This is so fascinating. As a personal trainer you can also look at it as someone who has a hard time showing visible muscle no matter how much they work out, vs someone who has more visible muscle definition by just breathing in gym air (kidding of course lol). Thank you for explaining this!
Yessss! This is why it’s so important for people to know their body types/flesh types, because otherwise people can get to unhealthy levels trying to be angular when they aren’t (or vice versa). Theres more beauty and peace when accepting your type and totally owning it 💪🏻, and then you know the gym and getting fit/healthy is really for every BODY ☺️
interesting perspective. That's how I stopped exhausting myself in the gym, because no matter what I did, I just couldn't achieve that lean muscle look. I once worked out 3-4 times per week for a year, diligently, with a program and a diet, and would still have that boneless soft look, even though I left stronger. I gave up since and accepted my body and now exercice just for health benefits
I ve heard about kibbe system before yet your way of explaining makes it so clear. You’re sich a beautiful lady with so lovely warm energy. Just wonderful 🌸
Wow! You made me understand that I'm angular even though I'm curvy! You explained perfectly the feeling of "solid thickening, keeping the shape". It's as if by gaining weight instead of having soft fat somewhere, you become "thicker" all over. Thank you!
Yay! I’m so glad this was helpful ☺️. I gained weight in my early 20s for the first time in my life and I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t looking like my friends when they gained weight (they were soft) and that led me to years and years of learning and understanding THIS is exactly why - learned to love and accept that’s just my way of gaining weight and it’s equally beautiful ☺️
This makes so much sense to me, especially with the pillow analogy. Im a softer flesh and always wondered why structured clothes didnt look good on me. A flowy, softer skirt suits my body flesh so much better than a stiff and structured denim skirt.
Hi, Mylene! Interesting video. I'm an SN body type, so basically angular with some softness on top. The thinner I get, the more angular I look (even though my shape looks more like an hourglass), and my flesh is not soft, no matter how much weight I gain. I once was in a workshop with a friend who is a Romantic body type. We had to pat each other's arms and back as an exercise. I was shocked how soft and pillowy her flesh felt. And she was shocked at how solid I was. So yes, you're right.
Totally! It just feels different to the touch and it’s fascinating really ☺️. I just love all the variety in body types and flesh types is such a big part of that. Thanks for sharing!!
Wow! I am so impressed with this video- you explain things so clearly.. the pillow/box analogy and the visuals were so helpful. I also love how you reiterate the same concept using a lot of different words/terminology. I can't wait to watch more of your videos! Do you typically find that a person's softer or more angular body aligns with similar facial features, or is that not the case? Thank you for this video! I am going to binge watch your channel now🤗
I’m definitely more angular because I can gain muscle really quickly and don’t have much of a waist , broad shoulders ect. But I’ve never looked good in structured clothes ? Maybe it’s because I have natural essence? I really suit the boho styles , soft fabrics and need waist definition. I also have fleshy arms and hip dips. I thought maybe I was a Soft Natural? Would that make sense ? I love your content. It’s so good and you are really easy to listen to and you always look beautiful. I’m a soft autumn as well so your outfits give me ideas. X
Its interesting! I guess im in the middle, or at least i think i am. When you mention the thickness and softness of skin and how it lays on the bone, it seems like im soft. But, when you mention the way my weight expands me equally over my entire body, from face to toes, thats more of what happens to me when i gain and lose weight. my round face and soft shoulders makes it seem im soft. I also have a reverse triangle body shape, and ppl think i work out when i don't, lol--. I have a slight waist curve/tapper, but not as much as others that i know have soft skin.
Great video! I think your explanation and visual aids really helped me recognize softness and angularity in the body. I'd love to see a video about how this relates to the body types. I like the color combination of your top and scarf btw c:
I think I'm not an obvious "soft", because I'm round but not very curvy. As a former competition athlete, I've always struggled with losing body fat and gaining muscle definition. I just get more muscular and broad, but soft flesh still covers everything everywhere, even in places like in the back, hands and feet. I think I'm probably a soft Gamine, like Simone Biles or Katelyn ohashi. So my advice is maybe don't exclude yourself as a soft flesh person even if you don't look like Selena Gomez or Nicola Coughlan.
100%! This is geared more towards the extreme sides of the spectrum, but you’re absolutely right. There’s a lot happening in between the two! I’ll explain this in further videos ☺️. Thanks for watching!
Would love a more detailed video on how this video works for the body types. Im angular for sure. I struggled if I was a pure dramatic although I’m only 5’5, so I am guessing a dramatic classic. I can tell very obviously when I am not at my ideal weight compared to my softer friends. their weight doesn’t seem to be as noticeable in a way, I just become a rectangle and in contrasts my angles so harshly.
Absolutely! I’ll do a video on it because it seems it’ll help people for sure ☺️ Yes same here! It becomes incredibly noticeable the moment I gain weight because normally I’m very bony looking. Just becomes a different type of angularity at that point - still beautiful, just different ☺️
Thank you this was super helpful! The only confusion I have is that I have a very bony upper body (arms, chest have no fat) but actually have a waist and quite soft hourglass hips.. I guess I can tailor it for each part but feels like I’m missing something! Is this something that can happen?
Yes! This was helpful! Thank you! I’d also be interested to hear more how this relates to different body types. I think I am SC (still testing it out) but I feel like I gain weight everywhere, maybe the stomach shows it first. And I don’t know, maybe that’s because I have had two pregnancies in my life.
