Yeah, so.. the narrator mourns his lost love and expresses his grief at her untimely death. But he feels like he has been taken in her fall and has sacrificed all of his love and life to her. In the song its also mentioned that he also compares his grief to a plague and calls his beloved his "young love" and "young dear". Basically, the song ultimately speaks to the sorrow of unrequited love and of a love that was too deep for one to take.

I'm hoping to eventually hit my players with the lyrics at a very dramatic moment in the story (I just don't know what yet). Anyways, your interpretation helps to narrow that moment down a bit.
