Helldivers 2 is also incredibly flawed, and after 50 hours it gets really boring. It’s just a generic PvE co op experience, they should add PvP but won’t. The buzz around hd2 and palworlds shows us that creativity and innovation is dead in modern gaming.
@@REALMARCHINADERSorry, but I don't see the word 'Halo' in front of 'Helldivers 2' my guy, so I'm not expecting it to be a Halo game like I would from something that calls itself *Halo* 4. What a fucking stupid and worthless argument.
Gold as always. Excited for the trilogy. And you're right about indifference: as someone who has loved the franchise since the beginning, i've pretty much moved on from the hopes that a new Halo title will be great.
The indifference point really hits home. This is the most logical and fair video I've seen about Halo Infinite. Halo as a franchise is becoming increasingly niche. We shouldn't settle for mediocre, we should always encourage excellence.
But we aren’t doing that. Nobody is here for that. Nobody here likes what Halo has become or could become, based on what I’ve read here in the comments, everyone hates modern Halo and only orbits it to encourage 343’s death as revenge for them committing a perceived heinous transgression against them they will never let go.
@@jakespacepiratee3740eh… lots of us love Halo Infinite. 🤷 what we don’t love is how long it took to get to where it is, and the game population lost due time that, plus the game population that will never return in future games after two failed games launches (h5 and infinite).
@@jakespacepiratee3740 Yes exactly, Halo is niche, those who care/understand the flaws with infinite are also niche. As he states in the video, the cultural perception of halo is that of indifference. For as many players who like infinite, there are just as many who like 5. The game has lost its identity. In the age of modern gaming most people's attention is on other games. Halo has lost the core of what made it special. And while infinite is a now playable and content full game (only because forge made community maps and game modes.) it still lacks the foundation of what makes a genuinely timeless game. He argues that infinite should not or ever be the building blocks for the franchise. While yes a large portion of the community rips on 343i constantly, they don't fundamentally address the issues at hand, and in turn many halo fans have given up and accept halo for what it now is. Thus, an overall indifference, instead of a resounding accord. I look forward to his next video.
Those who currently defend Halo, 343, and the vision of Halo Infinite argue that Halo is, fundamentally niche and that Halo was only great due to a lack of competition.
Halo has been under 343's control longer than Bungie's, and what the fuck do we have to show for it? One poor remaster of an original game, one mediocre game, one bastardisation of the originals that took half a decade to fix, one terrible game, a decent RTS, and one mid game who's only redeeming quality is being more faithful to the originals than the previous entries, and an absolute dogshit TV show? Fuck's sake, all those "Halo Killers" from the early '00s have nothing on 343i themselves
I feel like Halo and I switched lives as I've grown. It used to be my pillar of light, the only consistently good thing in my shitty childhood. But now that I've grown and become a better and healthier person, Halo has taken on the neglect and abuse I got growing up. It really breaks my heart. Halo used to be so great.
I want to thank 343i and Microsoft for removing the progression system so they could change 20 bucks for an armor set. And for not implementing player collision because their donkey doodoo engine “can’t handle it”
This right here is EXACTLY why I barely play Infinite anymore. I hop on maybe 20 minutes a day or so just to play a match of firefight. There's no progression so there's no reason to play the game anymore aside from the barebones "icon change" which is just as bad as "number go up". The fact that you can't earn ANYTHING unless you get to Max level is insulting, as was the fact that they gave 0 retrospective XP when they finally managed to release the career rank system. Seeing all the hard work that the art team puts in just get shoveled into the store and charged for outrageous prices makes me sad for the future of Halo. So many people buy from the store that nothing is ever going to change. The next game will be exactly the same, so idk if I'll even stick around
Just to add clarification to your statement. Every time 343i has used the "engine too poop, cant do co-op" argument. It has been a fact-proven lie. They said it for cross-core and now all of a sudden cross-core is in the game. They said it for collision and there are multiple builds with it working fine. They said it for co-op/split screen and a week later people modded it back into the game. And a week after that 343i permanently patched that mod capability out. And the worst one of all is they said it for the FREAKING GAME MODES at launch. They are the ones to blame for Halo's failures. Plain and simple. Microsoft and management had a play in it tanking due to their failure to manage the quality and content roadmap.
@@haloboy817 LOL I completely forgot about that. "Yeah we can't do split screen cuz reason" then some modders set up 4 player split screen. That alone should have made everyone turn away.
@@Badhero4 There is a lot of things I could list but I forgot most of them at this point because the core fanbase that they should have appeased has all left. Even if there are 10k active players at this moment that is completely pathetic in comparison to the competition. Microsoft let a flagship IP burn to the ground in a slow death. Failed to take the franchise to the new heights it deserved. And all we got were broken promises.
Super pumped about the series Favyn! Gameplay discussion is obviously going to be huge but I hope you touch on the world thematics a bit too. Halo leadership for the past decade has been way too obsessed with both Master Chief and Spartans IVs (e.g. player as a spartan) to massive detriment to the worldbuilding of the game. Tons of missed opportunities to explore other characters like S2s, S3s, elites, and regular humans.
I unironically think Chief should go back to being a mostly silent vessel for the player who very occasionally says something really cool and memorable, while other characters are developed.

@@deriznohappehquite I agree, as bittersweet as it may be. I do think there’s a temptation when it comes to fans of long-standing franchises like Halo to want to somehow reproduce the experiences of our most formative years, which is always a doomed endeavour. Simply because we are different people who experience the world completely different than how we did when we were 8 or 12 years old. We can never go back to that. There is of course much valid criticism to be made, but I get the in that this is the reason there’s a lot of bitterness than tends orbit the fandoms old franchises. People expecting to relive the most precious moments of their youth, and being disappointed when that impossible standard fails to be met. That’s not why I’m saying what I’m saying tho. I genuinely just think the Chief of Halo 1 - 3 was cooler. I’m matured enough now to recognize that liking something for simply being “cool” is a good enough reason to like it, even if it isn’t particularly deep or complex.
