As an audiophile I don't see the point. I can add 10TB USB HDD to the router for $200 (the best place to share files). Add a streaming endpoint and some cheap computer as Roon Server, and spend the extra 3k for a DAC + Preamp.

It doesn’t have DLNA - Rose say it has DLNA however it really doesn’t, just like they say it has Tidal but it doesn’t. It’s a Media Renderer (DMR). I can’t get it to work with my NAS and Plex

Hi J. I’m looking at audio lab 6000n as a streamer. Wanted to your input. My budget would be up to 2500$. Matching up with a Bryston BP26 and Totem winds. Any input would be appreciated
Nice review on the ROSE 201E man, very advanced use of skeuomorphism to add some realism. I don't stream; I just need a good media player that can play FLAC from an external USB SSD. Question is, is there a limit on how many albums and audio tracks the RS201 will read? There are many units that claim for example 4TB of storage etc. but cannot actually read and catalog all the folders and files on an external SDD or HDD. Most importantly, how is the customer service /support for HiFi Rose products? The 4K video not really a big deal, Firesticks have been doing that for years; not elegantly but doing nonetheless. Any way I may have to start putting away some extra bucks, the more I read about this thing the more its starting to grow on me. I have an SMSL DP5 and I'm a bit disappointed with.
The cambridge is more competition to NAD M10 but I feel the rose hifi is a different breed altogether ... I don't know of any streamer which can play you tube ad free and project the video at 4k to your display .. this stuff is sick ..
Nice looking units but they don't make a version without built in amp. A dealbreaker for people who wish to feed a power amp. Even the 150 would have a snowflakes chance of driving my Magnepans. Maybe they'll make a un amped version in the future but by that time I would have the Rose in my rack. Plus only the Rose has the 4k streaming. Not important to all, but it is to me.
I find it odd you used the clip you did to indicate the screen is very responsive, because it looks very laggy and unresponsive when I play that segment back. Was that an isolated incident or is the visual representation what can be expected?
listening to metal at 12:24 (Gojira - The Chant) and at 13:45 (Obituary - Sentence Day) on an audiophile system? are you telling us that metal sounds good on audiophile gear? no way, that is not true (me listening to vinyl Borknagar, Opeth, Ayreon, etc, on Kef LS50W II with a B&W DB4S sub)
I have both. Bluesound doesn't even stand a chance against this one. The difference in sound quality is like night and day for me. Then there's the price difference as well.
Trying to decide between the Hifi Rose 150 and the Holo Audio May DAC. 1) what's the difference between the 150 and 150b? Just the DAC Chip? If I went with the Holo Audio, what streamer should I look at? Love the videos!
Indeed, I looked into this earlier this year and even corresponded with the manufacturer with some questions. Nice thing is it can rip CD's too if needed and they say it has lots of sources of meta data. However, my preferred music streaming service is Amazon Music HD and they don't have plans to support it. Oh well...
Why did you wait so long to review this product? Just bought a second streamer which is good. But the display on this bad boy is wicked. It also uses a great dac chip.
Hi Jay. Does any of those streamers support HiRes loseless from Apple Music send wirelessy ? I'm looking for solution which allows me to stream directly from Apple Music HiRes 24/192 wirelessly, without using any external (UPNP) App. Thanks in advance for any advice. Kris

