Good stuff to know for me. I'm one of those that really hates shaving, because I look like a child with a receding hairline without facial hair. I have my first dive for getting my certification here in a couple days, this will definitely come in handy for deciding what works for me.
Freddy, thank you so much for all the good info you have provided through so many videos. Your honest open attitude with no "sales pitch" makes me wish you were my local dealer.
I am sure you are correct. And I have never launched from a submarine, but I thought I saw a program where they had a chamber that they could launch divers from within the body of a submarine. I almost had an opportunity to exit a torpedo tube in the Navy but sadly it didn't happen. Thanks for watching. Freddy
Interesting video. I too trim under my nose. Id not thought about pressurizing my mask some. My mask always leaks. I got good at clearing it. Id gotten a high end mask with tinted lenses. My instructor helped fit it. I was getting a great pop in the store. It the pool and it was filling up from the sides quickly. I went from fully loosened to tight. It was worse than the mask i was trying to replace. My instructor was surprised by it.
Great video, but you do have one misconception at 12:50ish. While I understand the illustrative point you were making, as a retired USN officer with 30 years of service, much of it on nuclear submarines, I can say with some authority that we maintain about 1 atmosphere at all times when submerged. Perhaps a better example might be a diving bell which does maintain a pressure equal to ambient at depth. But hey, that’s a nit. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the video guys. As you mentioned, a bearded bloke for 40 or so years I trim underneath the nose 1/4 inch or so with the electric shaver (no comb just bare blades) then shave it right down to the skin with a disposable blade. If it's a bit stubbly after a few days a little Burts Beeswax does the trick. Works very well. Thanks again.
thanks for all you do bud i've really learned a lot on this channel, i snorkel a few times a year in the cayo coco cuba area and been doing recreational snorkeling for many years (im now 64) its so difficult in my area of canada to find a dive shop equipped to fit my face its very hit and miss for sure, wonder if you'd have any suggestions?? i have and old tusa that is about 20years old could use a new one soon. thanks again for all your very cool videos marc in eastern canada
Hey Marc, thanks for the kind comments. There are masks that fit a larger percentage of faces over others. We do pretty good visually. If you want to send a photo of upper torso and head. Front and side, we can get really close. Of course with anything going through the mail there is the risk that it doesn't fit and you send it back. Make sure you look up the video how a mask should fit. After watching that you can let us know how your current Tusa mask actually fits. We will know the mask and can make some adjustments. Of course if there is a dive shop near you, then use the lesson in our video and see if you can find one local. Our shop email address is Dive@CoralKeyscuba.com. Freddy
Great video! Never knew of or thought about using a masking seal. Beeswax, soft- got it! I live in Israel and I can get that! My religion requires a beard (Jewish) so no option. Thanks!!
Thanks for the video, was great. I personally dont like sticky stuff on my face so first option is great just a little shave ubder the noose and bobs your uncle. I just snorkel for now. Have a nice camera housing for my Sony A6400. Cheers from New zealand
Soft contacts are your cheapest option. There are numerous products for adding readers to your current mask. And you can add lenses to a new mask. They can glue them in or you can get prescription. Thanks for watching more to come soon. Freddy
Always a pleasure to watch. Thank you
You are kind. Thanks for watching. Freddy

Submarines maintain atmospheric pressure when diving. You might be thinking of a diving bell.

…. And I’ve had a moustache for nearly my entire adult life…. For me, a little water is never an issue, even when I might go inverted.