@@50centpb7 I disagree completely. Just remaking shit exactly the way it was, but taking advantage of newer technology in a few ways is severely underrated. The people who said “CoD is the same game every year” just hated CoD. (In their defense, CoD multiplayer was always trash, and the move to BR turned it into an actually decent game). Halo was actually a good game. Halo only continued after Halo 3 due to popular (market) demand. The original creators wanted to end the franchise and move on. They should use the classic formula. Innovation is for non-cash cow franchises.
@@deriznohappehquite I’m not disagreeing with you, we both basically want the same thing and all I want from Halo is a good game to play. All I’m saying is that even if that game was perfect and did everything I wanted, it still wouldn’t reproduce those experiences of my early childhood. Nothing ever could.
This is literally the perfect way of putting it. Halo Infinite is not Halo's future like everyone (at least everyone in my friend group) thinks it is. It's just another failed project by 343 who can't seem to figure out what makes Halo Halo.
One of the biggest issues that killed this game for me is the lack of middle ground. You either play the same 5 maps in ranked and sweat hard or you play maps designed to be casual in game types that are incredibly unbalanced. The part that made halo halo to me is the ability to play how you want and still have fun. This game tried to be everything to everyone and fell flat. I’m an onyx player and I miss the old halo feel where you could queue with friends of varying skill and have fun. Those days are over. We have a game marketed to both casuals and sweats and neither majority is having much fun anymore.
Almost like there needs to be more than one ranked playlist, where you still have roughly the same settings as Ranked Arena, but it's slightly geared down (only slightly) to provide a unique fun experience that is still moderately competitive, but is just slightly lower stakes than the current Ranked Arena, but with still a rank on the line. "We have a game marketed to both casuals and sweats and neither majority is having much fun anymore." This is a problem; Not that it's marketed to both, but that we assume it is. If 85% of the game, or 18 total playlists, are geared toward a "Casual" audience , with only 1 permanent ranked playlist ('the sweaty playlist') and one rotational playlist (the also sweaty playlist but on horrible maps with unbalanced weapons applied), they aren't really gearing toward "sweats" for marketing or gameplay. I'd argue there's almost no other place for a general FPS player to play Halo outside of Ranked Arena, and then a potentially "community map montage" of the rotational ranked playlist. Although I say this as I still question why on Earth did the Social team decide to keep sprint and clamber in the Halo 3 playlist when optional variations of appropriately scaled Halo 3 maps exist in Halo Infinite. It's beyond me why they truly invest so much time into a "community" that doesn't even exist inside of the game they tailor it to.
17:13 This is the concept that fanboys unfortunately never really seem to grasp. Its actively harmful to the community when you push back against criticism for the sole reason of you not wanting your sacred cow criticized. You aren't actually defending any feature you value and want to see preserved, you just want to defend the status quo because you don’t want to believe that there's anything wrong with the thing you enjoy. If you have low standards, just admit it and stay out of these type of conversations. You'll spare yourself the headache of being confronted with things that'll make you enjoy your thing less, and you'll avoid actively preventing quality control by gatekeeping legitimate criticism for literally no reason.
On some level I DO get it. For them it’s not just about consuming a product they enjoy. Participating in and feeling apart of the larger community surrounding that product is as much apart of the experience for them, and to some extent people like us are ruining it for them by saturating the discourse with so much criticism and discontent. It’s the “fandom” mindset.
I moved on from this geriatric franchise. Halo has no future. Either expand the meta where you get new weapons and a new ttk where headshots on shielded opponents does more damage than the torso or limb, or embrace Xbox selling the IP so Halo gets expanded like Warhammer 40K. Fans do not like these conversations. So I tell them, Halo will die. More people care about the fucking tv show than the games. Dead franchise.
@@50centpb7 I call this the “cargo cult” fandom. For them, it’s not about the media, it’s about the community it facilitates. They don’t really engage with the source material much. If the media that forms the core of the fandom turns bad, like Disney Star Wars or 343i Halo, the cargo cult doesn’t care because they are fans of the fandom. Only when the fandom stops producing content and facilitating community for them do they get upset, and then they get mad at the core fans, not the handling of the source material. They’re like the cargo cults in the Pacific War. They don’t know why the planes started coming and bringing cargo. They just know that they did. When the planes stopped, they didn’t know why.
@@BigGainer98 People often have these ideas about gameplay changes that would make Halo more relevant, but I feel like we should try making an actual Halo game using the core Halo formula, and not completely fucking it up before we decide how Halo needs to change.
@@deriznohappehquiteThis franchise has no future. The classic fans rightfully moved on because the IP has been a joke since 2011. Making another classic inspired Halo will not bring back old fans. The shit is over. It needs to expand to other genres. Mmo, rpg, third person like we saw from the mac world demo. Something interesting. Something new. The fps genre is having a ton of shake ups at the indie level, with arenas emerging. How the Hell would Halo possibly return to form after 3 failed games, a collection that is still broken after a fucking decade, and it's old audience gone?
