For more info about the Mauser transitionary rifles between the StG44 and CETME, take a look at my video on the Gerat 06 and Gerat 06H/StG45: v=WEPwmYcCPFs
I was not a fan. I was in the danish army. The HK 3 we had was so worn down that they often misfired. But if we had new ones it would have been a different story I think. I was in the army in 1997 and the guns was bought by Denmark in 1975. So the riffels had seen a lot of action.
Yeah, it’s a shame no one ever tried to pick that back up, or something similar to it. I particularly like the detail of a high ROF burst mode so they don’t spray too much but a slower automatic so it can be an effective suppressor without running dry in three or four seconds.
By far, my absolute favorite video. So much great info and history. Thanks for your service and thank you for the knowledge you share. This channel is pure quality.
Good man Larry - as a historian of the two world wars, I try to combine cultural and military history, which means knowing a bit about small arms, and rifles in particular. Anyway, this was a succinct, articulate and engaging little presentation - look forward to watching more!
I agree. Spent too much time on Mauser. Could have made a whole other episode based on all the Mauser info he gave. While significant in the founding of HK, Mauser should have only gotten a mention
Two things to note on the G3 overview. 1. The receiver is folded and seams are welded, then welded to the front trunnion, not riveted. (AK blooper reel?) 2. The barrel is pressed into place and pinned into the trunnion, not threaded. Good video though. I really love Mauser 2.0 weapons.
lol, I do enjoy learning so I'll watch some of Vicker's stuff, but you're right. It's so over dramatic and tacticool. Respect what he did for my country though.
I have a Remington model 798 chambered in 30-06 and love it. You get the best of both worlds, that legendary Remington 700 series and the bolt action of the 98 mauser.
Larry I watch all of your videos and I think you do a hell of a job explaining the history of weapons. But this video is probably one of your best. Thank you for producing that and may God bless you always my friend.
always enjoy vickers videos. from his training info to his overviews of weapons and history of weapons. I wish he had his own channel on tv. It would be the only channel I needed from comcast
Very good Video! I'm from Germany and I'm glad, that I was able to understand everything you said! You speak very clearly so even people from other Countries understand your Videos! Thanks! :) And sorry if there are mistakes! ;)
I love the 45 Compact and the G3, but my favorite is the MP5A2. I was issued one during my time in ESU and it practically shot itself... amazing weapon.
I'm not understanding why HK 5.56 roller delayed rifles weren't accepted. The mp5 is widely accepted as the sub gun that has defined the segment for well over 50 years. Would someone elucidate why weapons like the HK 93 aren't more popular.
Its quite simple actually. The G3 was standard in the German Army until the 90's, the 5.56 variants had existed since the 70's but without being the official rifle of the fatherland they had been back seated. By the time Germany wanted a 5.56 the G36 had entered the contest and the 93's were relics of a time past. Optics and weight savings were the traits wanted and the 93 fails on both. Ever used a claw mount? Nothing about it screams ergonomic. The 93 is an amazing iron sight weapon, but irons are all but gone in modern warfare. Hell the US Army MADE me us a M68 and I hated it.
Hello! Very well made video! Realy from a pro!! I am a portuguese guy, and we had some german light weapons at our armed forces. We had the 98 Mauser rifle, for decades, and our professional Republican Guard Naional, still uses it on parades. e had the Luger in some variats before and after the Republic came up (1910) After the Mauser, we had the H&K G-3 and we still have it today, Along with the Mauser rifle, it fought on our ex colonial war in Angola, Mozambique, where I borned in 1964 'cause my father was there as a senior oficer at our air force, we changed our pistol from the Luget to Walther P-38, untill a few years ago, and it served very well!! As a rifle we had the Fal too, during the colonial period war (1961 1975 ) but the G-3 became to proof better for our mostly non-pro soldiers. Well much left to be tell, but I wont bother you even more!! Thanks !!
The irony is the US push 7.62 b/c .280 British was too "weak," only to switch to the much weaker 5.56 a few years later. In fact, we hd the .276 Perderson 30 years before that. All the modern clamor for 6.8mm, (and 6.5,) but we could have fielded such a round decades ago.
bence yılar gecsede 7,62x39 mermiler birinçi kalıtedir 5,56 bu amerikaya pahalıya mal oldu bunuda yönendiren amerikalı izrailer her ülkede savaş cıkarılar sonrada seyrederler
.276 Pedersen (7x51) wasn't an intermediate cartridge; it was a full-power center-fire rifle cartridge, just like the 30-06, except in .276-caliber. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur turned down using the .276, citing the waste of large existing stocks of 30-06 already in armories and warehouses. Whereupon John C. Garand redesigned his Garand to use 30-06.
