@mynameiscasanova93 yea its really a great bass. i really wish they continued making them. i understand that this is the adam clayton model of the darryl jones that did go into production shortly before adam clayton started endorsing warwick. the difference is the fretboard radius. apparently the dj model had a 7.25" radius and the AC model has an 10" radius.
@ntrn123 its a 2009, the "adam clayton model". he wanted a few made this way with the 11" radius fretboard and finish. i changed the pickups to aeros, they were stock laklands, but they sounded similar.
Just bought one of these Bass models. It sho nuff is nice. Can get lots of different sounds out of this thing and the set up was killer. Very easy to play.
@vzsozs yeah your right, but how many of those companies use fender pickup designs? warwick, fodera. carvin, etc. when it comes down to it, its about sound and playability. obviously the fender sound has set the standard and players who want an overall better bass go to these companies that make versions of fender designs. no matter what the design, if it has jazz bass pickups, the bass is gonna sound like a jazz bass.
So it's time for some Aeros. I'm currently using Delanos, very good pickups but it's just not the sound i love (you can check some of my live sound on youtube searching for "fred sun walk - why i sing the blues (sesc catanduva)", bass solo starts around 2:45). Thanks again!!
@vzsozs AFAIK copyright infringment occurs only if the shape of the basses are totally copied. if you pay attention, the shape of the body nor the shape of the headstock is equals to fender jazz.
@joerobot32 Yes, very true. Lakland, Sadowsky et al produce Fender designed instruments to a more refined, higher standard. I consider myself to be very lucky to own one of the original Lakland Darryl Jones bass models fitted with Aero's. It is certainly better than the 76 Fender jazz.I used to own. Such a shame Lakland no longer produce them. They may become collectable in years to come.
@MrHernybass Lakland no longer makes this bass. Its discontinued. But pre 2009, i believe they came stock with aeros, this one came with lakland pickups, but i switched em.
Thanks for posting this, man. Very well done and very helpful. These are Aero Instrument pickups? Amazing bridge pickup growl, just the sound i'm after. Let me know, please, the brand and model of the pickups. Congrats (and thanks in advance)!!!
@ColdForgedCopper Thats strange because in the USA, it is my understanding that public domain takes over 50 years after death. leo hasnt even been dead for twenty i dont think.
Let's be honest kats!! Yes the idea came from Fender but other companies have taken it new another level based on kats having their Fenders modified!! Yes there's nothing like the Fender sound but it's about demand and who can deliver it!! Take you guys back some years, Fenders' biggest threat was ESP!! Not only did their axes look just like Fenders', they had some more in sound and they didn't even cost 400.00 bucks!!! Qabid Hakim had an ESP jazz copy that wasoff the rack and was sick!!!
as low as you want it to be, just like any bass. it came set up pretty low, i had to adjust the truss rod, there was too much fret buzz in the lower register, i needed it a bit higher.
In my mind... this is the PERFECT jazz bass tone. It sounds great with both pickups full on, and really good with the back pickup solo'd. Can you let me know the specifics of how you recorded this? Did you go through a pre-amp?
I am also lucky enough to have a Lakland DJ with Aero's...best bass I have ever owned. They have stopped making them now - take my advice & dont ever sell it...people will be fighting over them in years to come. I have owned almost every type of bass including some good Fender vintage models...the Lakland DJ is better.
@vzsozs shouldnt the sound be taken into account? how many bass companies have invented there own sounds? not many, most are variations of fender designs regardless of body shape. victor wootens fodera still has fender pickup designs, and it sounds pretty much like a jazz bass, but the body shape is different, so what?
get educated. they are more than rip offs. in most players opinions, they are better than the original thing. also, there are features to each of these companies basses that distinguishes it from a fender. these copies are also a testament to leo fender's genius. in most cases these boutique-y copies are better built and use better materials than fender. Im not sure of the technicalities of the licensing, but obviously there isnt an issue, otherwise fender would have taken action by now.
Smooth tone and awesome grooves brother!! 🙌🏻🎸🎶