I feel like the big problem 343 has and it’s literally so apparent, is that they don’t know what Halo should be. Look at 4 it built off Halo reach in the ways you could pick your load out before you spawned. Halo 5 just said fuck all that and put everything on your spartan at all times. Then Halo Infinite is like lets sort of try to mix Halo 5 and Halo 3 together. While i do personally think equipment is the best option for a fourth pillar to the gameplay loop , we should’ve started there first. Because that would’ve made the most sense for a sequel to Halo 3. I also think you make a great point about people that just like everything and would enjoy the classic formula as well, because lets be real most of these kids don’t have any backbone and would rather go with the crowd anyways. So if everyone is having fun they’re going to jump in as well. I think the biggest thing Halo has to offer though is the amount of content it could have day one with all the modes and features we’ve come to know and love over the years with the classic titles. But 343 has consistently failed to capitalize on its potential. Then the post launch content is just getting what we were looking forward to at launch but had to wait for post launch. It’s really hard to look forward to the future of Halo with any sort of positive outlook because this should’ve never happened with how much feedback you and the rest of the community gave them back in the Halo 5 days. They had every answer they have ever needed to get this right day one and still felt like they could go another way with it, and get away with it. But we’re the meddling kids getting in their way lol. Idk it’s just weird to me how a developer can literally ignore its core fanbase that made the franchise so popular in the first place, to try and appeal to a broader audience, when they already had that to begin with because they were taking over something that already had a pre existing fanbase.
Even Reach didn't have customizable loadouts outside of custom games. Only Invasion and Firefight had you spawn with different weapons, which made both gamemodes feel distinct. 343 went full COD with the loadouts, and the MP suffered greatly from that angle. 343 has been corrupt since day one.
i hope at some point in your essays you talk about movement inertia and momentum. i don't recall if you ever did but 343 changing acceleration and deceleration to be near instant is such a subtle change that dramatically changed engagements for the worse imo, it made playing on PC (especially early on) a nightmare with people stutter-stepping everywhere
I have talked about it a decent amount but never in a full video. My most recent discussion of this was in my upload from about a month ago called "the casual vs competitive conundrum"
Agreed, I can't stand these silly dance offs. The argument that it allows you to reverse gunfights is stupid, you SHOULD be punished for someone managing to get first 3 shots on you.
@@jackcolson4745 is there really a "skill" involved in waggling your left stick or mashing A D back and forth randomly like you're having a seizure or is this just cope
The insight into Halo's mechanics presented on this channel has quite a lot of explanative power and I think it's really valuable. It would be pretty cool if another video was made, this time discussing the rumors of the Halo 1 remake on UE5 which is reportedly going to have the "advanced mobility" mechanics of Infinite
I feel like the vision has gotten better, but the execution keeps getting worse. Infinite was an actual attempt to make something approximating a Halo game. It wasn’t a Titanfall wannabe or a CoD wannabe. It also happened to be a complete failure at attempting to make a Halo game.
I support this due to the fact that the Halo cycle is a psyop gaslight to make 343i defenders seem vindicated. It didn't take 11 years for Halo 2 "hater" to stop "complaining about the Arbiter". People will always hate the 343i games and the only people who won't are those who played/grew up with them first. Just like how the Star Wars prequels suddenly became popular around the same time they became 20 years old, lmao.
@@bigdaddynero Yeah, Halo Infinite having a catastrophic launch in no way vindicates the awful creative decisions made in Halo 4 and 5, nor Halo 5’s own barebones launch.
Bring back the 1-50 ranking system. That was what made Halo 2 and 3 really stand out! It was such an addicting ranking mechanic that encouraged grinding and rewarded you incrementally!
Because it wasn't a skill rating system. That's why it was so rewarding, because it was a progression system. Halo infinite's ranking system is a more accurate measure of skill than the 1-50 system was.
Yeah, I remember being in that honeymoon period during Infinite's launch, but these days I rarely ever touch the game. If I'm playing Halo, it's usually MCC customs or mods. The annoying thing about Infinite is that it does do a lot of things that I like, and I'm worried that they're gonna backtrack on too many things for the next game. Like people love fusion coil throwing, but I can see it being cut just like assassinations and dual-wielding were. I want to hope that the new leadership know what they're doing, but I'm worried that they take the wrong lessons from Infinite's failure. Looking forward to that trilogy of videos. Maybe after it's done, people will stop using the "you just want Halo 3 again" phrase that they use as a lame defense for not wanting to go back to the classic formula.
The fact you even have to worry about things like this shows how little faith people have in 343 as a company. You can’t just trust their judgment enough to parse criticism of their game overall from things they actually did right and should expand on. We can never just stop ourselves and be like “nah wait, they’re adults. They’ve got this”.
Very excited for your future vids. You're honestly the only Halo TH-camr I still watch, and I really appreciate that you have stayed true to your own thoughts and opinions.

I know you've touched on it before, but I'd love a dedicated video on how you would design a Halo sandbox, going in detail on specific weapons. You've mentioned before in several videos that you believe in designing a sandbox around a utility weapon, and even touched on how you would design your Halo pistol when comparing to Halo 5's and Infinite. I think the best way to describe my dream new Halo game would be a spiritual successor to Halo 3. I feel like 343 were using Halo Reach as the baseline for their projects since Halo 4, that was a huge mistake. Halo Reach to many people was an experimental spinoff, whilst the original trilogy remained the flagship of the franchise, being the most “Halo” Halo games. If 343 had used Halo 3 as their template from the very start, I believe we would of had much different, much better sequels than what we have now.
interestingly alpha builds of halo 4 used halo 3 as a basis, theres an old demo video of early promethean knights being basically forerunner bakugan that transformed into balls and rolled around, with the player using the halo 3 hud and viewmodel and presumably the same physics too
They used Halo 3 though. Look at the alpha builds. The issue is that 343 followed trends with each installment. The games still use the ttk from H3 where two melee hits is a kill, and similar ttk for a perfect. Halo gameplay is stale and CE and 2 hold up far better.
