Excellent video. Sucks the shifter didn't work out, but I do have to say your forearm workout shifter plate looks EXCELLENT! With or without the black paint would have looked good!
@@MightyRaze thank you! In retro Spect, the stock shifter progressively got further and further away from first gear and it’s downward travel. I just didn’t notice that. I bet if the geometry was the same, and that bar I cut could have been the same length, it probably would’ve had the same throw. I thought about polishing that aluminum plate like a truck gas tank or diesel tank I mean but I just did not have the supplies to do that. I figured the black paint will weather and wear, overtime it should get some good patina
I like that shifter, it would be really cool looking if you got a yellow paint marker and made the rivets yellow, also I've had a lot of front mount bolts fall out of the case, I put red locktite on all of them so they dont come back out. I've used blue, and they still work loose. I'm also wondering what tires/hubs you are using for the back, that'll be a cool vid to watch!
@@spudstudios3342 yes you are correct with the bolts backing out because when I took the five speed out of the Murray one of those case bolts for the support bracket was loose. I think it’s still 5/16-18 thread pitch so I was considering cutting a bolt down so that it would go all the way to the bottom of the hole and using a lock washer., I’ve got a whole bottle of red. As for the tires, I would love to put big tires on it, but the shifter strikes again. It’s in the wheelwell and I think anything bigger than like a 24 inch tire will hit the shifter.I found I can get 23 - 10-12 ITP Mud lights and those should work really good. I need to get a set of 8 inch rims for the front and he will get the 19 inch sun F.
When you find yourself bending thick metal or long distances you can score the outside of the bend line about with half way through the metal with your cutter wheel bend it and then weld it back up
@@DustyLaman-tz7yr you are absolutely correct! I did think about doing that, and I’ve done it before. That piece of bar came from the packaging cage around my big tiller. I’ve had steel break off trying to bend it after scoring and I wasn’t sure the grade or quality of this stuff. I may revisit the side where I did the double 45’s and score it so it’s tighter.
That shift gate came out sweet! I can't wait to see this on the trails.
@@hotlapgarage he’s gonna love this thing even more when it’s done!
Awesome video guys!

@Tennesseemountainhomestead that sounds sweet, 23s will be just fine for that little thing
