If you do enough damage the enemy team has to back up, you have to do LESS healing overall since there is less resources being put into your team. If they look at you and not your tank, your tank is not dying. Your DPS can peek a bit wider, it is a better experience all around.

8:34 no matter how many times a doom or bastion ults, they always fall for the fake afk. I do it all the time on echo and it's such a fun way to counter their ults 😂
I think the heal botting only worked in those ranks because the players are so bad at survivability. They literally rely on heals to do anything because no fundamentals, so when you dont heal bot your team die more
The avg player will look at this and say "but you can only play like that because you have good mechanics" - and they would be right! But more crucially, the fact that they're right just highlights that they are simply not mechanically adept enough to effectively rank up, but with this playstyle now they're at least aware of it, unlike healbotting where you never actually have to confront your real issues and shortcomings as a player. You can hold M1 in the general direction of your team as Kiri all you want, there won't be a difference between a bronze and a gm in that regard. Takes no skill. And because it takes no skill, it also doesn't punish you for bad plays, whereas if you're playing with Awkward's approach then you either hit your shots or you don't. There's no grey zone of thinking you're better than you are. The avg player thinks they're way better than they are, and they're afraid to apply playstyles that forces them to confront their true weaknesses, because then they'd actually have to do work to rank up, rather than just blame their team and throw a fit on reddit.
fr, i try aggressive playstyles and fail cause of aim, but i mean what other way to improve than to fail first? the only thing is, when i play widow i usually do good but i have off-days, including today, and it sucks 😭 i wish i knew how to not have off days
13:00 i seriously hate players like this sombra where they could easily go and grab a health pack (in this case she literally could have hacked the mini and healed herself). they think im not aware of them but they dont realize that im just ignoring them because its not my job to top them off when there are more important things to be doing lol
even ml7 has said he has had a higher win rate by healing this season because of the dps passive he made a similar video by playing every support and seeing what works
Bro have you ever heard of a RANK GAP you are playing against plats, don't get me wrong I understand why you teach what you teach but In high rank lobbies are you still going to risk your life as a support for an off-angle knowing that they have a genji wich can basically delete you and I'm talking about Zenyata/ana here who doesn't really have an escape ability
I recently started playing overwatch. around the same time i found your videos. They all helped me a ton, especially with my fundamentals. i have 24 hrs in comp. I have so far gotten to plat 2 on tank, plat 2 on Dmg and Gold 1 on Support. i dont have much games on support tho so i should be able to get that up soon! Thanks for the great videos.
one of the problems with damaging more in lower ranks is that your team will die bcs they take way more dmg than higher rank tanks/dps so you're kinda forced to heal bot in lower ranks
Bro an average player can't hit 90% headshots tho I get what you mean buy they'll be giving more value to healbotting by not flanking and getting melted for missing 3 headshots in a row every time.
the only thing is idk how/when to engage and when to stop. when i go on flanks as kiri or zen, everyone looks at me and im forced to suzu or tp out (or trans as zen), so i have less time off-angling. ofc survivability is good, im really good at disengaging, but sometimes i disengage too much even when smth is winnable and end up losing cause i ran away
@TamWam_ that just comes down to experience once you do it alot and look at why it worked and why it didn't you start to become more consistent and notice I said consistent not perfect its not going to work out 100% or even 80% but 50% - 60% is good enough to rank up and than that percentage will go higher as you get better.
I'm gonna be honest, with all this "dmg dmg dmg" and "sure you might not hit the same shots that I do" I'd be genuinely interested in something like bap or ana unranked to gm with a controller (since ow on pc has no aim assist afaik), sure the fundamentals are important and positioning is important too, but sometimes I genuinely feel like some matches you pop off so hard it's unreasonable for anyone to get to that level without dedicating to the game religiously like a full time job (last zen video for example). From my point of view I watch a lot of people stuck in metal ranks playing similarly to what awkward says, I didn't know he was that popular before this tbh, yet he still believes in "the reason you're in gold is because of your fundamentals", and I genuinely wonder how do these people apply these things pretty decently in matches yet seem stuck or just really miserable stats compared to awkward. (And I know, they might have some flaws, or some part of the fundamentals are not being applied correctly or whatever might be the nitpick, that's exactly why I'm interested in awkward, supposedly perfect fundamentals guy, to do this) I don't play the game myself, just recently caught some interest, and I like what awkward says about it, but at some point he HAS to take into account the amount of damage you are able to feasably replicate yourself, the pressure on the enemy team awkward puts out is actually something I barely see anywhere else, trying to hit shots is better than doing nothing but at what point is mechanical skill actually more important than fundamentals?
