- Lifeline is a video game that is controlled with your voice. At least, it pretends to be. In practice, you're going to spend a lot of time impotently screaming at the game while Rio ignores and/or wilfully misunderstands you. And then for some reason the game tries to push you together romantically?!

I've heard that the voice recognition was based off Japanese-accented English, and that it legitimately works better when you speak with a Japanese accent. I'm not even joking.

There might be some meat to this theory. At 5:35, Limes says "Case 1," which somehow gets interpreted as "Case 4." My theory for that bizarre interaction is that Laimu's "one" sounded like "yon," which is Japanese for "four."
I wonder, then, if you talk to this game in Japanese, even when playing in the English-language mode, does it still understand you perfectly?
There are literally videos that prove this is indeed the case. That, plus the fact that the game reviewed really well in japan, but very poorly in english speaking countries.

Watching Vargskelethor Joel play this made me laugh out loud so hard, I'm so glad Limes played this as well because these highlights are just as hilarious.
Let's give some credit to the developers. They made a game unlike any other that released back then. They came up with the marvelous idea of making a game about trying to command a lobotomized woman out of a spaceship. It takes some incredible creativity and ingenuity to come up with such a unique concept for a game. We, as a society, should salute them. The streamers who had to play this absolute dumpster fire of a game. Not the developers.
Knowing what she goes through, Laimu's evil laugh at the ambush at the start is far more justified than she knew at the time lol

Its a novel concept, but the issue is that even if this game worked as intended, it would still be awkward to play. Imagine sitting in the house while you have people around, and you're just talking to the fucking tv like a weirdo or a kid watching Dora. Plus, button presses are just more efficient than having to think a word and say.
You are right, but i think part of that is that the whole implementation is weird: Telling a single person every step that they should do.
I think this idea would work a lot better if it was something like 'man in the chair'- you had a couple people doing different things, and you were coordinating, passing information, advice back and forth- but that the characters could function and work without you.
Talking would make more sense and flow better- if the characters are constantly busy they wouldn't be checking the phones etc.
But would be a top tier porn game tho

I know it's unrelated, but I remember when I saw Laimu like a decade ago or so when I got into Vinesauce content (Joel and Vinny in specific). I kind of was on and off with her content but when she debuted with a vtuber model I started to really digging her content, as well as other people by looking at analytics. What I'm trying to say is that I'm glad that after all these years she's getting the attention she deserves.
And I'm glad PirateSoftware is getting popular as well, ferret gang rise up

That's still very impressive for a 2003 game. Maybe a bit ambitious given the time, but still, it somewhat works.
My friend absolutely hates this game. Despises it. Wants it to suffer in the deepest pits of hell to burn for all eternity. His hate and desire to show dominance over it was so strong he willingly learned how to speed run the game to a world record.
