I kinda miss having a small makeup bag with one of each makeup item and not repurchasing until I was completely out. Now I have a very big overwhelming collection, that I can’t seem to let go of 😂
Same here! I bought a lot of eyeshadow palettes and lip products in 2018 and 2019 and barely wore them during the pandemic. Now I had to throw them out because they were expired. What a waste of money!
Same! When I see a friend travel with one small bag of makeup I’m jealous of the simplicity and no fuss approach (as I show up with a train case full of makeup). Lol!
I completely agree. I used to be a makeup artist and when I was working on beauty counters I would get people open up their makeup bag and show the 99% finished blush and ask for a similar colour. It was a need for them and I just loved how they consumed makeup- because seriously things like blush and highlighters have such subtle differences!! 🤣 and I came home to a whole overflowing drawer of JUST blushers! 🤣
I’m not a TH-camr, but, I have a large collection. I do love makeup and I do watch a lot of beauty TH-cam. I definitely have more high end, but still plenty of drugstore. Before I ever discovered TH-cam, I still scoured magazines for makeup, and bought makeup at Macy’s, and bought tons of Mary Kay, like everything they had, lol.
Before TH-cam there were magazines. At the beginning of each season I would get a copy of Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Mademoiselle and look to see what the "colors" are for the season. Then it was off to Macy's to look at the new collections for that season. I had some drugstore makeup since the department store make up was a bit pricey for my pocketbook, but I did go to the department store for my Clinique products when there was free gift. This was all before I started going cruelty free.
Yes! Exactly what I used to do. I used my babysitting money to buy department store makeup because I could try it on first. Every time I bought drugstore makeup the color looked bad on me, lol.
You are so down-to-earth and relatable. I admire how you keep your collection curated, even as a TH-camr. And I just realized I comment on pretty much every video, but I like sending positive vibes. 🌞
I've done theater since I was barely old enough to wear makeup, and in fact, learned to do makeup through doing theater. Because I am mostly doing community theater, where they don't often have a budget for makeup, I have always had a pretty large collection because of the different characters I might be called on to create on my face. My collection definitely got bigger when I found beauty TH-cam, though, which was when lockdown started and I didn't know when I would be able to get back onstage. In less than 2 years I went from being able to store my stuff (except palettes) in a large shoe box, and now I need a huge drawer. And that is my limit, and theaters are opening up again, so my hoard is slowly dwindling, thank goodness.
I have alot of elf too!! I used to use alot of dior lol no more its mainly drugstore! One of the reasons I love your channel! I see all the others with makeup I could never afford! So I appreciate that you show us stuff thats as good as high end but drugstore prices!!
Honestly the most basic underrated eyeshadow palette to me, to this day is lorac unzziped palette. That is my fav of all times!! Thats what I would keep if I only could choose one
Before I discovered TH-cam, I was a very heavy and early-adopter Pinterest user (2011-2016?). There were always a lot of e.l.f. and NYX products being touted as dupes, particularly for Nars and MAC (two brands that USED to not test on animals...). I would have L'Oreal lipsticks and Benefit Dallas, and always a CoverGirl pressed powder on hand.
I guess I need to be a TH-camr, because my collection is insane! I’ve been into makeup for 25 years (since I was 13), long before the emergence of the “TH-cam makeup guru”, where most people wore drugstore makeup, and “high end” meant Lancome or Mary Kay. The Hoi Polloi wore Maybelline, Cover Girl, and Revlon. If you were younger and in a tighter budget, you wore Wet n’ Wild, Jane, or Streetwear (Revlon’s defunct answer to Urban Decay). If you were young and high end, you got actual Urban Decay from the mall, no internet, no Sephora. Thanks to several subscription boxes, my collection has grown exponentially. I often joke that I have enough makeup for the rest of my life. Sometimes I feel a little guilty, but I love my makeup and skincare hoard.
My favorite lipstick from Jane was a brown one called "Choco-Lots" which smelled like chocolate pudding. I either wore that or Mary Kay Downtown Brown on my first date with my husband in January 2001. I went through so many brown lipsticks!🤦♀
I would say I have a relatively small collection of makeup compared to a lot of people who watch makeup youtube videos (3 foundations, 7 palettes. 6 blushes, 4 bronzers, rtc.) But if I didn't ever get into WATCHING makeup youtube I would definitely only have like elf and Maybelline products for sure and probably only one of each product.
