may well have been an important issue, but there was an absolute war going on between the Irish and the German Catholics. So intense was the mutual dislike, they would not be buried together - hence the St. Joseph's New and St. Joseph's Old Cemeteries on the west side of Cincinnati. The separate but equal issue of the day! But in the current sense, please remember that if you don't have a Pastor, you don't really need a church. I'm afraid the writing is on the wall and the loyal, generous people that have held the parish together for so many years may end up with nothing. The property, as with all Catholic parishes, is owned by the Archdiocese (see attached). Being on the list of National Historic Places did not save the Holy Spirit Chapel on 5th Street from the wrecking ball and I doubt it would save Immaculata Church. Dream, if you wish, about the sentimental "Golden Rule". The Golden Rule that really count$, however, is "Whoever has the gold - makes the rules". Was it a nightmare when I heard the asking price for the condo penthouse (occupancy Spring, 2032) with the absolute premier view of the city, is only $3.5 million?