I definitely have taught skin while being very curved. On Facebook, people said I was Soft Dramatic. I just know that I am lean and curvy. I think I have to choose a heavier, but flowy fabric with good seaming/waist darts, etc. Because stiff fabrics sag at my waist and light fabrics like chiffon look bad on my shoulders although OK on my hips and behind. When I gain weight I tend to keep my waist, but my thighs and hips and lower tummy get poochy.
Yes! Super common for any of the Classics to feel this way with sorta the two types in different areas. Which is one of the reasons why Classics (any subtype) looks good in structure of some kind. Thanks for watching!! ☺️
I think this is pretty tricky. An angular type can look softer just because they’re at a higher bmi. I’ve been both very fleshy and less fleshy and I suit angular clothes best no matter my weight. I’m also quite curvy, so figuring out my body type has been challenging due to loose skin and such.
Nice video I like your point about soft and stiff fabrics, and how they work with your frame. But you said silk is a drapey fabric. While this can be true, silk is a fiber, not a fabric. Silk can be satin, chiffon, jersey, etcetera. But for instance a silk taffeta would be a stiff fabric. There is also a point of compromise between your face and body. Your face essence might not match your body essence perfectly. Then you must make a balance between the two for a harmonious look. I think I have ethereal essence. I am petite, a lot of dressing tips are for extending your line. This seems like it would be great for a dramatic classic, or natural type. Extending you line wouldn't necessarily work for a petite gamine with ethereal. And then I feel like Kibbe doesn't use the word petite as a physical height cut off but more as do you look short. So I am a bit lost in figuring out my body type. I don't have extreme curves. I have some softness and some angles, I feel a bit like a soft rectangle. And then I am left wondering if I even care. I clearly dress for my ethereal face and the rest seems to work for my body. So while I am petite in height I don't resonate with gamine. I am leaning towards natural but I feel like my ethereal essence is confusing me as to my body type.
Yes extremely possible! Does sound a bit like a Soft Dramatic (but can’t be 100% sure just off a description). But you can check out my video on it and try out the lines and see how you feel in them ☺️ th-cam.com/video/EVLDY_3K7zE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6QhVUiHcAzLBeFwZ
Great question! They are still more soft than angular! Their dominant trait is soft with some angularity. So you lead with softness and add in some angularity (like with sharp lines: v-necks, slight structure, defined shoulders). I explain it all in my Soft Dramatic video too ☺️
@@myleneameliethis is misinformation as per kibbe. SD is a dramatic first with a romantic undercurrent. So the softer aspect is secondary even though some soft dramatics can appear very fleshy and soft.
I am 5'2" tall. With the exception of size 40C-D boobs that ARE pillowy, the rest of my flesh sits more taut on my body. My back is not fleshy. My thighs are not fleshy. I do have hip curves, but not a lot of padding on my rear. I have fairly large bones/strong build for a small woman. So am i angular or soft? What body type would look like mine?
Generally speaking you want to focus on the overall impression, if you’re overwhelmingly angular with a little bit of softness then you’re more angular than soft. So focus on angular shapes/materials where you are angular & accommodate your soft areas with softness/drapery. I’m sorry but I can’t assume a body type based on a description alone - there’s so much that goes into an analysis ☺️. But asking the right questions is such a good place to start, you got this 👏🏻
Christ, pretty bleak and depressing if you are angular: Puffy, bloated, boxy, tough, rectangular. Versus plush, comforting, soft, velvety. Tired of this.
I disagree! I love my angular body type, it has its own beauty ☺️, it’s tough, elegant and statuesque! It’s just different from Soft bodies, who are equally beautiful in their own ways 🩷. The pain comes when we try and compare one to another, or try and see one as better or worse - when in reality every single body type is valid, beautiful and has things that compliment it perfectly! I hope one day you see your own beauty ☺️
@myleneamelie I think what they're saying is that you chose those harsher words in the video when talking about angularity, but chose those kinder words when talking about softness. They didn't come up with those words - they're just parroting back what you said in your video. To me, & I may be wrong, it seems like you played up softness & played down angularity because you didn't want to sound offensive when talking about the curviness. You tip toed a lot around weight issues in the video like you wanted to make sure you didn't conflate curvy -> fat -> undesirable. But in trying to make sure you weren't correlating softness to fatness, you swung the pendulum the other way when talking about angularity. So it seemed like you were being overcautiously sweet to the softies & a less careful to the angulars, because you didn't feel the need to walk on eggshells around them as much. I'm not hating - I just found your channel today & adore you! Im going to watch more videos! I think the internet is a tough place, & I hope I'm not adding to that right now. I say this as someone with my own [unrelated] channel where people can get offended over anything. I think the antidote is actually braining less & putting less pressure on yourself to tip toe & walk on eggshells. Just kindly tell it like it is for both & keep it moving. 😅 You're awesome!
Definitely not what I am saying! Thin can be soft or angular, same with weight gain (can be soft or angular). It’s more what is more dominant - your bone structure or your flesh? If your bone structure is more dominant you’ll likely have thinner more taut looking skin (when you’re at a lower or higher weight, doesn’t matter) and your bones dictate how you look as you gain or lose weight. If you’re fresh dominant (soft), it means your flesh is softer to the touch & look and THAT will determine the way you appear & your overall shape as you lose or gain weight. We all technically have both, just have one more dominant than the other (or sometimes a fairly good mix of the two).
