I was booked for a test drive way back in March here in the UK……… it didn’t happen as the software had bricked the car while doing an update and the dealership never called me back when the car was repaired………… I did sit in the showroom car that was bricked and really liked it apart from there being no driver information screen or even the option (or standard fit) of a HUD as an alternative - and no version of the EX30 has that option. Went to the next door Mini dealership and leased a Mini Countryman S E Sport which was somewhat more expensive than the top trim EX30 but felt better assembled and while also not having a driver information screen or display as standard did have the option of a HUD on all but the basic version. I’m 5500 miles in and have done one road trip in it no problem at all despite its relatively small battery and 135kW charging speed, at least I got enough time to go to the restroom and get a coffee after 2 hours driving and 142 miles/ battery down from 100% to 50% - it took less than 20 minutes to get back from 50% to 80% which is fine for me who normally only charges overnight at home on a 7kW home charger. My road trip was 450 miles done at highway speed (70mph here in Scotland) + a little bit more on occassion on a very wet and windy long weekend and averaged 3.4miles/kWh for the round trip. I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing the same trip in my previous EV with a 28kWh battery as the same trip the year before I would have needed 5 charging stops to the 2 I needed in the Countryman. The previous year I did the trip in my 2023 D250 6cylinder 3.0ltr Land Rover Defender 90 and averaged 29 miles to the UK gallon at similar speeds but better weather. I mostly use the Countryman for 35-50 miles round trips to one of the nearest cities for shopping as I live in a tiny village out in the sticks. Between April delivery and October the Countryman averaged 4.6miles/KWh which isn’t bad for a car that runs dual motors all the time and wasn’t too far what I got in similar driving in the Cooper S E which was 5.1 m/kWh.
Thanks for sharing this data! That’s a great efficiency rating overall, I really wish we got cars like the Countryman SE. it looks well put together, as you said. I’m glad you were able to road trip it without any issues. Keep the numbers coming, I love the nerdy stats, and enjoy your Mini!
Nice get and overview Adam. We were at our Silver Spring Volvo dealer this week, and while they had the EX90, they said it would be ~6 months wait for the EX30.
Awesome to see that the EX30 is starting to arrive State side! The EX30 Cross Country is on my shortlist for my next EV, when/if it comes to the US. It looks to be small, but spacious, with good ground clearance and should hopefully make for a good weekend camper. I am also quite fond of the yellow.
I configured my EX30 Mid-November 2024, here in Washington, DC Ultra Twin Motor (Only shipping twin motors for now) Crystal White Mist Pixel/Nordico Dealer said could be end of January.
After the Fisker Fiasco, I now drive a 2025 Volvo XC90 PHEV and absolutely love it! Once my PTSD of owning an electric vehicle that didn’t work for more of the time that I owned than it did, I may reenter but for now, I’m happy with my PHEV.
The EX 30 looks great on the outside and I give them props for having a unique color and putting the charge port in the correct spot. It’s also a hot hatch in the twin motor trim with 422 hp which makes it unique for the size. The interior kills the deal for me as I’m not a minimalist person. I want an instrument cluster and real physical buttons. The EX 90 is beautiful in an understated way. But would not be my choice for a 3 row as we have some other good choices these days like the Ioniq 9, EV 9 and the ID Buzz.
I really appreciate the feedback. I like the value proposition of the EV9, for sure. I also like physical buttons, but the EX30 offers a really good amount of practicality for its size. Thanks for watching!
There's a lot to like about the EX30, but I just don't like the lack of a driver's display. A HUD would have been a good alternative, but without either, I'd really have to think long and hard before getting one of these. I despised this when I had a Model 3 and won't go back to that. Nice overview, thanks for posting this!
I'm disappointed that they decided to not have an instrument cluster. There are some Tesla characteristics that are good to imitate, but that's not one of them.
This was a car I have been following for a while and what I felt like was my replacement for my lovely Ocean. I have been in the subreddit for a while and this car has had a colorful history regarding the software. Shock. I think it was delayed in the US because of the problems it has had. I think the problem I have is the size may be too small, but still may take a look if it comes by my neighborhood.