I love bronzers and mascaras! I used to have a big problem buying mascaras because I wanted to try them... and they were on sale. I'm down to 5 now. I love bronzers so much! My favorites so far are the Butter Bronzer and the newer Colourpop bronzer in Avila Beach. It's so pretty and smooth. Love your videos. They are always nice to watch.
As a non make up influencer, I don’t own a ton of make up products, but several blushes and bronzers. My biggest weakness when it comes to make up for sure.
I'm actually a one bottle of foundation at a time girl. Lol. I have a good mix of drugstore/high end. It depends. I have a smallish collection, but a long wish list. Lol. I watch so much beauty youtube too. 😊
I have a lot of makeup even not being a youtube creator. I have little fun account on IG however 10 year ago I've was the same as you. All face products used until it will finish, eye product 1 quad from Rimmel and then urban decay naked2, few single shadows and that's about it. I think perspective is changing when we can afford to buy something more luxurious. This days I have my low buy and allowing myself buy only things which are unique to my collection. Very good video in my opinion. You gave me another reason to re think my habits and maybe love more what I own.
Your recommendation for the milani silky matte a long time ago changed my bronzer game. I hated bronzer because they looked orange on my skin tone until I tried it! Thank you for that!!!
Great video. Makes me think of questions I wonder about people who watch beauty videos. (I always wonder how I compare to other people who love beauty. I don’t think I’m very excessive, but compared to my friends/family, they think I’m excessive.) 1. How many days a week do you put on makeup? 2. How long does it take you to do your typical day makeup? 3. How many makeup products do you own? 4. How many skincare products do you own? 4. How many times a year do you go shopping for beauty products (makeup/skincare)? 5. If you had to estimate, how much do you think you spend a year on beauty products (makeup/skincare)? 6. How many beauty YTrs do you watch on a regular basis? 7. How many hours a week do you spend watching beauty YTrs? (My answers: 1. 5 days, 2. 20 min, 3. 49 products 4. 17 products 5. Approx $500 6. Approx 10-15 7. Approx 5-7 hours).
I consider myself a minimalist when it comes to foundations lol. My go to foundations are... LM tinted moisturizer, Nars SG, Essence PN, & L'Oreal TM Lumi. I am 50 and still trying to find my 5th every day foundation.
I think it would be an interesting balance to wonder what your collection would look like if you were a beauty youtube viewer, but not a content creator. Because in a way this kind of video wouldn't be realistic, as you became part of the community as a viewer before being a creator and wouldn't have the same kind of collection as a regular consumer (which is what this video is about, if you were a regular consumer). What things you would have bought based on reviews of others, or the hype, if you weren't recieving PR or getting things for review? Is there a category you would have more, less? A category that would be bigger or smaller than you have now? A brand you think you wouldn't have tried without getting it in PR or to review? What category would fit with the regular consumer? Is there a palette you decluttered that you think you'd still have if your collection didn't grow as it does?
Before I got into TH-cam I would buy the trendy products from magazines and what my mom liked. Mainly Covergirl and Maybelline with splurges on Clinique, BareMinerals, and Lancome. I outright panned several shades in Lorac and original UD Naked palettes. Definitely didn't own bronzer or highlight and minimal brow products.
I have to point out that Nyx is not completely cruelty free because his parent company is L'Oreal (which is also the parent company of Garnier and Maybelline)
I’ve spoken before about my thoughts on parent companies. I have a few videos explaining my cruelty-free journey if you want to hear more! Personally, I consider brands CF even if their parent company is not but I understand that others may feel differently. Also, as of recently, Garnier actually is cruelty-free!