@@BigGainer98 I disagree. I think Halo 3 holds up just as well as 2 and CE, if not better due to how well balanced the game is. I still love 2 for it’s huge skill discrepancy and gun feel, but for me, 3 has a much more complete sandbox and much more refined gunplay. Regardless, even if they did use Halo 3 as a literal template, they weren’t interested in keeping much of the gameplay philosophy.
My big issue is TH-cam channels like Mint Blitz making seven videos of a terrible update with the title “ Halo has just changed forever” then end it with how 343 is going in the right direction for ever instead of actually being truthful about how they feel. The whole community is terrible now.
I hope you bring up visual hud clutter in one of those videos. Himarkers being redundant with shield flair, "+100 for kills" while getting a red hitmarker and kill feed and whatever medal you got because you get a medal for anything now. So much HUD redundant clutter, it cheapens the look of the gameplay.
All the "virtual simulation" crap like capping flag explosions, the power weapon and equipment indicators fed to you that people still somehow ignore.... I wish I could turn off everyone else's shitty skins, and effects.
You crystallized everything I have been thinking about the current state of halo in a way I could not figure out how to express. Well done, looking forward to your trilogy. Subscribed!
I think the Apex Legends reflects what an attractive evolution Halo could've looked like, and to me is the spiritual successor of Halo. Shield and health system, easy to understand and start playing (low skill floor) but also unbelievably high skill ceiling (on MnK especially). It even implemented movement in a way that isn't frustrating like it is in Halo.
Apex Legends feels so well-designed, it takes the best parts of the best console shooters and combines them into a single playstyle. The only reason I don't play Apex is because I hate battle royales.
@@johnes2337 Yep, for that same reason I actually spend a lot of my time in the mixtape playlist on Apex, which is a rotation of TDM, control and gun run (don't play the latter). It has other major issues, but the fundamental mechanics make it the most fun I've had on any game ever, with the exception of Halo 1-3 (maybe).
I feel like the best Halo movement/basic Spartan abilities would be having the Halo 3 floaty feel, set everyone to the same max speed, have a dash that works like Doom’s dash and you can only do it on the ground and lets say you can do it twice before cooldown, and assassinations. That’s it, NO SPRINT.
The reason 343 won’t remove sprint is because philosophically it represents *their* version of Halo. To remove Sprint would be like admitting at the end of it all, after a decade of confidence & denial that the old halo fans were right. So they would rather dilute the ability to pretty much irrelevance than to just flat-out remove it. Ironically, I feel like if they did officially announce removing sprint - it would have the same effect as bringing back the og artstyle. *Thunderous applause* THAT’s how you get the general audience back on your side (those who checked out for years) it would symbolize an end to the previous dark age and a new era returning to classic formulas and new reason to be interested.
Well sprint was the cause of bigger map design. An example is Midship from Halo 2 compared to Halo 5 which completely changed the gameplay. However, Infinite maps are not affected by sprint since its speed is minor. However, to say a small speed boost is useless is subjective. Many players in Counterstike switch to their knife for a small speed boost in competitive. Being able to get into position faster or avoiding bullets can change the outcome of a gunfight.
15:12 how people don’t see this is beyond me. Then again, there are actually modern fans who support the tv show (go fuck yourself if you do btw), so it isn’t surprising, unfortunately. I remember when Halo was the highest quality, most popular franchise in the industry. And the tens of millions of fans had insanely high standards. Good times.
There comes a point where reboots have diminishing returns. Think about it- every single 343 game was essentially a reboot. Halo 4, 5, and Infinite. All trying to change it cover up the narrative flaws of the previous. Besides not being able to commit to gameplay mechanics, 343 can’t write or commit to a story.
@@Blanktester685 bc everything that was setup in 4 - the Didact, Jul Mdama, and the Spartan Ops fireteam -is either ignored or resolved in the first level so that we can focus on a 2 new Spartan teams and the new story. Basically besides Cortana halo 4 has no relevance to Halo 5
Taking a break from being on youtube as often and coming back to see three Favyn videos for me to watch is a miracle and a half. Great to see you back man.
And when we needed him most, he vanished. EDIT: These next videos have been at the back of my mind for the past month. I'm mostly compelled to see what you'll make because you're so intimate with both sides of this coin, the Halo debate. If only you and C3Sabertooth made Halo together. We'd get something truer to form than even something the OG Bungie devs were capable of. Passion is born from those (People who ought to make Halo) who obsess over artistic INTENTION and respect towards what came before and seeded by those (Bungie) who had a clear vision. I guarantee you that not a single soul at 343i frequented the forums as a middle schooler back in 2007 or read all the books pre-2010 or had legit LAN parties back in 2001-2005. The stains that work at 343 lack the very most important aspect that is required to inherit an IP. It's unconditional love and adherence for the pure essence of what they're working on. 343i hates what Halo used to be and they can't even see it.
Except for watching TH-cam videos about it, I haven’t thought about Halo Infinite’s campaign since I finished it. No spontaneous thoughts about the campaign, about the gameplay. It’s just so mediocre. I would happily never play it again. There has been zero urge to reply it. I’ve finished Halo 1, god, many times. Maybe 20 times in my life.
Ive played several halo campaigns well over 20 times. First day of halo infinite's campaign launch, i played about 4 hours. Never picked it up again. Ive played 5's campaign more than infinite lmao
How much of that is due to age though? I mean I played halo 2 and 3 probably 30 or more times each, but a lot of that was down to being a kid and not really having much money for other games. I played halo 4 twice. Once on normal and again on legendary. Never picked it up again. I think I still played halo 3 another few or more times after that.
