The last project is similar to how Mr. Potato head originally worked by using an actual potato to attach accessories to, so maybe not the worst idea for some fun for little kids while in the kitchen.
The vegetable toy thing is actually a great idea, that's how mr potato head started. Before they manufactured the fake potato bodies, it was just a box of parts you stabbed into a real potato.
