Economics is not taught until college and then it isn't necessarily a required course. I know some very competent senior level women, many black, they are outstanding leaders. This young person is 18. He is void of critical thinking and appears not to have pride and confidence in his own blackness and in our intelligent black women. I used to think that everyone should vote. I worked hard to register people of all political persuasions. That opinion changed after 2016. And is cemented after 2024. Voting is for people who are informed. They don't have to be highly educated, but they have to be informed, with true facts and able to think critically.
Be careful you might get want you wish for. One of the lies that we comfortably believe is that “we the people” in the Constitution means every adult citizen. Nope it does not. At the time of the founding fathers the vote was restricted to white property owning males over 35 years of age. The age restrictions varied a little among the 13 original member states but all had one and in a couple of states white woman who owned property (invariably widows with sons under the age of majority in that state) had a vote. It took a couple centuries to get amendments allowing adults of both sexes and all races a vote. The relevance to today is that the right wing billionaire Peter Thiel openly wants the suffrage in the USA to be sharply restricted to property owners and at least over 25 years. That would ensure a permanent conservative government. Thiel like pretty much all the very rich is a Libertarian who is 100% against the state providing any sort of security net such as Medicare Medicaid, SS, unemployment payments. In fact the rich want a nation run on the Golden Rule which to them is not ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you “ but it is this “He who has the gold makes the rules” and it’s close corollary “he who has the gold is immune from any rules”. Musk was upfront in this campaign but it’s instructive to know that his main business partner (and who has been for decades) is Thiel. Musk openly talks of ending ‘red tape that strangles business’. What does he mean? Well he talks of how the EPA holds his rocket business back by demanding environmental assessments and how the NLRB and unions hold back his company (he has successfully been sued many times for his awful treatment of employees) and also how he hates the SEC which has repeatedly fined him for insider trading and now is investigating his own cyber currency Dogecoin which financial analysts say is a con that will shaft investors except Elon and Thiel who run it. So he wants the end of the EPA, the end of the NLRB and the banning of unions or at least the right of employers to prevent unionisation in their workforce, a massive reduction of the powers of oversight of the SEC and especially no oversight at all on cybercurrencies. I used to think that everyone should vote. I worked hard to register people of all political persuasions. That opinion changed after 2016. And is cemented after 2024. Voting is for people who are informed. They don't have to be highly educated, but they have to be informed, with true facts and able to think critically.
Be careful you might get want you wish for. One of the lies that we comfortably believe is that “we the people” in the Constitution means every adult citizen. Nope it does not.
At the time of the founding fathers the vote was restricted to white property owning males over 35 years of age. The age restrictions varied a little among the 13 original member states but all had one and in a couple of states white woman who owned property (invariably widows with sons under the age of majority in that state) had a vote.
It took a couple centuries to get amendments allowing adults of both sexes and all races a vote.
The relevance to today is that the right wing billionaire Peter Thiel openly wants the suffrage in the USA to be sharply restricted to property owners and at least over 25 years.
That would ensure a permanent conservative government.
Thiel like pretty much all the very rich is a Libertarian who is 100% against the state providing any sort of security net such as Medicare Medicaid, SS, unemployment payments. In fact the rich want a nation run on the Golden Rule which to them is not ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you “ but it is this “He who has the gold makes the rules” and it’s close corollary “he who has the gold is immune from any rules”.
Musk was upfront in this campaign but it’s instructive to know that his main business partner (and who has been for decades) is Thiel.
Musk openly talks of ending ‘red tape that strangles business’.

So he wants the end of the EPA, the end of the NLRB and the banning of unions or at least the right of employers to prevent unionisation in their workforce, a massive reduction of the powers of oversight of the SEC and especially no oversight at all on cybercurrencies.

I don’t get the sense that he disrespects his parents, I do clearly understand that he, like many other young people, has been pampered so much, and raised more by video games and Tik tok videos than sober challenges to think and analyze. We have a couple of generations now who have not received grandpa and grandma front porch, common sense, Golden Rule, know thyself, education.
Unfortunately it seems like the young man consumed misinformation and didnt seek the counsel of his parents before voting. This should be a wakeup call to those of use who know people who have not voted yet! Make sure you spread the truth and facts to everyone you can.

As a 58 yo white woman, I am appalled this young man would ever allow someone to speak down to or poorly of a black woman. Especially of Kamala Harris. She is the example all women should look toward. Education, Empathy, Compassion, Ambition, Responsible, and Honor is not defined by skin color or gender. Our parents saw to it that we contributed to the household by chores etc. even from being very young. We had obligations, alright. Parents need to make sure their kids understand stuff like obligations and consequences. Even as little kids we would have been ticked off by our parents for making stupid and half-baked assertions without evidence, on anything, not just things like politics and morals.
I respect that kid for being willing to talk about his views on the show, even as I am disgusted by his views.
Damn it, he should have been talking, reading, listening before he went and cast his vote to be stopped, searched, handcuffed, slammed to the concrete just for being a young black man. I have clients in an affluent area in Alabama. Only a few blacks attend schools there. They teach this Maga, women hating, racist crap in their schools and churches. I have seen it first hand. I don't know if integration was the best idea in the schools. Our kids are not being taught their history in these schools.