@@50centpb7 I still play through Halo 3 and Reach every year. Though, the list of games that I replay is quite thin, I’ll admit. Indifference is really the key word. I wasn’t hype training infinite, but I was excited, Halo 5 is a game I still remember and still love. I came at this game having followed Halo 5s live support and was honestly just let down. On release I think I played one game of btb, then the bugs started and I called it. They (343 & the sprint junkies) can't keep getting away with this! We need immediate backlash to change the Overton Window.
It sounds like they're going to remake the original trilogy to train up their studio on Unreal Engine. I say: Fair enough. It's potentially less risky than trying to make Halo 7 as their first project in Unreal. It's also a chance to right the wrong of CE: Anniversary and make something better than the Gearbox port. If they do a good job, having a more stable, aesthetically true version of the OT could be nice. I can even get behind adding new Halo sandbox elements to CE- the energy sword, fuel rod cannon, hijacking, drivable wraiths, etc. I would enjoy it if they added some levels from Thel's perspective in CE. That's riskier, given their track record of awful storytelling that ignores canon and relies heavily on non-game material. And some things probably ought to be changed to match Bungie's original plans: If they continued on to Halo 3, I wouldn't say no to a remake of Cortana that actually looks like High Charity and includes the Flood Arbiters. Playing as the Arbiter for The Covenant would also be welcome, seeing as Bungie overcorrected by sidelining the Arbiter after backlash. Arby deserves to be the main character when you defeat Truth. There are some potentially exciting possibilities in this project, and I don't begrudge 343 the necessity of practicing with Unreal before continuing the main story of Halo. But it sounds like instead they're going to fundamentally change the gameplay so it's basically not CE at all. Now is the time to speak out against that! We have to head it off, or Halo is doomed to forever be Not!Halo.
"No, you guys. A lot of you just like everything". This is something that people need to recognize for themselves. Like, great! I am glad that they're easily satisfied and capable of enjoying objectively bad games, but 95% percent of the other people don't share their sentiment. They see what's directly in front of their face and solely recognize their own enjoyment while also being utterly incapable of understanding how anyone else may feel. Having low standards in conjunction with poor social awareness is a genuine sign of low IQ. I'm just glad that Microsoft and 343i are more aware of this than these so-called fans.
Holy shit you are back. I love ALL your takes man. I’m sorry for being one of the fans that never subscribe, I will fix that now. I too stopped playing infinite. God bless you and your family. A baby is always the gateway to a new part of life Btw make sure your baby doesn’t have bloom or sprint 😂
1. Favyn... you're the man! 2. Halo infinite was so disappointing that I decided I'm gonna make my own game and that started down a long rabbit hole journey of attempting to learn video creation and then that turned into me creating my own story for my game before I make it and now I am about 98000 words in on my first book that I will have ever written. So at the end of the day I'm very pleased that Halo infinite was a big pile of dog shit. It motivated me to bring back the joy that was missing from the original Halo games even though I still play MCC all the time lol. Will it be Halo 2.0? No. Will it be a human in a suit of armor fighting aliens? not quite. But what you can damn well be assured it will be is a game that Favyn can be proud of.
@@FavynTube This is my life's mission. When the book gets published you'll be one of the first to know! Then eventually these stepping stones will lead to a game we've only dreamed of.
The title makes for an instant like lol. I don’t hate Infinite, but if this is the future I won’t be able to follow Halo. It’s a few good steps forward, but it’s not the standard I hold this franchise to and if it continues like this I just don’t think I’ll come back
I remember halo 5s launch and how there was NOTHING. And everyone was upset that forge was coming three months later. I thought 343 learned. I was hopeful but thought “if 343 messes this up, I’m not going to care anymore. 3 strikes and you’re out.” Infinite comes out. There is even less than halo 5s launch and forge comes out later more than a year later. They regressed even from halo 5. That just launch wise. Remember how h5 it was only helmet and body you could change? That was so bad. So in infinite they give us more customization but everything isn’t even in the paid battle pass. Its in the shop. The customization is just as bad a h5. I remember playing elden ring and seeing how diverse the locations were and thought “ this is what i was expecting “ because the campaign there is no snow or dessert.
To be fair, Halo 5 launched on the Xbox One, it was never going to be all that popular, even if it had all content at launch Infinite had a much better chance would it have launched with forge, working customs, a ranking system, infection, etc It still would have its problems for sure, but we’d probably see a significantly larger amount of players sticking around New players who wanted to try out infinite, they see al these cool maps and modes being made and played, they actually have fun and stick around Customs and forge gives people so much more to fall in love with The game was so basic and bare bones at launch (partially due to maps, partially kind of bland gameplay) I agree with you mostly, I just think it isn’t entirely the case that Infinite would’ve flopped even with the content It wouldn’t have been a return to form, because it is missing a lot of the magic, but it would’ve been in a better position in terms of current population But yeah I agree with the fact that, as is, it was never going to blow up as popular as Halo once was
@@Blanktester685 back in the day when there was 2 popular shooters, Cod and Halo Let’s put it this way, Halo 5 on the Xbox One would never had reached the 20 million people that Halo Infinite did So Infinite had a huge chance to make a good impression and keep people around
Yeah if halo infinite was soo great Why was it a live service disaster that Microsoft started slashing after only a year and seasons ended only after 2 years. The game is literally an abject failure, it entirely failed to be the big first party ip live service casual trap Microsoft wanted for it. Instead the only live part about it was watch 343 live embarrass themselves and the franchise as they repeatedly delayed basic launch features again and again as the wider gaming audience they sort to repeatedly engage with them, engaged by collectively laughing at how badly 343 were floundering.
