Hello my friend. I ain't a Portuguese nor I speak Portuguese but I would suggest the following. Portuguese speaking community hosted numerous occasions of international sports events every three to four years. Among all sports, ⚽ football/soccer is popular and also globally popular. Also the most influential Portuguese speaking nations are Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique and few other nations who also play lots of football. In Brazil, it is a global leader. Consequently, I recommend that promoting and coaching more football to binding the Portuguese speaking community. For example, Timor-Leste developed football as popular as it is in Brazil? On the individual players, brilliant football players from Timor Leste could play internationally and earn hir income and popularity for the nation. Please refer to the Argentine Diego Maradona as a reference.

in fact, there are plenty of jesus statue in Indonesia specially in christian area like in Manado, Toraja and Papua. Indonesia is a diverse country, even the majority is sunni muslim, Unity in Diversity is written on our constitution... i cant wait the Indonesian episode... i wonder how long it would be.. i mean like we have more the 17 thousands island, a lot of race, more than 200 local languages, longest coast line and so on.
Actually in regards to religion,The rest of Timor and nearby Indonesian islands such as Flores are a majority Christian. So, it's not as religiously isolated as you would think.
Benedict Suciu Betul kebanyakan di Pulau Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, dan Papua. Sedangkan di Sumatera, Kalimantan , Jawa, dan Sulawesi kebanyakan muslim. Though I can speak English. I wrote it in Indonesian. Oh well....................
Yep, West Timor, Flores, Sumba, Savu areas of the spice islands....there is also many other areas in Indonesia predominate Christian/Catholic, areas of Sulawesi, lake toba and islands of Nias, Telos, Mentawais in Sumatra...sure more.
The fact that the surrounding Island are predominantly Christian and you said that it's predominantly muslim is funny because Flores is the only Catholic native kingdom in Asia back in the day. Also the Portuguese were relocated from Flores to East-Timor. Sumba is a heavily Christian island (I'm from Sumba so I do know that) and the other Islands (alor, solor, etc.) to the east are mostly Christians so it's not weird about having a lot of pork cuisine. The fact that most pigs were farmed in Sumbawa (a Muslim majority Island) and shipped to the Flores, Sumba, Timor, etc. shows that Indonesia, despite a muslim-majority country, is not an extremist muslim one. Also you failed to mention Macau and Goa as the Portuguese family :(
He did mention Macau as Asian sibling of Timor-Leste in the last part of the video. That should count. Regarding Indonesia, just ask Basuki Ahok's family about religious extremism in indonesia. They might tell you a different story. Not as extreme as the middle east but it is still far away from 100% secular. The government and the cabinet are packed with Javanese muslims. Though Javanese is majority, it is only 20% of the whole population. Very unhealthy democracy.
Timorese here. I thank the uploader who is kind of great discoving my beloved country TL. I hope we Timorese are willing to develop this country through increase the living of the people to a middle income society in the next 10-15 years. We are currently working on our infrustructure sectors basically on roads constructions, public buildings, identifying and develop potential tourism areas, Ports and Airports and so on.
As a Portuguese I wish your country the best of luck, your brave and proud people deserve it! I think you are on the right path, with a functional democracy (unlike many other countries in south east Asia) and a proper strategy for sustainable economic development.
The islands surrounding East Timor are overwhelmingly Christian. Flores is about 90% Catholic, while Sumba and West Timor are divided between Protestants and Catholics, and Muslims are not the majority anywhere in this region (except for some coastal area).
@@bnbcraft6666 You're correct in saying that the govt moved people from Muslim-majority areas to Papua, following the now-halted "transmigration", purportedly to distribute the population more equally between Indonesian islands. However, the provinces surrounding East Timor are *not* the target of transmigration. East Timor and Papua are separated by more than a thousand kilometres. The province of East Nusa Tenggara, which surrounded East Timor, was still 90% Christian in 2010. This is in contrast to the province of West Papua, where Muslims now form a significant minority there. The transmigration program, btw, did not move only Muslims but also non-Muslims, especially Christian Javanese and the majority-Hindu Balinese. In West Papua (the province, not the whole region), where half of the population are non-indigenous, only 38% are Muslims. This means that at least 10% of the population are both non-indigenous and non-Muslim. In any case, the conflicts that arose out of transmigration so far are more ethnic-based than religion-based, e.g. the Madurese-Dayak clashes in Borneo. Most Madurese are Muslims, but the similarly majority-Muslim Javanese and Malays were relatively untouched by the Dayaks. Also, conflicts due to transmigration have happened even when the target areas are majority Muslim. The province of Lampung, for example, is now majority Javanese, while the indigenous Lampung people (who are mainly Muslims as well) form no more than 15% of the province's population, due to heavy transmigration since the early 20th century (yes, this program is one of the legacies left by our colonizer, and continued by our corrupt politicians). This has resulted in some conflicts between the locals and transmigrants. Nowadays, the provincial government is required to safeguard the indigenous Lampung culture and language, but it took years and regime change before these policies were legally implemented.
@@bnbcraft6666 They didn't try *Muslims* to move into those areas. They tried *Javanese* people to move everywhere in transmigration programme (not just to Papua, but to Kalimantan and Lampung too). Btw I'm a Javanese Christian and I can confirm that one of my grandfather's brother (which is also a Javanese Christian) was moved to Lampung, a Muslim-predominant region. It was never about religion, it was about population density on the Island of Java. And I take a neutral view about it.

