The light seals in any film camera stop the light from seeping into the film chamber. If light leaks in then you get that spray of light on the edges and across the photos. Some people like that look as they are hipsters and think that is all retro and cool. I don't mind it but I prefer to control that in post digitally, so fixing the light seals is best for old camera.
The foam around the door and hinges is gunky and old and needs to be scraped away and replaced with new foam. You can buy it on ebay with the sticky 3M on the back or just glue some old foam laying around the house yourself. Best to get the pre laser cut ones on ebay as trying to cut it yourself is hard as it is only 2mm width and near impossible to get straight.
Anyway. Jerry makes a bit of an appearance so if anyone got bored and is thinking to themselves how hard can this shit be Rob...
I did learn a few things. Maybe you too... DO NOT SHAKE compressed Air-In-A-Can spraycans... DOH!

I replaced light seals myself a number of times but still learned something from this video so, thanks a lot Roberto. Happy shooting with this wonderful little camera!

Bit rough but hopefully it does the trick. Feels good to tinker with stuff.. makes the experience more real.. 😄

a tip I've seen for the grooves on the body (not the door), is to take black cotton yarn, split the thread until its the right thickness and stuff it in there with a tiny dab of glue at either end and let tension do the rest of the work. ... however on this camera, the only spot that needs that is at the bottom of where the film case rests - I cleaned a bunch of degrading foam out of mine there, so will be adding a seal there for myself.

Yes. I did that actually because the foam stuck out a bit and the door didn't close that well. That foam is hard to get just right

Haha nice one Rob, good to see Jerry helping, she certainly knows more than I do about film cameras🙂it's been bloody hot over here so I'm sort of wishing for some of your cooler weather, although when we get it we'll be moaning about that. Look forward to your results from the camera

Well done Roberto, I admire your patience. Pleased to see that it worked eventually, I'll wait for your next photo-walk with the 'new' camera.
I still can't decide if Jerry is your assistant or the foremen!

This video reminded me that I bought a film camera last year and need to take it out to finish the roll. This video also explains what all the bits of black shit I was seeing was lol.

OK, so I learned one thing today, don’t try to do what Roberto did🤣I couldn’t read the label on the can, but here in the states WD-40 is kerosene used to loosen rusty bolts and nuts. I love Jerry’s face looking at you and thinking, who is he talking to? I’m looking forward to your photos with that camera. Be well and stay safe.

I was wondering if you could do me a huge favour? I recently tried my hand at repairing the rangefinder on my RC which had become stuck, unfortunately in the process the wires that connect the rangefinder section broke off and i didn't have any pictures to show which wires went were, would you be able to send me pictures or a video showing where abouts the ends of the wires attach too? particularly a short red one which unfortuantely diconnected on both ends. I sent it to a camera repair shop but they don't have any reference or schematics to know where the wires go either. Could you send me some pictures of the the internals of your RC so that I can see where the wires need to be reattached?

I dont want to open anymore cameras 😪.. i just broke my om1 and yashica 35 this week.. doh.. im scared to play around anymore. I really have no idea and keep stuffing things up.. sorry.. i did some searching there is a red wire that goes to lens and RF in this video. See if that helps. th-cam.com/video/qEudUeZkdj4/w-d-xo.html

@@robdido that's okay, I totally understand, especially as it was me opening my camera that was the reason it broke too! Thanks for the helpful video!