So youtube is the reason we own so much makeup judging by all the comments! Still mad I didnt get that pumpkin spice palette several years ago! Every time I see it I want it. I actually bought the newest one that just came out strictly because of the fomo I had not getting the first one. It doesn't have the color story variation but I do love the warmth of the shadows. Before I was bouncing around several palettes to balance a warm look but I like how its all in one place for me now :)
I have a pretty big collection compared to my friends, I like to try things and then declutter once or twice a year, I now have 7 blushes and 4 highlighters (that a lot of times double as eyeshadow because I'm not as big on eyeshadow) and my lip products have exploded from a whopping 3 or 4 to 31!!! 😅 Before TH-cam I was a Covergirl, Wet-n-Wild, Elf and L'oreal person and my high end stuff came from Mary Kay, Bareminerals and Clinique. I'm working my way down to keeping everything in one makeup bag like I had 10 yrs ago but it's so tough!!! I love Makeup 😁
I don't even have this video in 1080p and it looks so clear! I don't know if this is something you adjusted on your end, but it looks like I'm sitting right in front of you lol! So high quality.
I had a full desk full of makeup, which is ridiculous because I wore it 5-6 times a month. Before my child I cut it down by 1/3 and still have 30+ pallets and full drawers of makeup. I have a baby and no time for makeup. I’ve had a successful makeup no but year and am hoping that maybe when the kid is older I can get back into wearing it.
I guess before TH-cam even my collection would be smaller because it’s easy to get sucked in to buying what you see. I still say I had more than my friends. It was mostly drugstore ( lots of the WNW eyeshadow trios) but I had a lot of Mary Kay and Avon too.
I think you really got to the very point in this video when talking about Too Faced. You would own some products, you would like them more or less but you wouldn‘t really know better. I still feel like this, even though I watch a lot of beauty youtubers, but I don‘t buy or test a lot myself. 😃 I think I would own some basics, mostly drugstore (foundation, concealer, powder, something for the eyebrows, maybe one or two cheek products, a few lipsticks and mascara) and a few extra products „for special occasion“ like black and colourful eyeliner, one bigger eyeshadow palette for variety and something fancy that I would never use - I look at you Meteorites from Guerlain that I have since 2013 🤣
My entire makeup collection just 5 years ago was 4 items. A powder foundation, a liquid black eyeliner, a red lipstick, and a mascara. And they were ALL from the drugstore. It's wild to think how little I had.
Hey there, Kelly!! I hope you're doing fantastic!! I loved this video!! I adore you, and your content is soooo relatable to me!! I have been using drugstore since I was 14, and allowed to wear makeup. I still wear mostly drugstore. What do you think of doing a video, asking your subscribers, what their makeup bags would look like, if they hadn't ever started watching You Tube? What would the products be, and what brands. Just a thought...🤔 Have a wonderful day!! ❤️
If I had never gone down the rabit hole of youtube beauty I'd probably primarily own Urban Decay, Tarte, and Morphe. I asked friends on Facebook to tell me their favorites. I may have still been swayed by Ulta or Sephora beauty reps to try some other products though if I had just gone in store. I ended up watching youtube though because of Katie Enos from Senegence. I bought a ton a cream to powder shadows from Senegence. When they all went bad a year later I learned about powder palettes and started searching youtube to learn more. Here we are. If I hadn't been so disappointed that the cream shadows went off I might just be using Senegence pretty exclusively.
I wonder if all the people commenting they have a large makeup collection realize that most of those makeup products are expired. So many women come to me and don’t realize that old makeup does make you break out. Clean makeup only last less than a year and the normal makeup is a year! I’ll allow a few eyeshadows to stay in collection but face products toss!
That’s a great question! I don’t think I would have known as much about it if I wasn’t involved in the beauty space. Consequently, I’m not sure that I would have!
I think that even if you weren’t be on TH-cam you would still buy a lot of make up, because you would watch TH-cam beautiful videos. I am not on TH-cam, and I still have like five different foundations, and a lot of eyeshadow palettes, and other products that I probably don’t need just because I’m watching beauty videos, and always want to try something that I see is being promoted on TH-cam. 😉
Anyone who read this I would like you to share your own makeup collection and goals as I'm doing down below. I am not a content creator so let's go with "How much makeup I would have if I wasn't obsessed with it" • Lipsticks. I had 230+ , I currently have 90+ I would like to keep around 20+ but I really love the ones I have now. • Eyeshadow palettes I had at one point 180+ I am at 36 now! I would like to have like 5 but honestly the ones I've kept are all different and I love them too much, I have pressed myself to declutter at least one and I can not. • Blushes I had around 50+ and now I am at 30. I would like to have 3-5. • Highlighters I had 40+ and now I have 20-22. I would like to have about 3-4. • 11 face powders I would like to have 3. • 6 eye primers and 5 face primers. I want 2 of each. • 2 concealers one of them works great as a foundation, 1 powder foundation and and that's how I want them to stay, I barely use any. • 11 eyebrow pencils and brow gels. I don't mind these because they are backups and they will last me years. I open 2 at a time. The pencils that have to be sharpened I use at home and the ones that don't I leave for travelling. • 11 bronzers and one would be more than enough. I am trying to sell 5 of them. • 8 mascaras I don't mind for the same reason as brow products.