As an audiophile I don't see the point. I can add 10TB USB HDD to the router for $200 (the best place to share files). Add a streaming endpoint and some cheap computer as Roon Server, and spend the extra 3k for a DAC + Preamp.
Omg I had that same MP3 player in 2001-2002. Then my dad saved up for months for Christmas to buy me the first iPod. I loved that MP3 player. I though I was the shit back then walking the hallways at school. I had a Walkman then discman, then the a dell pocket pc and then iPod. I miss those days.
It doesn’t have DLNA - Rose say it has DLNA however it really doesn’t, just like they say it has Tidal but it doesn’t. It’s a Media Renderer (DMR). I can’t get it to work with my NAS and Plex
Our Hungarian ladies definitely do a fantastic job of HiFi video production! Top work all round! Gratulálok Rebeka 👍 🇭🇺 🎵 And great work on another storming review Jay, you give me great inspiration for my channel across the pond! 🇬🇧
Hi J. I’m looking at audio lab 6000n as a streamer. Wanted to your input. My budget would be up to 2500$. Matching up with a Bryston BP26 and Totem winds. Any input would be appreciated
No reply because this kid is basically selling this stuff and making lots of money doing so indirectly.
Snake oil
Jay, nice review! And nice find. How good is the DAC?
That NEW Cambridge Evo 75 and 150 steamer might be up here with these Rose models
They're just as sexy, intuitive and feature rich.
The 150 is an unamped version. Similarly they have just introduced 250 which is an unamped version of 201 .. check their website
@@ajaygeorge79 I meant the Cambridge Evo 150 which has an integrated amp. The Rose 150 is the one I'll hopefully be getting soon.
Have you tried this as a preamp or just as a streamer? (sorry, I wasn't sure from the video)
LOVE the change up ... Yes man .. get outside =) ... will you do reviews of outdoor speaker systems? .. what makes them different?
I find it odd you used the clip you did to indicate the screen is very responsive, because it looks very laggy and unresponsive when I play that segment back. Was that an isolated incident or is the visual representation what can be expected?
Is slow motion lol
.... 60fps to 24fps
thanks for keeping us up to date
listening to metal at 12:24 (Gojira - The Chant) and at 13:45 (Obituary - Sentence Day) on an audiophile system? are you telling us that metal sounds good on audiophile gear? no way, that is not true (me listening to vinyl Borknagar, Opeth, Ayreon, etc, on Kef LS50W II with a B&W DB4S sub)
Damn!!! No mention of the Headphone jack on the 201E model... SMDH
How does it compare to the bluesound
I have both. Bluesound doesn't even stand a chance against this one. The difference in sound quality is like night and day for me. Then there's the price difference as well.
Thanks Jay. Great humour in here as usual 🙂 Interesting video too but I have already ordered my streamer. Nevermind that's hifi 😀
I'm getting Darko vibes in the post production and cutscenes... On purpose or...? Great review btw !
But let’s be clear.... There’s only 1 John Dario
How about best streamer at $500 or so price point? Or best RasberryPi streamer? (With DAC included? )
Wow, it looks like the future has arrived with that unit!
Oh well...
Are you trying to say that it can rip CDs using an add-on CD drive? I saw no CD slot, so it, by itself, can't rip CDs, unless I'm missing something.
@@cablebrain9691 Correct ! (if my memory is correct)
@@cablebrain9691 you may connect a simple portable cd player to the rose It has a an cd rip application in it.
The bigger one looks awesome. But I use Roon and it is a shame it doesn’t run the core , as I would be using my nuc to feed it Roon , bit pointless.
Why did you wait so long to review this product? Just bought a second streamer which is good. But the display on this bad boy is wicked. It also uses a great dac chip.
So let me get this right: it's not a roon core... right?
Have a look at the Lindemann Musicbook / Source
Hi Jay.
Does any of those streamers support HiRes loseless from Apple Music send wirelessy ?
I'm looking for solution which allows me to stream directly from Apple Music HiRes 24/192 wirelessly, without using any external (UPNP) App.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Kris
Pi2AES has taken the crown as the best streamer in my book. I guess it can be a little tricky if you're "technologically challenged", tho. (:
No chromecast? Some will also want Tidal connect....
Nice! Combining my 2 hobbies of audio and BBQ!
I've always been curious about the cocktailAudio X50Pro.
Bulgogi-love it! Did you take Darko's jacket?
I would give you 2 thumbs up if I could. One for the BBQ + 2nd for the audio review
What does this do that a Mac mini would not?
Pre amp. Nice dac. Clean power. Clean sound. Many in/out-puts, nice touchscreen, thicc metal, etc
"I love BBQing... and there's my neighbours' dog..." you rock! :-)))) Jokes aside, I love kimchi and BBQ! Tried authentic stuff at Suwon-si ;-)
And the video with fire and sparkles is really cool!
The transition sequence at 3.44 is absolute genius! Your writers must be costing you a fortune 🤑
The 150B is almost 7 thousand dollars in Canada now.
