Happy Valley on the city limits in Calgary Alberta, man does this ever bring back memories, although I was only five at the time I do remember the helicopter ride go cart racing, the carpet slide, outdoor pool and more I'm sure but thanks for posting this.
For years when ever I saw a reference to Happy Valley, all I could pull from my memory of the place was an image of an orange helicopter - but I couldn't for the life of me believe that was an accurate memory. Now I find this video - many thanks for posting this.
i was on that helicopter with my dad and uncle when it started to take off on its own without the pilot...he barely made it in to get control of it...my uncle who was a pilot was about to jump to the cockpit and take control...pretty scary for a 7 year old kid...but a great story later....i havent seen that helicopter since that day as i dont remember ever going back there...i never really liked it there...to crowded.
My father used to fly that helicopter ride.. He was taking his commercial helicopter license at the time, and from what I can remember, flying that ride counted as hours towards his full license.. I remember the massive slides, and the burlap sacks..
I wasn't born and bread there, but I did work there over the summer of '75. I was 15 yrs old at the time and was mainly the breaker for everybody who we're posted on all the rides and attractions. Great times!
Wow amazing video ,so many great memories there of a golden age of Calgary, would like to see inside the pool ,it was amazing ,thanks to whoever built it . 62 years born and raised.
I loved this place as a kid. We always camped there with our little tent trailer. The pool had the underwater window that outsiders could look at people swimming. Train, go-carts, helicopter, minigolf
Camped there in the 60s on family vacation. rode the helicopter that's still the craziest carnival ride I've ever seen or rode only one like like that I have ever seen.
Thanks so much for sharing this video! One of my favourite places as a child. They were ahead of their time. Any more treasures in your video collection?
I remember going with my dad there to drop of my older brothers, but I don't remember actually going in. That location is where the Valley Ridge Golf Club now is. Strange to see the hills north of the Bow River with no houses on them! All that land is fully developed now.
I remember the helicopter as a child....it was cool to see...if I remember the indoor pool had glass so you could see the swimmers...under the water...
I went there as a teen at night to sneak into the trampolines. The place was run down and neglected. It would have been 76-77. I had my first car. I did not see the copter ride.
@@khalgarrison - yes there was a ski tow run by the City on the hillside below Shag Golf Course. It was gone be the late 70s when I started working for the Parks Dept.
Up until the early 1990's, there were still a few remnants of the old Happy Valley on the site before it got turned entirely into just another residential sub division.
Thanks for posting this! It takes me back to my 15th summer in 1975. Great memories for me!

Trampolines in the ground. How about the fishing hole?
@@davidj4662 What about the paddleboats?

Took my first lessons there, then at paskapoo ski hill (Canada Olympic Park)
Happy world land !😃
I live in happy valley it's called valley ridge 🎉
I remember that helicopter ride. What was the address of Happy Valley?
@Mikes Megabits The place that used to be Happy Valley is now covered over by the Valley Ridge housing subdivision and golf course.
Potato sack slide...for hours!
👍
Anyone know where this was located?
Valley Ridge is there now. N.W corner or 16th ave and Stony trail
Just off the highway going west, on the outskirts of Calgary Alberta.
Up until the early 1990's, there were still a few remnants of the old Happy Valley on the site before it got turned entirely into just another residential sub division.
I think it was called the “J-Copter”
Yes, then they turned it into houses🤨😢
and then the hippies came…..lol