As a West Java citizen, I was there several times in the 90s when I worked for a consulting service in the Indonesia's 27th province. There were only 20% village roads before we started the program then it became 100% disclosured villages in 1999 It was budgeted by government under OECF loan for rural infrastructures development program (indeed we paid it even after independence). Instead, other teams were also working on human development effords in form of student & college programs, likewise in school infrastructure, public functions, communications, electricity and various other programs that have not been provided by the Portuguese for hundreds of years. We kept on many affordable affirmative approaches to its accomplishment along with many security issues (atrocities by both sides). So it is not entirely true that Indonesia left damages as propagandized upon its retreaval. But now, I am happy to see how a lot young generation of East Timor is doing such endeavours to advance their country. God bless them.

I think Timor Leste is one of the most unknown country of the world with countries like Palau , or Caribbean islands
We're really know them.

Im from a small country in Europe and i also thought that my country is unknown when i was a kid. I was reading a book about asia and oceania a few moths ago and that's how i found about Timor-Leste
Caribbean islands?? People in the Americas know them relatively well. Also some are word wide figures such as the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic. I live in a less known one, Trinidad and Tobago, but still we're known, because of our Carnival, Nicki minaj, Cricket records, and being the richest Caribbean country (sometimes being beat by the bahamas or smn) Theres also some lesser known ones but you get what I mean. I think Oceania Islands really take the cake when it comes to being unknown. and as you say, timor leste.
No,a lot of ASEAN know East Timor...

Actually in regards to religion,The rest of Timor and nearby Indonesian islands such as Flores are a majority Christian.
So, it's not as religiously isolated as you would think.
Even though most Indonesians are Muslim....
Benedict Suciu Betul kebanyakan di Pulau Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, dan Papua. Sedangkan di Sumatera, Kalimantan , Jawa, dan Sulawesi kebanyakan muslim.
Though I can speak English. I wrote it in Indonesian. Oh well....................
Benedict Suciu Ps We both have the same front name 'Benedict'
Also, Bali is majority Hindu.
Also you failed to mention Macau and Goa as the Portuguese family :(
flores its a the portugues name for flowers
you are amazing man
Goa doesn’t speak portuguese though. He said portuguese speaking country
Doni Sitorus But it was about former Portuguese colonies. A few elderly people still speak Portuguese there.

@@ms.migrant yes, I do!
The islands surrounding East Timor are overwhelmingly Christian. Flores is about 90% Catholic, while Sumba and West Timor are divided between Protestants and Catholics, and Muslims are not the majority anywhere in this region (except for some coastal area).
I believe the Indonesian is trying to get Muslims to move into these Christian areas (especially in Papua)
@@bnbcraft6666 i don't think it's only Muslim everyone is moving everywhere

Thanks. That was good information.
That"s because of the fact that Oecussi was the place where Portuguese arrived in Timor island for the first time. Thus, they did not give the land to the dutch. My father is for Oecusse btw.
Hey Barby, when you mentioned José Ramos Horta, in portuguese it's pronounced "Giosé Hamos". You pronounced it the way it would sound like in spanish. And yes, I am aware this is an old video.
Sallutations from Brasil! Love your videos.
