I still remember hearing the news about John’s passing like it was yesterday. He was a really good dude, he only wanted to make guns and innovate. I used to joke with him that he was the finest gun maker and possibly the worst businessman in the world. I’m good friends with his father, we met after Johnny’s death and I’m closer to him now than I was with his son. I can see where the foundation of Johnny’s drive and personality came from. His wife and children are doing well, though I can’t imagine what a toll his death has taken on them. His wife Lorena runs the company now and has continued making the best ARs out there, bringing out some of his last designs and new ones. Her influence is very obvious, as an artist she has improved the package from simple cardboard tubes for barrels and rails to a more ‘finished’ looking/brand image box. John would be proud of the company today. Johnny co-designed the KeyMod concept with VLTOR, and true to his spirit and beliefs, he gave the specifications to the industry for an open platform to make free float rails considerably lighter than traditional quad rails while allowing you a large variety of attachment points where you need them. They also created it without making any commission. It can be argued that the same concept was the basis and business model for Magpul’s M-LOK. Johnny saw something that could be done better and gave it to everyone, for free. I have some of the first KeyMod rails and remember being blown away at how light it was. Less than 10 years later you see the system used from low price weapons and parts up to the highest end, most esteemed companies such as Knights Armament and LaRue. A part of the gun industry died with Johnny. It was evident at SHOT after his death with the tributes to him. The only other tribute that was on par to his was the following year for Mikhail Kalashnikov. Everyone who met Johnny loved him, even Mark LaRue, who had a public falling out with Johnny, had posted a nice statement after his passing. I recently saw a company that release blatant rip offs of the KX3 and KX5. Johnny had created those for a specific purpose but he probably wouldn’t even care if the company was doing that when he was alive. He made products to improve the function of guns and had a dedicated base of customers. There are many of us that immediately think ‘Noveske’ when we hear the words Precision AR Barrels. Johnny also did special runs of stuff for clients if they asked for it. One of the Army Special Forces Groups was looking for something more precise than an M4, yet lighter and more maneuverable than a MK12 or SAM-R. They called Noveske and he made a batch of his stainless steel 16” Recon barrels with profile for the OPS collar and break. Those became known as the MK12 Mod H. As the company grew he did less of the one offs, but if you knew him (like I did) or got him on the right day such as not a lot going on, he’d still do it from time to time. That’s an example of his love for the weapon and less of the care about the ledger.
I had talked about building a customs ar and one of my really close friends awhile back and he had mentioned, “ Have you ever heard of Noveske Rifleworks?” I said no and he replied “YOU NEED TO.” and it all snowballed from there. Unfortunately I found out about Mr. John Noveske after he passed but it’s safe to say he and his company planted a seed that now is constantly being watered. My passion and love for guns and our constitutional rights has grown exponentially since and all of my ar’s that I have built and assembled myself are from Noveske. He was and still is a true inspiration. His legacy will live on forever. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I am a proud owner of a Noveske rifle. Within it lies the spirit and pride of it's maker. When the time comes to pass it down to my grandchildren, I will tell them the story of a boy from Oregon who had a dream, and who realized that dream as a man. I will tell them to dream big and make their mark as John has. May he Rest In Peace.
His legacy will live on in each one of these outstanding pieces of firearms He created. May god bless the Noveske family our thoughts and prayers are with you.
I thought I might be too old at 17 to start learning how to machine and mill firearms, John must have been a great man. Wish I could have known him. Definitely going to put money towards one of his fine rifles.
thegr8pulido Johnny was an awesome dude, both as a person and as a gunmaker. You will not be disappointed with a Noveske rifle. I have many ARs in my collection, but the Noveske’s hold a special place in my heart.
Michael Harbula 4 years later and you’re certainly correct. He’d be proud at what his wife and the employees have done with the company. While certainly more arty and flashy (his wife is an artist) they continue to innovate and make rifles/parts to the same exacting standards that he did.
Zex Nynex If you search on here you can see full unedited interview with Knights Armament (15-20 Minute I believe) and Noveske posted parts 2&3 of the tributes (this is part 1) which were played in the background at his service.
I liked the Albert Pike quote. All I have ever heard about Albert Pike was of his book in the 1800's, Morals and Dogmas. He spoke about 3 World Wars in the 1860s or 1870s?? and why started. He was very accurate. According to Pike, they were planned many decades before WW1. I would recommend checking it out. RIP John Noveske. Thank you to the employees who kept his legacy alive and superbly well... Bad to the bone rifles.
Rumors are that john posted a list on his FB account about the meds that were perscribed to Adam Lanza and the other students who committed school shootings. I have to say looked it up and contacted a doctor friend its pretty true. Some people say John was killed like the other gun rights supporters around the states chris kyle and others bless there souls, What on earth is going on in america. Nevertheless a amazing man who led a amazing life Rest in Peace John Noveske
Mayhem… Ever heard of Aaron Swartz SOPA? (Documentary “The Internet’s Own Boy” doesn’t go into his demise) The list of good people we have lost goes on and on and not just in America. Nothing new under the sun. Then came JESUS preaching Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. John 3:3-5 = Acts 2:38-39… 🩸💧🕊
comp1911 I can tell you why, he was just a straight up awesome and down to earth guy. Johnny never met a stranger. If you called up the shop and he answered or the call was transferred to him, he would talk to you for as long as you guys needed for a conversation, even if it was long after your product question was answered. Even though he had a company to run, when you got ahold of him at the shop it was like you were the only customer he had. He was a true enthusiast I still go to send him a text message or call him from time to time before I realize it. I talk to his father a lot and his family are just great people.
ryanburbridge They’re getting by as best as they can emotionally. I think his father took it harder than everyone, but they all were obviously devastated. As with any family, they never got ‘over it’ but time has helped take the edges off of the loss. Johnny was a special guy. Not only did he leave behind his parents, wife and children - he left behind his ‘second family’ the employees and lastly a lot of friends in the industry from the biggest manufacturers to LE/MIL to people who just like shooting.
super secret You should definitely pick up a Noveske whether you can afford one now or save up for one. I knew Johnny and I’m still friends with his parents who live Grants Pass. You will probably run into them without even knowing it. Real salt of the earth people.
super secret : How are you liking G.P.? I've been hear for 13 years now and curs that road every time I'm near that turn. I'm outside of the city so I get to shoot just about any time I like, and I like to shoot. I put Johnnys KX-3 on my SCAR 17 and my Draco, and they never let me down. Hope your having fun and watch out for that fire this year.

Thomas Rakip Your post is a great tribute to the man, his company, and legacy. Thank you

that picture of him with his rifle resting on the rock has such an iconic feel to it...like the one of the sailor after WWII
His legacy will live on in each one of these outstanding pieces of firearms He created.

This gave me chills. What a loss to his family and the community.
What a fantastic tribute video. Very well put together. What a horrible loss to his family.

The real sadness is never knowing what John would have come up with in the future. RIP
07jackd07 I’ve been dating that since the day he passed. I can only imagine what he would have created today, let alone 10/15/20 years from now.
What an inspiration. RIP & thanks John. 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
