Just want to say how valuable your videos have been for me in working on my 2015 Dr 650. Had to change out my Speedo cable and some other maintenance tasks. Your vid was immensely helpful. Camera work, commentary etc were great. From half a world away here in Johndon City Tennessee thanks and keep on keepin’ on! Regards too to your wife as camera person.
Hello Mark; I am home, just came from Hospital after some day surgery; All good and you have cheered me up and I have learned more shit. Good on ya! Cheers to Naomi .....enjoy the rain. Looking forward to seeing more stuff on the the DR650....
Heads up for you Mark, that wire guide on the lower fork leg should be running almost parallel with the fork leg. The small bend on the top of the wire closest to the bold should sit on top of the small mounting tab. Hope that makes sense.
Another cool video, I also have a DR 650 and love the thing to bits. Easy to ride, easy to fix, and parts are cheap as chips. No wonder they are so popular.
Careful with the grease on speedo end of inner cable Mark, it can migrate into your speedo and cause problems in those old style instruments. I used to get breakages on those in winter as water can get into the outer cable sometimes and freeze solid overnight, then as soon as you move off in morning the cable can't rotate so it snaps instead.....arse!
Great video Mark! Learned something new and I can apply that to my DRZ, if that issue happens to arise. Thanks my man. Cheers. Scott here in Las Vegas.
Nice one Mark. Another wee job ticked off the list eh! And now you have a proper speed you can blur out when out for hoon. 🤣. Hope you guys are having a good weekend. Awrabesht from me and the clan. 😉🏴👍🍻
G'day Mark, cheers for another informative and entertaining episode. I'm interested to know where you got those black spacers from and what size they are, you've used spacers to get the screen forward of the headlight / instrument cowling and create a low pressure zone to reduce wind noise I presume?
Hey Mark, Me and a friend live in Holland and we decided to start riding enduro aswell. My friends mind has been set on a DR650 aswell. However You can`t buy a DR in Europe, not the new ones at least. So thats a bummer. However now we are thinking of buying a second hand machine, but could you maybe tell something about pitfalls to look for when buying a used machine. I mean in australia there are more DR`s than in Europe. What are common faults to look out for? Thanks for any help you can provide. Keep on riding! :)
Considering the DR has not changed since 1996 there is no difference between the old and new, but good luck trying to find one. I have 2 DRs at the moment, a 2005 and a 2014, one has 495,000 Klm’s and the other 287,000 Klm’s so they last a long time. Look for the same things you would look at on any second hand bikes, like all bikes they have little problems the DR on the whole is pretty good, I have replaced the stators on both bikes and replaced the gearbox output shafts on both, but I am talking 200,000 Klm’s. If your friend can find one grab it, go to pro cycle.us, and the sky is the limit, you can buy anything and everything your heart desires.
Good that you did a spin to check it's working, but most mechanics will always do a road test to ensure it works in its intended capacity - just sayin'

Thank you for your time. TN-USA
We've had to replace a couple speedo cables, good job. Love how simple the DR's are to work on 😀 Hope you have a great weekend!

I like to use never seize on bits that don't often get undone, wonderful stuff

Mark I didn't see you do it but make sure you use a cable lube on all cables before and after ( regular maintenance ) you install them. Good job.
Great video Mark! Love your "how to" videos. Keep on Riding my friend!
Cheers!
Mark .you did it correctly ,because it works.
Another option is to pull it apart. You can pop the seal out with a big screwdriver and the gear just comes out. Easier to clean and grease up.
Nice informative video Mark. Good job.
Usual high quality, informative vid Mark. Thank You.
Excellent as always 😎👍👍👍👍

I use Mineral Spirits in my solvent / cleaner tank. Never thought of Kerosene though, I have access to lots of it.
That’s it mate! Like all good Bush Mechanics. F/T is a good Spec... 🤣
Nice one cobber😃👊🏻
Yea, Speedo drives just fill up with crap over time.
"short lookers" Same Mark, same.
Is the bit that spins and drives the worm screw plastic? Thks
Pretty sure it was metal!
Greetings
As always excellent detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸
What type of grease do you recommend to use?
Keep producing more videos.
Waterproof grease
As clear and concise of a cable replacement video how-to that can be found.

What WhiteDRguy said :-)
I found a 2010 bike with 51000km on it. I was hesitant but because of your remarks not anymore.
I had my speedo sensor turn over and brake cable. after cable replacement speedometer still shows 0 mph. Should i change sensor?
How many KM’s you have on Max now?
The DR650 is a great bike and not hard to work on - just keep the grease up to the bearings. Just the bike for off road and not too heavy IMHO.
the cable guide should be pointing straight down at the ground on the dr650
Top the parts cleaner up with diesel.. Works out a lot cheaper.. 👍
Good that you did a spin to check it's working, but most mechanics will always do a road test to ensure it works in its intended capacity - just sayin'
It's now done 525kms and is working beautifully! :-)
@@BikerBits Now THAT'S a road test !
Sweet!