The biggest hurdle for the US market was the 100% tariff on Chinese built cars. This caused a significant delay, as well as a pivot from Volvo. The original plan was to build all of these units in China. Thanks for the feedback!
Since I ditched any aspirations for the Fisker I have been following this Volvo especially comments from the FB EX30 group that consists of mostly European drivers since its introduction going on two years ago. The 2024 introduction has been replaced with minor changes on the 2025 model (production spring 2024). Looking forward to the upcoming 2026 enhancements slated for this spring as well as the European production that will hit the US. As a surprise, Volvo is releasing Chinese built 2024 Ultra AWD models to the US this fall. To date some software issues still need to be resolved. I am hoping they can increase the range as well as introduce additional colors. As of now I would opt for the Ultra trim, rear drive that currently prices out at $40,000.
Thanks for the video, Adam! 🤔 I like the colour of the Rivian R3 on the production-intent model. The 2025 Polestar 2 has some good choices of paint. I like yellow as an automobile colour, but on cars like roadsters, rather than SUVs. I’m concerned about auto detailing that you’d have to do, placing a ceramic coating on after buffing the paint finish, since paint coatings are invariably thin on EVs.(so I hear)
Im looking to replace my Polestar 2 because i hate yhe huge transmission tunnel and lack of space inside. I like almost everything else and this has many common components (like frameless side mirrors and the vertical center display). I love that it has so much space and well thought out storage in the front, but i do think the lack of any dedicated driver display is almost surely a non starter. I also don't want to wait 6 months, because i think the tax credit will be gone in the US after 20 Jan. Thanks for the video. I was very much looking forward to this car.
The EX30 looks be manufactured in Europe, as opposed to China originally. So, only a lease would allow a tax credit if it were to remain. But, like you, I think the tax credit will go away quickly. I like the lack of drivers display, but I’m not super stoked about the vertical instead of horizontal screen
Nice job Adam! Looks like a great car, especially if it's value priced. I would be interested in your thoughts about the Ioniq 6 since Car and Driver is ranking it above a Model 3.
Really torn on this car. I'm happy to see that you fit in the back seat. That's the biggest concern that I had even though it would be rarely used. I just wish the AWD didn't cost $6K extra. Makes the AWD version quite expensive compared to other AWD EVs. I love the size and efficiency,
It was developed before the NACS adoption by other manufacturers started. Due to the Tariffs the US imposed on China, the launch was pushed back by months.
I wanted to like these but the interior is mostly bleak. That pop-in sunshade on a $45k car!? I guess it’s small and AWD, so that’s unique for the US. And that yellow exterior. 😎
@@roaddiet well said. Not a lot going on in the interior. But small, electric and AWD is a combination that’s just not out there. I also really like the yellow.
I thot I read that the EX30 was a Chinese made vehicle that has a Volvo brand slapped on it to bypass US import restrictions of Chinese vehicles.....did you also find that to be true? I like Volvo, but I won't buy Chinese........
@@Aslash304 Right, which will probably significantly delay any US rollout. By then, I suspect many more options will surface to choose from, we'll see......cheers!

I was told the same. It’s a shame the tariff situation came to be when it did. It really hurt the EX30
Heat pump?
Yes, on the large battery pack, there’s a 69kWh NMC and a 51 kWh LFP pack.

Agreed on the lack of driver display or HUD. Disappointing to see other OEMs following Tesla on this.
Agree!
That was the reason to choose a fisker 😮

I agree with this entire comment. I was worried about the back seat, and I think the AWD model is too pricey.
If this is a new car for US, why CCS and not NACS?
It was developed before the NACS adoption by other manufacturers started. Due to the Tariffs the US imposed on China, the launch was pushed back by months.
Nice but too expensive, I prefer horizontal display of mode 3 than this , it's actually even more away from your sight than tesla.
I am curious as to the decision to go vertical with the display. Horizontal seems more ergonomic
How much does it cost? I like the vehicle, not the yellow color.
It will eventually have an MSRP under $40k, but the early examples will all be dual motor, with lots of options, around $45k
@Aslash304 Thanks. 45k is not bad for a higher end brand like Volvo.