@@FeverBonus I find these fun to watch, and a ton of the tactics that some of these streamers talk about sound a lot like JRPG playthroughs, kind of interesting to hear them say something, then completely make it happen as if it was turn based and already planned the turns. However I feel like he always talks about the methods but never the execution, it's like saying "walk" to a baby, they might've seen someone walk before, they probably understand what needs to happen, but the baby is not exactly as "talented" to just start walking without dedicating a year to learn how to, and even then it won't be able to walk for long or even run. I used to see overwatch here and there before 2 was released, but it was always like competitions with very technical commentary, so it was very hard to follow and eventually stopped seeing it, it appeared on my feed again one day, a video from a guy explaining the new 5v5 formula, and putting into simple "strategy" type of speech, so I kinda kept watching, then character guides that explained how to play as group, what works/doesn't, it felt completely different than watching a competitive stream with no commentary, so I got drawn into it. I started playing the game actually few days after this comment, I don't take it as seriously as these streamers, so I'm not exactly tryharding the concepts they talk about and honestly I still don't know what I'm doing most of the time because it can get a bit overwhelming at times so much stuff going on, but I keep them in mind, I still stand by my desire for him to completely hinder his mechanical skill, I watch from time to time and he pops off so hard some rounds and then shrugs it off as "a blind monkey with no arms can do this".
Your conclusions are 100% accurate. I play on controller and I mainly play support. This video popped up on my YT feed and after watching it my level of play has taken a massive hit. I literally have not won a match since watching this video. Gonna go back to my heal "botting" next time I play. I'm plat so players are decent. If I take an off angle, 2 or 3 players collapse on me when I start putting on dmg. I will usually just die or have to peel back and leave my team to a 4v5 with half the heals as the other team, unless I hit all my shots AND 70%+ of them have to be headshots (which is nearly impossible on controller).
It's a misleading video and I should've realized what you realized before trying it. Plus the other thing people don't realize is this is literally a pro player smurfing lobbies full of 20-30 year olds who play a few hours per week just to chill after a long day of work. This level of play is quite literally unachievable for 99.999...% of people on the entire planet. My suspicion is that this was deliberately designed to trick kids/teens into thinking they need to pay for his course to be good at a game that most people play for fun.
I appreciate that you posted that 2nd game as it was and not trying to cover up anything. People will use whatever excuse they have on why they arent climbing. Its never their fault, so they cant comprehend what you're saying is true for climbing.
TH-cam decided to recommend your videos even though I haven't touched OW since season 3 or 4 of OW1. I decided to install it again and go a few rounds of casual play, and by god is it a mess. I win maybe 20% and the other 80% are absolute blowouts where we cant even get out of spawn or touch the first point. I don't know if that's just a casual thing or what, but it was rough
Great video idea. I’d recommend next time you do such a video, switch between how the average support plays to how you play at the halfway point of a game. So that it’s easier to tell how you to switch up our gameplay in real time.
On a graph of mechanical and game skill against value, playing damage has a steeper gradient but healbotting has high initial value but a slow gradient. There's a limit to the value you can get while just healbotting, which is not how you climb. Can't deny healbotting is easy and gives value so it's no surprise people rely on it when they feel the pressure.
I think you have to read the situation, the vast majority of times it is viable to prioritize playing a more aggressive role and other times continue and trust your team by giving them healing before going more aggressive. but you have to read the environment and act according to the situation
awkward being more active on youtube is really nice. tbh i haven’t played overwatch sinceeee season 5? Here are some tips on how to play lw in plat: use pull as soon as you get it, the main purpose of it is to heal, and occasionally save people IF fate dictates and you have it off CD when you need it to save someone, oh and let's not forget using pull if someone is diving you and ulting you to secure a double kill for the enemy or just pulling to throw the game because you decided it's time to play defensively while sitting in narnia. Your petal is solely used to hinder your dps's aim and nothing else. The petal should be used off CD as well and is always thrown right below your DPS or tank for no good reason at all. Your needles? We don't know what that is I don't think they even exist. Your ult is used either defensively when the team is pushing, ergo does not benefit the team, or aggressively in a lost team fight to keep the tank up after your entire team died. Hope this helps. ♥PS: no I am not making this up, this is based on real experience.