@@SneedRemembrancer if people loved the core mechanics, there would be more than 5k people playing right now. Simple as that. The evidence is right there and there’s no room for debate imo. Core mechanics did not work for people.
@@ConciseCabbage yeah if the game was fun or outstanding in any way. Then after it became ‘content complete’ as its community claim it is now. Then it should have found a much larger consistent playerbase. But even after its best season its players are still pathetic.
That bit about your age hit right in the feels tbh. I'm 35 and Infinite never felt the way I wanted it to feel. Cant really tell you why but somehow this game doesnt have that special Halo feel to it. Besides of that I'm a diehard Big Team Battle fan since Halo2 and those BTB maps in Infinite were just way to claustrophobic, cramped and that new vehicle drop mechanism didnt click with me either....yeah its rough...I dont know if I will stick around for the next entry tbh....man I wish it will be great again like in the glory days of Halo but I highly doubt it and I dont know if I will be back for another medicore free to play Customization generator named Halo. :(
I don't think it's hyperbolic to call 343 the worst developers ever if not one of them. They had everything. A successful franchise, all the money, over a decade worth of time. They haven't made 1 successful game. They couldn't even re-release a game. MCC took years to be decent.
I don’t feel like that’s fair. Halo Reach was where Halo’s identity crisis started, and hardly anyone understands what makes Halo special. Plenty of devs make mediocre games. 343i is only special in that they made mediocre games in a high profile IP.
@@deriznohappehquite no, it's the fact that they've had a decade and multiple tries. It took the firing and gutting of 343 for infinite to start going up hill. Bungie sure as hell didn't fuck up every game they made for decade.
343 has shown that they are only able to copy what others are doing, they are not capable of innovating. Halo 4? CoD clone. Halo 5? copy CoD advanced movement. Halo Infinite? Copy Ubisoft Open World games and Doom Eternal's Meathook. Halo 6 is either gonna have character classes Overwatch/R6 Siege style or a Battle Royale.
As someone who fell out of Halo back in 2018 until sometime past 2021 when getting MCC on PC, Infinite struggles to resonate with me quite a lot. On the other hand, Halo needs a leadership where you have the right people. The ones who love Halo and make it the valuable juggernaut it once was and a fresh new storyline without needing to retcon the Original so much. We can make the future of Halo ourselves, even better. Speaking of which, I have something in the works that's Halo-related and will be coming soon. Best wishes, Favyn!
As a Halo Modder, ive always felt that that I am fighting against the Halo community. I don't like Halo Infinite. It still doesn't feel like Halo, people said Halo Infinite is a "good foundation". No it isn't. Slipspace Engine is a pile of rubbish. The movement and mechanics of Halo Infinite don't feel like that of the Bungie games. Part of the reason for that is the game is too fast. 343i are still chasing trends with having sliding and wanting to be "esports competitve" so they don't make Halo with the mindset that Bungie had when making the Halo games which was "fun". I can't remember which Bungie employee said this but they wanted to make Halo's Multiplayer like it was a "party game" and one that "Nintendo would make". 343i have not approuched Halo with this mindset EVER. Which is why Halo will never be good again until 343i stops working on it. They're company culture doesn't fit with what is required to make a Halo game. So the best thing that can happen in my opinion. Is Halo is given to another studio and gets a reboot. I'd love to see Halo CE get the Resident Evil remake treatment.
Finally someone who gets it! Well Halo 4 was more of a party game than anything else tbh. You ever sit down and do some Halo 4 customs? It feels like the good old days of 3 and Reach just with a different game.
@@megaman37456 Halo 4 was 343i best Halo. But that was mainly because it was built directly off Reach and about half that game is just reused Reach assets. (No joke The Mod Tools prove it)
And when the world needed him most, he vanished. It happened. Unreal halo announced. I think its over. The community it hitting copium harder than ever, because of a rebrand... Corporate fluff video is catching everyone and giving them hope, only because they have been beat down so hard for so long. Microsoft will double down on contract workers with the switch to this engine, and the focus will ever-more-so be turned towards pumping out product and maximizing profits. With employee turnaround of this magnitute any true soul and artistry will be lost. Yes I know this is all doom and gloom, but look at the patterns. Look at the cycle. This is a billion dollar corporation that only cares about one thing, *money*. If you believe they have any other intentions other than saving face, you are in for another 10 years of disappointment. Anyways, Favyn love your videos. You always have the most logical breakdowns, and deconstructions about topics like these. Take your time cooking Cheif.
Now's their chance to make clear and obvious change that's tangible. If their goals are all bark, EVERYONE will notice when there's no bite. If I were Microsoft, I would be VERY monetarily encouraged to deliver a genuine Halo experience for fear of being obligated to put Halo on permanent cryosleep. There is literally no coming back from a deceptive rebrand.
The entire game has an awful sense of inertia, collision and gravity. Even just moving your player and physically colliding with enemies and the environment feels like crap. The vehicles feel weightless and have ridiculous acceleration and speed. Whole game feels like it's made of plastic or something. It's obvious how bad it is when you go back to the original games.
@@ComradeKoopa Agree. Even though halo 4 sucked and it was a downgrade with everything. That's the last time he sandbox at least felt like halo. Grenades threw the same, everything was like halo. I just wish they would take the time to learn halo 3s or reached damn code and make a better version of it, but leave stuff like vehicles the same (preferably reach for vehicles, and 3 for everything else.) Like they are gonna go to unreal engine, but they will never actually make it feel like halo. It will just feel, and look like every game that uses unreal engine. Get some damn people who are permanent, not this contractor bs, and teach everyone how the old code works, and understand it. It's not impossible to do. I'm tired of the excuse of that. (Bungie made spaghetti code so it doesn't make sense, and it's why 343 struggles always.) No, the reason is because they change things that don't need to be, fuck with the games in every way without actually innovating off of what we had. They just chase trends, and then make slop after slop. Never wanna learn how to actually do halo the right way.
