For the salt story, all too often when men are telling stories about their wife, they almost brag about how hard they went into them. Using words like berate. You should NEVER under any circumstance berate your wife in public (only few instances is it ok in private) so like, does it make them feel good or something to do that? Like does that make them a big boy? That they can crush their partner like that in front of others?

I think the take missing from story 2 is that his reasons for not liking her hot showers were valid, but he approached her disrespectfully. He never sat down and said "hey, I'm sorry about this but your hot showers are damaging my shower and I need you to turn on the dehumidifier or turn down the heat". Instead of this, he immediately demanded things and spoke to her like she had greatly offended him. So ultimately he is the asshole, but not for the reasons I think reddit and THT focused on

He says this is the only situation where he's been controlling, but I find that hard to believe when the way he displays control is exactly how abusers do (even down to not having a clear reason *why*). The fact that his ex felt the need to slowly take her things back to her house, not engage him in conflict, and seemingly not give him a heads-up that she was leaving makes me think she was afraid of how he would react. Because those exactly the steps to take, along with confiding in trusted people, to get out of an abusive relationship. I don't think he's a remotely reliable narrator. This is what I was thinking. I know my mother lost her shit on us as teenagers for taking steaming showers without the fan on in the bathroom because it eventually broke away at the dry wall. The health concern I would think about with the showers is passing out, which, really outing myself here, I have done from showering too hot

It was cleaned but still seal in the scrapbook. I was fine with it cause it's her pee stick. But if my dad gave it to my grandma without my mom knowing, then I'd be weirded out

I kept my tests from both of my kids (the pee doesn’t really stay on there, it soaks into the strip so I can’t see any yellow on mine at all.. they’re both clear and my daughters tests have a cap on them and I used test strips that come in a bulk pack with my son and his are in a ziplock bag in his memory box) It just holds such a huge memory that I never want to forget but if my kids dad gave the tests to grandma without me knowing I’d be super weirded out.
If her only concern is that it's her pee, maybe she could just pee on one that has a cap before she has the baby so it's less weird and there can still be a memory of it? 😅 My daughter is about to turn one and I took 4 over the course of a week to find out I was pregnant with her. I kept all 4 of them in a little box as a memory for me, but they all have lids on the part where I peed on them. I kind of already knew that if I was pregnant I wanted to keep them, so I made sure I only peed on the part that would be covered by the cap. (I wrote the day on each test and I can still see how the line got darker and darker)
I see it as weird too and I gave my MIL mine as her as I knew she would make a scrapbook for me she is super crafty. But if my husband gave it to her I definitely would of been upset and weirded out.
I also kept mine from my first pregnancy. I would be furious if my husband took it and gave it to his mom. Not only is it gross lol but that's something that's special to ME. How dare he give away that memory without talking to me.
TMI Warning ⚠️ When I was 2 days postpartum. I hadn't pooped in 7 days and any woman who has given birth knows that the first poop pp is already AWFUL. I ripped 5 of my 17 stitches and had to poop in a warm sitz bath because it was so painful. When I was done I was in so much pain, crying and could barely walk. My wonderful amazing husband came in and said that he would clean up for me 🥺 THAT is what a real partner looks like lol ❤ Moral of the story stinky poop girl. If he really loves you, he'll stick around and it won't matter ❤

As someone who has had a baby with someone who never cared much for me, this is beautiful and every person who goes through pregnancy and birth deserves a partner who would do this for them! Also a side note- for anyone who reads this and is pregnant or plans to be pregnant in the future- DRINK A TON OF CHLOROPHYLL AFTER YOU GIVE BIRTH!! My poop pp was easily one of the best poops of my life. I tore in two places and I promise you I’ve had much more painful poops than that in my life without a ton of open wounds in that area. It truly was a lifesaver!
For the second story “GF’S showers are hot” it’s one thing to be upset about mold building up and walls falling apart and it should be respected however I applaud her for leaving him because it turned from being concerned about the house walls to him being controlling. Taking locks off and checking the temperature every time she showers like wow that’s just crazy.
We have the steam issue in winter, so to combat the steam issue we have a heater run at night and it makes it so the air can carry more moisture meaning less steam. There are so many other ways to fix this too. Guy sounds super controlling, it's super weird.
My mom used to lower the temperature setting of the water heater so this wouldnt happen because i’d take really hot showers and the walls would drip water