I am happy in gold and i dropped here, because healbotting is tougher in the current patch. But it's fine, i just play to have fun, can't play this game like a job or i'll get depressive.
Until the enemy team has a support with the amount of dmg the tank has. Good luck winning if your team misses the 20% dmg it could've had. What Awkward shows here, is he does in fact heal, but he does not go braindead healbotting when he can also do dmg to kill the enemy team faster. If you want healbotting, go Mercy lol
what i get most from this in a way is how these two 'playstyles' have actually collapsed, in the game. you don't have as much choice in terms of what you do and when you do it, as a player. the game tells you and your only 'freedom' is to ignore that and lose.
I have found the contrast between the average player and a better player to be extremely helpful. Can you do this with DPS? I have not seen a video like gold tactics vs better tactics before.
Last night I had a support game where I got 12k DMG while playing my favorite Moira. I died way too much and kept pressing the attack when I shouldn't, but I was pretty proud of myself haha.

8:34 no matter how many times a doom or bastion ults, they always fall for the fake afk. I do it all the time on echo and it's such a fun way to counter their ults 😂
I think the heal botting only worked in those ranks because the players are so bad at survivability. They literally rely on heals to do anything because no fundamentals, so when you dont heal bot your team die more
The avg player will look at this and say "but you can only play like that because you have good mechanics"
- and they would be right!
"Who did the sojourn focus the entire team? me" Well yes, you are the healer...
but since soj was turned around chasing kiri, his team could walk up and kill soj
Peeps might actually use the lost and win as you doing the wrong thing 😂
it is funny tho how he won doing healbot and lost even after carrying

Dat lucio lmaaao talk about fragile ego man xD
first 2 games show sometimes you still loose no matter how hard you try
even ml7 has said he has had a higher win rate by healing this season because of the dps passive he made a similar video by playing every support and seeing what works
He has when he played zen against ow streamers and high elo players
I recently started playing overwatch. around the same time i found your videos. They all helped me a ton, especially with my fundamentals. i have 24 hrs in comp. I have so far gotten to plat 2 on tank, plat 2 on Dmg and Gold 1 on Support. i dont have much games on support tho so i should be able to get that up soon! Thanks for the great videos.
Don’t be discouraged by your rank, although it is below average for sure, watching awkward videos will help you climb as it did with me!
3:18 are we not gonna talk about how smooth that transition was
one of the problems with damaging more in lower ranks is that your team will die bcs they take way more dmg than higher rank tanks/dps so you're kinda forced to heal bot in lower ranks
Love the way you ended the video linking to real life stuff and instilling positive vibes! Rock on🎉
27:05 that genji hahahaha and the ash right afterwards was hilarious XD wtf is going on~
Bro an average player can't hit 90% headshots tho I get what you mean buy they'll be giving more value to healbotting by not flanking and getting melted for missing 3 headshots in a row every time.
Except that's not how you get better, they won't hit 100% of their shots if they don't even try to shoot.
the only thing is idk how/when to engage and when to stop. when i go on flanks as kiri or zen, everyone looks at me and im forced to suzu or tp out (or trans as zen), so i have less time off-angling. ofc survivability is good, im really good at disengaging, but sometimes i disengage too much even when smth is winnable and end up losing cause i ran away
(And I know, they might have some flaws, or some part of the fundamentals are not being applied correctly or whatever might be the nitpick, that's exactly why I'm interested in awkward, supposedly perfect fundamentals guy, to do this)
I don't play the game myself, just recently caught some interest, and I like what awkward says about it, but at some point he HAS to take into account the amount of damage you are able to feasably replicate yourself, the pressure on the enemy team awkward puts out is actually something I barely see anywhere else, trying to hit shots is better than doing nothing but at what point is mechanical skill actually more important than fundamentals?
You're really well informed for someone who doesn't play the game! What drew you to this content? Why don't you play yourself?
Awkward's way for Moira *IS* the average way, 2/3, your Moira is gonna be a DPS Moira with the occasional healing.
As someone once said, "No matter how much you heal a trash player, he's still trash"
at this days , its really hard to do dmg, because even if you heal , your tank can't get enough heal .
would you be willing to do a controller challenge awkward with your usual style
Average matchmaking experience
13:15 The average player experience LMAO.
Great video idea. I’d recommend next time you do such a video, switch between how the average support plays to how you play at the halfway point of a game. So that it’s easier to tell how you to switch up our gameplay in real time.
omg yes that’d be so sick
Awkward talks about YOU off-angling, but what do you do when you are the one who is off-angled?
Take the 1:1 if in range, otherwise duck behind the cover that's right next to you
On a graph of mechanical and game skill against value, playing damage has a steeper gradient but healbotting has high initial value but a slow gradient. There's a limit to the value you can get while just healbotting, which is not how you climb. Can't deny healbotting is easy and gives value so it's no surprise people rely on it when they feel the pressure.
Bro awkward is actually kinda funny the way he puts things in perspective 😂

I think you have to read the situation, the vast majority of times it is viable to prioritize playing a more aggressive role and other times continue and trust your team by giving them healing before going more aggressive. but you have to read the environment and act according to the situation
"Using window for the team..."
awkward being more active on youtube is really nice. tbh i haven’t played overwatch sinceeee season 5? (or whenever they added illari) also I PLAYED ON SWITCH. i got pretty into comp but i didn’t stay due to nintendo switch online’s capabilities. yet i’ve been watching awkward ever since then, and this recent bump of content is really hitting! much love bro

39:25 "why do we win ?"
Because i played like a top500 player in a plat lobby, while otherwise trying to play like a caricature of a plat player.
I love the content, but plats and golds don't have the gamesense, awareness or aim to do what you do.
But your "how i play" moments are propably helpful for non-metals. I am happy in gold and i dropped here, because healbotting is tougher in the current patch.
But it's fine, i just play to have fun, can't play this game like a job or i'll get depressive.
healing support is because they can't hit the enemy~
This video is basically just do the opposite of what you think you’re supposed to be doing lol
The dps passive makes healbotting more effective since one missed heal will kill your team
I'd argue the average Moira doesn't know how to heal lol
I have found the contrast between the average player and a better player to be extremely helpful. Can you do this with DPS? I have not seen a video like gold tactics vs better tactics before.

Correlation doesn’t mean causation.
You still have much more control over a match where you're being proactive and doing damage. The healbot game he only won because he was lucky his team wasn't complete garbage. You could have the highest healing in the world but damage gets kills, and kills are how you win