I'm a be honest I never even knew there was a Sephora or Ulta until I started get subscription boxes 5-6 yrs ago (I no longer do) I only knew Walgreens and Walmart make-up fr. Now I have 16 eye shadow palettes and don't even wear it smh also gifted 50 (I had a subscription box addiction for 2 years) now I just get what I need when I run low. Like 5-15 dollar tinted moisturizers (I use to make my own with moisturizer/sunscreen and foundation when I was younger cause I didn't know about tinted moisturizers) and never bought a concealer until this year in my life (L'Oreal age perfect and then the nyx, both to light smh lol) I wear tinted moisturizer mascara blush or bronzer lip liner and gloss when I do wear makeup
I'm only a mini TH-camr, and I wouldn't own more then a bag worth of I didn't find TH-cam, I wore powder, liner and mascara prior to 2017 ... now I own Way too much. fun video
If I hadn’t started watching beauty content on TH-cam I would probably have similar to what I had before, mostly Clinique and a couple drugstore things like L’Oréal mascara and physicians formula powder products. We finally started getting more makeup brands here around the time I started watching TH-cam, it was a big deal when elf & nyx came and then Sephora opened! I probably would have bought whatever the workers recommended to me (too face back then lol)
I was a single foundation, blush, mascara used it until finished. Due to you influencers I have branched out into several options. But still not over the top.
Kelly you forgot eyeliner, mascara, and brow products! But otherwise love this video and I’m the same, can’t contain myself with eyeshadows and lip products
So I know you said they weren’t exciting and you’d have one generic but I’d still love to know what that 1 product is that you have, maybe like your fav can’t live without mascara and eyeliner etc if you just had to choose one and weren’t on TH-cam.
I saw another comment with this idea, but could you do this video, except if you quit TH-cam right now, and with all your knowledge, what would be your collection?
Wow, I did not use powder until 2 years ago with the masks mandates... Also, the pandemic made me discover cruelty free makeup which is mostly affordable and I dropped expensive brands :)
I was thinking that you know when you say that if you wasn't a youtuber you wouldn't have this much makeup, does this mean pre TH-cam you didn't have a huge passion/desire to try new makeup. I assumed that usually people with a channel have a huge interest in makeup pre youtube and are so are buying a lot anyway and then start a channel. The people I know that dont have a channel still have a lot of makeup- because they enjoy trying new things... Just a thought 🤔.
@@KellyGooch absolutely 💯! Yh passion is the wrong word but you would still have more than the regular makeup wearer is what I meant. And to add I find your constant reminder to consume/purchase less very refreshing!
I kinda miss having a small makeup bag with one of each makeup item and not repurchasing until I was completely out. Now I have a very big overwhelming collection, that I can’t seem to let go of 😂
I feel that way sometimes too haha
Same!
Same here! I bought a lot of eyeshadow palettes and lip products in 2018 and 2019 and barely wore them during the pandemic. Now I had to throw them out because they were expired. What a waste of money!

Hahah I did a HUGE declutter and my sons girlfriend asked if I was a content creator...no just obsessed 🤣🤣
Lol.. I am embarrassed to show some people all the makeup I own.. I have no business owning all this for just an average consumer..
I’ve always had a pretty large collection but I like seeing what you would have if you weren’t on TH-cam. Super interesting. 💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻

You’ve become a huge influence in my decision to purchase from cruelty free brands!
That's pretty cool that you did this in way where you tried to keep in mind what brands you'd be aware of.
