Thank you for sharing this video, this looks like an amazing hobby, I was gonna buy this kit at hobby lobby but I’m glad that I found this video first because it is a bit more scary than I thought, hopefully one day very soon I will be brave enough to try or maybe I will just sit back and watch my husband try it first because he is braver than I am.

Many people use these torches on a daily basis and as long as you have proper fireproofing and you keep aware of the flame, you'll be fine. These mapp torches are loud but don't be freaked out by that. Hotter torches like you'll see in my other videos are much less noisy.

I think your set up is well worth $70, I bought mine and I even got a discount but I didnt get the stuff to set up. Just glass and a couple of tools and DVD that didnt even give set up directions. So really this is a better choice if you dont want to spend a lot of money trying out a new hobby.

your kit did not come with a torch and mandrels and all that stuff? Yeah it's hard to get going without that. I do know that some companies sell starter kits that include samples of media, but no tools, and those should be clearly marked as samples, not beginner kits. I really only know of one company that sells a proper beginner kit, and I can't recommend that company. Their kit is nice though, if you actually get what you ordered.

first of all, this kit is garbage. if you are going to use mapp gas, get a hot head torch. it has a larger, wider flame. you can also get an 8 pound tank of propylene at air gas which is a little hotter and much cleaner gas to use with the hot head. you will need a adapter hose for the hot head which the carry. make sure you have sufficient ventilation as well as induction. i taught classes for ten years on a hot head with an improperly ventilated room and developed copd because of it. always, always, always use dydimium glasses! if not you can cause serious damage to your eyes and definitely develop cataracs. you need to have the mandrel below the flame not in it. while heating the rod, rock it from side to side to heat a larger surface of the rod. let it ball up before creating the first footprint. heat in the flame, shape outside of the flame. constantly turning the mandrel. if you are going to wear a long sleeve shirt, make sure it is form fitting. there are times i thought you would set your sleeve on fire. a better torch will be much hotter! have the bead under the flame to the side of it, heat stringer until a small ball forms and apply it to the bead when the bead is outside of the flame. you managed to make a bead but cooked the glass while doing so. eventually graduate to a larger torch which uses oxygen/propane. a lot hotter, works faster and your colors will be better. transparent glass is stiffer and a better torch helps with that and they will be clearer. i dont want to be so negative, just trying to be helpful. i have 25 years experience with bead making and have taught for many years. i get so frustrated when people spend a lot of money taking a class from a teacher that doesnt know what they are doing and create a lot of bad habits. good luck

Is your shift key broken? All I can say is I don't appreciate the negative tone, and I'm sorry I didn't live up to your expectations, but I did point out my lack of experience. I am also disappointed in your apparent inability to comprehend this video. I have been teaching various subjects for far more than 25 years and in general, I don't appreciate your attempted style of education here. In my experience, students tend not to react in positive ways to this kind of comment. Seems like you have let your bias get the better of you a little bit, and you missed a lot of details which I did point out.

@@jasmine2501 I agree! Some people just need to be condescending to feel better about themselves. Feel sorry for him if anything.