It’s not difficult to make a good halo, lets discuss the recipe: •throw 343 in the garbage •hire competent, passionate, intelligent, skilled, ppl. •Take all the best features from halo 1-Reach •update the graphics •Rate it M for mature, make it for adults, bloody, gory, serious, etc. •no half assed meet in the middle compromises. I could list a lot more with lots of detail, but it’s not like anyone really cares.
Bloody? Sure, that’s fine Gory? I agree but only to a limit. Doom eternal or mortal kombat levels of violence wouldn’t really fit halo. I think halo would more so suit the level of violence that films with the 15+ rating have (no fear on showing dead bodies, gun shots, gunshot wounds, the occasional limb falling off. But no dismemberment, ripping out guts etc)
8:20 That's not even true either. Halo was competing with and was basically neck and neck with COD at its prime. Halo 3 and Reach were regularly near or even beyond the OG Modern Warfare, MW2, and Black Ops on Xbox. So the competition argument is BS.
@FavynTube wasn't aware you made that. I also wasn't saying you were making that argument, I was just trying to point out why that argument in general is incorrect.
Indeed. Its garbage and has been used for like 10 years. And yet all those games that were also around back then that Halo beat are still around but are ahead of Halo
I think firefight is fun and forge seems pretty cool. But the main reason I dont play the game is because I don't feel like grinding battle passes just to get one thing I want. I'm tired of games being designed just to waste your time.
Personally I belive that Infinite is the best halo 343 has put out as well as being one of the best halo multiplayer. Its like a faster halo 3 gameplay wise and the grapnel hook and halo are a match made in heaven. Its forge mode is better then anything we've ever had. I'm going to keep playing it for a long time and Husky Raid is the most fun in a video game I've ever had.
L take. Halo 5 actually at one point managed to have it's multiplayer beat out Halo 3'smultiplayer in players, and the game itself even beat out Halo 3 in sales and we know people weren't buying H5 for the campaign. Personally I've never seen a Halo game worse than Infinite, from it's dogshit designs to it's overabundant focus on microtransaction to it's nostalgia baiting art style. People only like it because modern gamers have zero taste.
@@megaman37456What are you talking about? Halo 5 was built around microtransactions and mocked people pointing that out. Halo 3 sold 14.5 million copies by 2012 and Halo 5 sold 5 million as of today. Its not "Nostalgia bait either" At the time fans hated the new style and wanted the old one back, look up any halo wars 2 art style video and people praised 343 for going back. Halo 5 was by far the worst halo to date and there's a reason no ones playing it.
@@AudentumI hate to point this out but only one gamemode was actually built around the microtransactions. The rest of the game is not dictated by it, unless you mean armors.
@@Audentum No Halo Infinite is built around microtransactions, Halo 5 is not. The only mode where Halo 5 utilizes microtransactions are the warzone variants, the base PvP game does not. Also Halo 5's microtransactions are ENTIRELY optional, meaning you can unlock everything in the game for free. Literally using art style based off the older games to bait people into playing a low quality, F tier game like Infinite is the textbook definition of Nostalgia bait. You want to know why Halo 5 has such little population these days? Because it doesn't have a Steam port like MCC and Infinite do, plain and simple. Halo 5's campaign yeah, worst in the series bar none, but it's multiplayer is easily the best.
I tried infinites multiplayer again and it disappointments me so much. The sound effects sound so weak, weapon sandbox isn’t creative, the maps sucks. Why is it so hard to make a good campaign and multiplayer?

Should’ve stayed like halo instead of fortnite. Most likely will never touch infinite again unless all my friends magically want to play multiplayer or they add more to the story. I doubt my friends will want to play it, and 343 adding more to a story sounds like something too hard for them. Most likely will fail at it anyways.
I can speak to the indifference. I haven't even touched Infinite because it looked like more of the same after H5 and not a true return to form. Here's to hoping they make a good one finally. Excited for the trilogy Favyn!!
In a gaming scene where everyone is hung up on nostalgia, why don’t they bring the original formula back. Hell remaster Halo 3 but leave the mechanics alone, like leading your shots, no sprint just straight up team based classic halo.
It seems reductive but - halo to me was what helldivers 2 is now. An experience based entirely around "fun."
Yeah but it's not following the classic Halo formula, which means it's bad.
this is sarcasm by the way.
Exactly
Helldivers 2 is also incredibly flawed, and after 50 hours it gets really boring. It’s just a generic PvE co op experience, they should add PvP but won’t. The buzz around hd2 and palworlds shows us that creativity and innovation is dead in modern gaming.

I want to thank 343i and Microsoft for removing the progression system so they could change 20 bucks for an armor set.
And for not implementing player collision because their donkey doodoo engine “can’t handle it”
Also the removing of the red vs blue color scheme for multiplayer so players could eXpReSs ThEmSeLvEs also did wonders for target recognition.

I agree, as bittersweet as it may be.
@@deriznohappehquite
I’m not disagreeing with you, we both basically want the same thing and all I want from Halo is a good game to play.
"We have a game marketed to both casuals and sweats and neither majority is having much fun anymore."
This is a problem; Not that it's marketed to both, but that we assume it is.
17:13
This is the concept that fanboys unfortunately never really seem to grasp.