My sister works for a proctologist, and what I have learned about farts, poop, and general colon health is telling me you need to go see one. 1 poop every other day with that much smell means something is wrong in your diet & gut, but at the minimum it's your gut!!! For the second story about the girl who took too hot showers, I think we all forgetting a good piece of information OP left in his post. He said his girlfriend used to get the window openned and let the steam got away for a bit before she turned the dehumidifier bc it was too much steam for it. He was the one to make her use the dehumidifier while showering that made the thing ultimately break. He was already controling her even when she appeared to be concerned about his property. Also, as a person who lives in a place where the bathroom painting is sh*t, I can tell you that too hot showers don't damage the painting, all hot showers and humid weather do, only that hot showers would accelerate the process. Either way, it wouldnt be like that if he let his grilfriend be and, even if it would, I think it would be a better approach to say "look, this is getting damage, what you think we can do to fix that?"

yes i agree - i am from germany as well both sides of my grandparents didnt like when we went barefoot in their house or ours. in their mind i think it isnt proper - and kinda unhygienic - like a lot of people wear house shoes, so just wearing socks in some homes isnt „proper“ as well ( not so much anymore it depends - but i imagine older generations still think so )

Story 1: My mom kept her pregnancy test from me and my grandma ended up with my baby book with the pregnancy test in hit because she raised me. My mom has since passed and I’m happy to have it bc it has her hand writing on it, but it was HER CHOICE to keep it. It’s so weird of the husband to give it to the grandma with the mom having no knowledge of it.

Also, it's normal for women to take hotter showers because our body temperature values a hot core for pregnancy reasons, so we have lesser circulation in the extremities. And, if you have a skin care routine, hot showers won't do shit most of the time.

The first thing that came to my mind as the cake story begun: GET A SALT SHAKER!!! As an avid baker, I do put a significant amount of salt in my cakes. Salt enhances flavor in even desserts, but overuse will always ruin a dish. Everyone is wrong in the story. MIL can use a salt shaker to salt to taste, husband needs to tell his mom to lay off, and wife should not have ruined the birthday party to prove a point. Even if my petty side appreciates the method, the setting was wrong. She has nuked the relationship with her MIL, even if she wasn’t in the wrong before. These people are all immature.

I think the issue with the pregnancy test being given to his mom is the lack of consideration for the wife's feelings. He should have asked with her to see if it was okay, or at the least recognized that it hurt her and made her feel uncomfortable after she found out.

I think the take missing from story 2 is that his reasons for not liking her hot showers were valid, but he approached her disrespectfully. He never sat down and said "hey, I'm sorry about this but your hot showers are damaging my shower and I need you to turn on the dehumidifier or turn down the heat". Instead of this, he immediately demanded things and spoke to her like she had greatly offended him. So ultimately he is the asshole, but not for the reasons I think reddit and THT focused on

He says this is the only situation where he's been controlling, but I find that hard to believe when the way he displays control is exactly how abusers do (even down to not having a clear reason *why*). The fact that his ex felt the need to slowly take her things back to her house, not engage him in conflict, and seemingly not give him a heads-up that she was leaving makes me think she was afraid of how he would react. Because those exactly the steps to take, along with confiding in trusted people, to get out of an abusive relationship.

I work in skincare and I'm just gonna boop in to say that hot showers don't do any damage as long as you use moisturizer after, since it is really drying to your skin. Your body typically doesn't let you tollerate temperatures hot enough to actually hurt you, but either way, you're not in the shower long enough to actually cook yourself. The damage however, that's a problem with the house. You need the right paint yeah, but ya also gotta make sure the edges are SEALED cause drywall disintegrates SO FAST (I know very little about construction, but I did redo my bathroom, and my walls were falling apart until I thought to properly seal it ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯)

This is what I was thinking. I know my mother lost her shit on us as teenagers for taking steaming showers without the fan on in the bathroom because it eventually broke away at the dry wall. The health concern I would think about with the showers is passing out, which, really outing myself here, I have done from showering too hot

My mom kept her pregnancy tests for when she discovered she was pregnant with my sister and I. She showed it when we asked to she our baby picture albums. I kept my tests from both of my kids (the pee doesn’t really stay on there, it soaks into the strip so I can’t see any yellow on mine at all.. they’re both clear and my daughters tests have a cap on them and I used test strips that come in a bulk pack with my son and his are in a ziplock bag in his memory box) It just holds such a huge memory that I never want to forget but if my kids dad gave the tests to grandma without me knowing I’d be super weirded out.
If her only concern is that it's her pee, maybe she could just pee on one that has a cap before she has the baby so it's less weird and there can still be a memory of it? 😅 My daughter is about to turn one and I took 4 over the course of a week to find out I was pregnant with her. I kept all 4 of them in a little box as a memory for me, but they all have lids on the part where I peed on them. I kind of already knew that if I was pregnant I wanted to keep them, so I made sure I only peed on the part that would be covered by the cap. (I wrote the day on each test and I can still see how the line got darker and darker)
I see it as weird too and I gave my MIL mine as her as I knew she would make a scrapbook for me she is super crafty. But if my husband gave it to her I definitely would of been upset and weirded out.

