I saw these guys live once, and they asked the crowd what new instruments they should incorporate into their songs. When I shouted bagpipes, the lead singer confirmed... they will do bagpipes...
My friend just sent me this with no context except saying I would like it and I was expecting like a contemporary love song BUT then I heard the horn and was like "oh???" and then the strings and was like "OH???" This whole song was an experience in itself and I am blown away. I was not expecting like a rock ballad + sea shanty + orchestra
If you want something similar to this idea i would highly reccomend checking out Dirt Poor Robins's "The Raven Locks" album you can listen to solemn dream or solemn awakening to get an idea for what you are signing up for if you do that.
Mate... MATE... Just happened to me. My sister sent me a link on discord. No context whatsoever. Exact same reaction. When the strings came on I thought simply: Yes, I like this one. EXCEPT THAT WASN'T ALL THERE IS TO THIS SONG. Simply a thing of beauty.

Oh my god. I was searching for another song when I came across this, but screw that other song. This is quite possibly the best song I've heard in my entire life. How is this so damn good? Like how is this even possible?
The first time I heard this, I just laughed incredulously for the whole thing. I didn't know music like this was even possible. There is no aspect of life that deserves music this epic.
Oh, young love of mine She sleeps beneath the brine And oh the sound, the tick The weighty click of her heart against my spine Now the dark is nigh And she lays here at my side But like a steady squall Her arms they fall and her legs, they grasp me tight Oh, young love, young dear Why have you taken me in your fall? All of my love, all of my life Given to you, sacrificed Oh, my waking world I leave you for a girl Cast away into this blight Swimming blindly through the night Now my heart is bound Like a plague upon this sound And oh, it slips away, such soft decay Then it grows Oh, young love, young dear Why have you taken me from the fall? All of my love, and all of my life Given to you, sacrificed Stay clear of the wreckage She goes down, down, down And she burns like the sun And it all falls away Take your time and I'll take mine here today But it cuts like a knife And we're bound here as the night, it breaks away And it all goes down Oh, the sun! Oh, young love, young dear Why have you shaken me from the fall? All of my life, all of my days Given to you, cast away Here's to the war Here's to the night All of my love, sacrificed Soft and kind Cold as ice Hold yourself beneath the brine Smooth as wine Black as night Hold yourself beneath the brine
So I have a few theories on the meaning of this song. It’s about this guy who becomes so engrossed in this woman, who is battling her own inner demons, and I mean full on obsessed. “All of my life given to you sacrificed.” Like to the point where he ignores everyone else for her. But he doesn’t see the problems she faces. She is his “sun” after all. He shares everything with her, including all of his issues, and those only add to her turmoil, hence why she is falling “beneath the brine.” He may have an idea on what he’s doing, since he says to “stay clear of the wreckage, she goes down,” but the thought of freeing her to benefit her is too much. It’s akin to a ship lost at sea in a storm, where he is the storm and she the ship. “But it cuts like a knife and we’re bound,” is another example of him knowing what he’s doing. Now all of that could be flipped. She could be the one doing all of this harm, while he sees his tormentor through rose colored glasses. That might make more sense, but “hold yourself beneath the brine” will always bring me back to my first theory.
Bella Leonard Your theory just made me cry. I been listening to this song for hours now and its been hitting, and I couldn’t put my finger on why. I guess you just made me realize it.