Only Favyn can save us.

i hope at some point in your essays you talk about movement inertia and momentum. i don't recall if you ever did but 343 changing acceleration and deceleration to be near instant is such a subtle change that dramatically changed engagements for the worse imo, it made playing on PC (especially early on) a nightmare with people stutter-stepping everywhere
I have talked about it a decent amount but never in a full video.
My most recent discussion of this was in my upload from about a month ago called "the casual vs competitive conundrum"
This is such an important point. Instant strafe makes the game feel very random and sweaty even in the most casual modes.
Agreed, I can't stand these silly dance offs. The argument that it allows you to reverse gunfights is stupid, you SHOULD be punished for someone managing to get first 3 shots on you.

Halo Reach, spiritually, isn’t the fourth Halo game. It’s Destiny 0
@@deriznohappehquite it’s no doubt the game Bungie wanted to make after 3. It’s also wild how far Destiny has fallen too

@@sumguy7716 Cool, I didn't know about that. I haven't played Apex Legends in more than a year. I'll play it again after I finish my stuff
*Thunderous applause*
THAT’s how you get the general audience back on your side (those who checked out for years) it would symbolize an end to the previous dark age and a new era returning to classic formulas and new reason to be interested.
I like Sprint within Infinite’s campaign….
Keeping the sprint fight alive I love it! Absolutely cannot wait to see your halo blueprint series!!
15:12 how people don’t see this is beyond me. Then again, there are actually modern fans who support the tv show (go fuck yourself if you do btw), so it isn’t surprising, unfortunately.

Favyn, we need you!
The rumors about remaking Halo: CE suggest that they'll include sprint & clamber, and Mint Blitz and Ben Plays Games have both endorsed the addition of sprint.

I was hopeful but thought “if 343 messes this up, I’m not going to care anymore. 3 strikes and you’re out.” Infinite comes out. There is even less than halo 5s launch and forge comes out later more than a year later. They regressed even from halo 5. That just launch wise. The customization is just as bad a h5. To be fair, Halo 5 launched on the Xbox One, it was never going to be all that popular, even if it had all content at launch
Infinite had a much better chance would it have launched with forge, working customs, a ranking system, infection, etc

Thoughts on the recent resurgence of Eldewrito?

Infinite player counts is lower than the first helldivers player counts 😂
excited for these next few videos you're cooking up bro, really enjoyed this

@@JustSomeDude848 Destiny?
@@deriznohappehquite i mean during the halo era, obviously. Even then I wouldn't say destiny is nearly the failure that halo has been since under 343.
@@JustSomeDude848 Yeah, fair, Destiny, for all its faults, does some things incredibly well and is another multi-billion dollar franchise.
I’m excited for this new trilogy of videos. I will be happily waiting
(No joke The Mod Tools prove it)
@@PriceptionEvery Halo was directly built off the last though. Halo 4 was just the most obvious one.
@@Priception Facts.
Fav really went full circle towards the end of the video (that's not a complaint by the way).
Modern Halo fans are delusional enough to believe that an engine change will somehow fix the terrible design of 343’s games.
Great video again. Good to see some reasoned and well thought out discourse in Halo again. Looking forward to the next 3 videos.
The vehicle physics are awful now, and have been worse and worse since reach. Halo reach was the last game where the vehicles physics were peak.
It’s not difficult to make a good halo, lets discuss the recipe:
•throw 343 in the garbage
•hire competent, passionate, intelligent, skilled, ppl.
•Take all the best features from halo 1-Reach
•update the graphics
•Rate it M for mature, make it for adults, bloody, gory, serious, etc.
•no half assed meet in the middle compromises.
I could list a lot more with lots of detail, but it’s not like anyone really cares.
343 has got to go
That’s for sure
Bloody? Sure, that’s fine
Gory?
You're telling this to the person who made the original "halo didn't have competition bsck then is a BS argument" video
Thank you Favyn. Looking forward to your project and I hope the right people see it and utilize it
I think firefight is fun and forge seems pretty cool.
@@megaman37456waiting 5 years from now for people to start saying oh halo infinite was a masterpiece, classic goofy ah whinny halo fan
I tried infinites multiplayer again and it disappointments me so much. The sound effects sound so weak, weapon sandbox isn’t creative, the maps sucks. Why is it so hard to make a good campaign and multiplayer?
Let alone the tremendous inconsistencies with kills.. and the aiming isnt smooth its janky compared to the originals....infinite is just a trash game and honestly so it 343i
Halo is dead, sooner yall realize that the sooner yall can move on. It was fun while it lasted, 1-3 we got a great trilogy. Be happy you got to experience it, not that it's over.
Love your content. Also, congratulations on the baby. Stay safe.
this guy is a god damn poet
My childhood game and FIRST EVER game I played… reduced to cash grab battle passes and skins. Remember when you wore a piece of cool armor and it meant you grinded for it and didn’t pay $20? Should’ve stayed like halo instead of fortnite. Most likely will never touch infinite again unless all my friends magically want to play multiplayer or they add more to the story. I doubt my friends will want to play it, and 343 adding more to a story sounds like something too hard for them. Most likely will fail at it anyways.
A grand thesis. I cant wait
I can speak to the indifference. I haven't even touched Infinite because it looked like more of the same after H5 and not a true return to form. Here's to hoping they make a good one finally. Excited for the trilogy Favyn!!
100% on the money as usual Favyn
In a gaming scene where everyone is hung up on nostalgia, why don’t they bring the original formula back. Hell remaster Halo 3 but leave the mechanics alone, like leading your shots, no sprint just straight up team based classic halo.
Great video