TMI Warning ⚠️ When I was 2 days postpartum. I hadn't pooped in 7 days and any woman who has given birth knows that the first poop pp is already AWFUL. I ripped 5 of my 17 stitches and had to poop in a warm sitz bath because it was so painful. When I was done I was in so much pain, crying and could barely walk. My wonderful amazing husband came in and said that he would clean up for me 🥺 THAT is what a real partner looks like lol ❤ Moral of the story stinky poop girl. If he really loves you, he'll stick around and it won't matter ❤

As someone who has had a baby with someone who never cared much for me, this is beautiful and every person who goes through pregnancy and birth deserves a partner who would do this for them! Also a side note- for anyone who reads this and is pregnant or plans to be pregnant in the future- DRINK A TON OF CHLOROPHYLL AFTER YOU GIVE BIRTH!! My poop pp was easily one of the best poops of my life. I tore in two places and I promise you I’ve had much more painful poops than that in my life without a ton of open wounds in that area. It truly was a lifesaver!

For the second story “GF’S showers are hot” it’s one thing to be upset about mold building up and walls falling apart and it should be respected however I applaud her for leaving him because it turned from being concerned about the house walls to him being controlling. Taking locks off and checking the temperature every time she showers like wow that’s just crazy.
We have the steam issue in winter, so to combat the steam issue we have a heater run at night and it makes it so the air can carry more moisture meaning less steam. There are so many other ways to fix this too. Guy sounds super controlling, it's super weird.
My mom used to lower the temperature setting of the water heater so this wouldnt happen because i’d take really hot showers and the walls would drip water

For the first story, it’s funny because my mom actually gifted a positive pregnancy test to her own parents in a wrapped box when she found out she was pregnant with me. For the second story about the girl who took too hot showers, I think we all forgetting a good piece of information OP left in his post. He said his girlfriend used to get the window openned and let the steam got away for a bit before she turned the dehumidifier bc it was too much steam for it. He was the one to make her use the dehumidifier while showering that made the thing ultimately break. He was already controling her even when she appeared to be concerned about his property.
Also, as a person who lives in a place where the bathroom painting is sh*t, I can tell you that too hot showers don't damage the painting, all hot showers and humid weather do, only that hot showers would accelerate the process. Either way, it wouldnt be like that if he let his grilfriend be and, even if it would, I think it would be a better approach to say "look, this is getting damage, what you think we can do to fix that?"

yes i agree - i am from germany as well both sides of my grandparents didnt like when we went barefoot in their house or ours. in their mind i think it isnt proper - and kinda unhygienic - like a lot of people wear house shoes, so just wearing socks in some homes isnt „proper“ as well ( not so much anymore it depends - but i imagine older generations still think so )
so it might just have been an generation clash - not necessary a fetish. i mean part it might be a cultural thing, ik in some homes in america u just wear ur outside shoes inside, here that isnt often the case except certain situations as a party. even then often asked to leave my shoes at the door

I love this podcast so much. It’s actually the first podcast that got me into podcasts in general. Normally I listen to them on Spotify while cleaning, showering, or driving. But after seeing this… I think I might start watching on TH-cam. lol
Story 1: My mom kept her pregnancy test from me and my grandma ended up with my baby book with the pregnancy test in hit because she raised me. My mom has since passed and I’m happy to have it bc it has her hand writing on it, but it was HER CHOICE to keep it. It’s so weird of the husband to give it to the grandma with the mom having no knowledge of it.

About the second story: what is it about men thinking they know more about women's bodies and health then the actual women? why do they think we are bumbling babies who need their help? the last quote where op said he was looking out for her health really freaking triggered me. Also, it's normal for women to take hotter showers because our body temperature values a hot core for pregnancy reasons, so we have lesser circulation in the extremities. And, if you have a skin care routine, hot showers won't do shit most of the time.

I know renovation is hard and the housing market isn't good, but it seems baffling to me that OP would rather blame his ex and invade her privacy than have a honest talk with her or just check if everything's ok with his bathroom. he only talked to her when she was already distant and taking her thing away.

I normally listen to the podcast on youtube and rarely look at it and keep working but this time I can't stop staring at the geko costumes, I love it so much.
The first thing that came to my mind as the cake story begun: GET A SALT SHAKER!!!
As an avid baker, I do put a significant amount of salt in my cakes. Salt enhances flavor in even desserts, but overuse will always ruin a dish. Everyone is wrong in the story. MIL can use a salt shaker to salt to taste, husband needs to tell his mom to lay off, and wife should not have ruined the birthday party to prove a point. Even if my petty side appreciates the method, the setting was wrong. She has nuked the relationship with her MIL, even if she wasn’t in the wrong before. These people are all immature.