Honestly the most basic underrated eyeshadow palette to me, to this day is lorac unzziped palette. That is my fav of all times!! Thats what I would keep if I only could choose one

The elf bite sized palettes are really good. I wish they came out with more varieties. They are probably one of the best travel quads.
omg yes this like a thorough answer the my q/a question. i love it

@divamaglia I truly miss downtown brown. It was such an awesome lipstick shade. Thanks for reminding me of it and it's pretty pink case. 💗
I love the tarte juice lips, I used to not but they grew on me 😍
I find that my most used lip products are the ones I can reapply without a mirror

Smashbox has introduced MORE shades of the highlighter.
Before I realllly got into makeup, back in 2015. I thought Bare Minerals was the pinnacle of makeup lol
Your recommendation for the milani silky matte a long time ago changed my bronzer game. I hated bronzer because they looked orange on my skin tone until I tried it! Thank you for that!!!
Yay! I’m so happy that you love it!
I thought for sure you would’ve mentioned the Elf Flawless Satin foundation and a Profusion eyeshadow palette. ❤️
I would love to see this video with a twist. If you were to quit YT right now what makeup would you keep for your everyday life :) Love your videos 🥰
Love your eye look. Looks great and very flattering
I would still like to know your 'generic' eye products! I'm curious & it won't be boring!
Great video. Makes me think of questions I wonder about people who watch beauty videos. (I always wonder how I compare to other people who love beauty. Kelly I love a lot of the drugstore items you talked about today. Esp the nyx lip ones

It’s in my cart right now!
Kelly, you are so close to 100K! You go girl! 🧡
I always have to laugh a little at these videos as I sit and watch them next to my 10 drawers full of makeup while not being a youtuber LOL
I guess before TH-cam even my collection would be smaller because it’s easy to get sucked in to buying what you see. I still say I had more than my friends. It was mostly drugstore ( lots of the WNW eyeshadow trios) but I had a lot of Mary Kay and Avon too.
As a non-influencer, I have a lot more makeup than I would like because I'm unable to find my "perfect ________ " without trying a bunch.
Literally not only TH-camrs have big collections. Some people don’t get anything sent and have huge collections all purchased by themselves.
Yes for sure :)
I always loved makeup. I was a "1981 in the girls' bathroom melting my eyeliner with a lighter" kind of person.
This was fun to watch!
I am just waiting for the day you decide to pan the milani blush HAHAH
Oooh maybe I should!
@@KellyGooch Go for it!!!
Kelly what is your favorite drugstore liquid blush if I'm deciding between Revolution and Nyx?
Before I found beauty TH-cam bare minerals foundation was the only high end thing I had 😂
I’m not a real TH-camr for makeup and I have a massive collection!! 🤷🏻♀️
Nothing wrong with that!
Do you think you’d have gone cruelty free even if you weren’t on TH-cam/in beauty spaces?
I am not a content creator so let's go with "How much makeup I would have if I wasn't obsessed with it"
• Lipsticks.
I love these kinds of videos
What shade do you have in the elf halo glow and the bare minerals powder foundation?
I was a single foundation, blush, mascara used it until finished.
Due to you influencers I have branched out into several options.
But still not over the top.
I have a little more drugstore than high end. Don't get me wrong I love my higher end product to, I just love makeup on a
budget more.
You so close to 💯,000!
Before TH-cam, Allure magazine got me because it was all about makeup, versus the others (Vogue, Mademoiselle, Glamour).
Wow, I did not use powder until 2 years ago with the masks mandates... Also, the pandemic made me discover cruelty free makeup which is mostly affordable and I dropped expensive brands :)
What about mascara?!?! Did I miss that part?!?!
WIt bec a Wait Becca is no longer around?
They’re owned by smashbox now. Who knows if they’ll decide keep all the popular items around.
Having a passion for makeup is not the equivalent of purchasing every new launch :)
@@KellyGooch absolutely 💯! Yh passion is the wrong word but you would still have more than the regular makeup wearer is what I meant. And to add I find your constant reminder to consume/purchase less very refreshing!
I enjoy luxury and high end makeup but I’ll never buy an expensive eyebrow pencil. That’s my drug store product.
I was waiting for mascara😢
❤❤❤
Before TH-cam I used Mary Kay and any random drug store products
i wouldn’t consider charlotte tilbury luxury. it’s high end. luxury would be like chanel, dior, cle de peau etc.
