Had to laugh when Al said when he tried to buy the watch. his credit card threw up! lol
His whole family used his credit card for everything they bought. So cheap Al ended up paying for everything! lol
I remember this episode. Peggy tried to chastise Al for not getting her a gift... Turns out he tried to but she had maxed out the credit card.
Peggy AND the kids maxed out the credit card. Funny how they seem to always forget that since Al is the only one with a job, the credit card and the bills are his problem. So really, she had bought him an expensive gift and hired a catered party with his own money... didn't much care for this episode, or how they tried to end it on a sweet note.

Actually, she wasn't all that bad during the 1st Season, but pretty much right off the bat, 2nd season, we saw the horror...

I like that the show was more grounded in the early seasons. They fell into the usual sitcom trap later on of turning everybody into a caricature and relying on more slapstick and outlandish humor.
Maybe you should make a sitcom that doesn’t fall into the usual trap?
Yes, I divide Married into two - the Steve years, when it was brilliant, and the Jefferson years when it went to much over the top.
To be honest, I prefer the more over the top seasons. But it's true, there is a notable difference.

Peggy is always horrendous but she *really* sunk to a new low in this episode. Guilt-tripping Al over not getting her a gift when her extravagant spending (as usual) was the cause - what a piece of work.
You cant completely blame Peggy. I mean, look at the type of person she is (and the kids). An entitled ignorant housewife who doesnt know the value of a dollar (and doesnt care) who thinks and demands her husband is made of money and has all of it in the world, to cough up at a moments notice.

Luke had the potential to be a spinoff character. They should have kept him for the first season and a half, and then gave him his own show.

I think the writers had a change of heart on who Peggy was after this first season, because she didn't even know when his birthday was later in the show, much less willing to buy him a power-tool set!
Yeah the first season was drastically different from later seasons. Peggy actually had food for Al and her Children in the first season. Whereas later on she barely even gave them M&Ms or Tang

Yeah in first season Peggy has quite nice personality. And Al behavior towards her was not so rude like in further seasons.