Informative and entertaining as always Vikers. German firearms are some of the best and innovative in the world. Found out a few more things about the K98, MP44 and H&K that i didn't know in this episode.
Uncle Larrrrrry! This is BY FAR, the best video I have seen on Hk. I am planning to build a Hk G36 this year. I haven't seen many people do it but it should be a fun process.
Please bring back the squeeze cocker model. They would sell out day 1 for ccw. For those to nervous to carry with 1 in the pipe, this is a great option. The P 7 was a fantastic handgun.
Great video (watched it all again with my pops) makes me so happy to own a few HKs along with my other great pistols. Sig, Beretta, Glock, they're all good. I gotta say though in spite of my preference for all-metal pistols, HK is so special (To me) that I make an exception. (Except when I feel like carrying my 1911, of course)
Very interesting video. Could listen to Larry talk all day. I have a G36 and a Hk 91, would love to find a 98K for the collection. Also, an Hk history video with no sections for the mp5 or ump?
I found this video to be super informative. Personally I love the G3 it's one of those Bucket List guns for me, and I'm happy to hear my love wasn't misplaced for this gun.
i own a ww2 stg44 the firing pin is bent bad so i have to either have it straightened or make a new one with my mill, and i have 3 ww2 k98's. and a mp40 there all badass guns.
Fascinating and very informative history! Recently purchased a Denix (Spanish replica) MP-44 for display purposes (weathered it appropriately) and am still amazed at how advanced the design was and how comfortable it is to handle. The looks don't hurt either -- it is in my opinion the coolest (some say ugliest) looking assault rifle ever made. I guess that comes with being the original!
You should definitely look up the years when the Cetme C and the G3 entered production. The Cetme C entered production several years after the G3. The CETME C was based on the G3, which was based on the CETME A2, which was based on the AME 49, which was based on the StG 45.

I would say that FN is better overall, but at the end of the day as long as your gun can fire and the bullet can shoot someone dead, does anything else really matter?
We shouldn't forget the difference between 1) ch after a, o, u and 2) ch after e, i, ä, ü, ö and consonants: 1) In the first case we use the voiceless uvular fricative [χ], as in Scottish "Loch", German "nachts" , "Bach" etc. 2) Otherwise it will be the voiceless palatal fricative [ç], similar to English "huge" or "human"; you'll need this for "rechts", "sprechen" and "ich". There are some regional differences
Mentioning that the K98 is a BYF is cool. “BYF” is actually the code for weapons manufactured by Mauser I believe. My K98, P-08 & P38 are all marked BYF. On a side note about the HK91’s, some are marked “Cal.308”, &“Kal.308”, but the ones that have the factory Woodland camo or Desert camo finish are marked “7.62X51”. Anyone happen to know why the camo finish rifles have the military caliber designation on them & not the “black” finished ones? Good Day Everyone!
Some languages capitalize the formal second-person pronoun: In German, the formal second person singular or plural pronoun Sie is capitalized along with all its case-forms (Ihre, Ihres, etc.), but these words are not capitalized when used as third person feminine singular or plural pronouns. Until the recent German spelling reform, the traditional rules (which are still widely adhered to, although not taught in schools) also capitalized the informal 2nd person singular pronoun Du
Heheh The G3 is folded and riveted around the trunnion. 13:00 You're a bad dude Mr. Vickers, but it's rolled/folded and welded. Enjoyed this video a lot.
I like how Vickers is loud and clear and to the point no mumbling or BS.
Ad Meliora yeah, shame the content is interrupted with so much "brought to you by" and "stay tuned, coming up next we show you"
jackd787 Someone’s gotta pay for the trip to Germany, the camera crew, editing, ammunition etc.

The StG 44 was the forefather to the Mauser StG 45 (M) which later became the forefather to the CETME and G3.
Thanks Larry! I'm a big fan of HK, especially their older weapons like the HK91, HK93, MP5 and P7M8.
HK G11... My favorite prototype rifle of all time next to the HK XM29 OICW. They also had a machine gun variant and PDW variant of the G11.
