It was interesting when Bud was reading the affidavit for the hypnotist and what habits could be broken. I was waiting to hear about quitting smoking but that would not have gone over too well with Salem sponsoring the show.
Thanks, Kevin! In its infinite wisdom, TH-cam autoflagged your very kind comment as SPAM. Happens all the time, but it's particularly ridiculous in cases like this, when there isn't even a link included in the comment, and when the comment has nothing else in it that would even remotely explain why TH-cam flagged it as spam!
Betty & Allen were a wonderful couple. Both Tom Poston & Betty White will be on shows produced by MTM, Betty on The Mary Tyler Moore Show by the 70s and Tom Poston on Newhart by the 80s. Half of the panel on the left will play the Foreman grandparents on That 70s Show.
The hypnotist's affidavit didn't mention helping people stop smoking -- probably in deference to the sponsor! I thought it a little unethical to mention the names of famous patients, and was pretty certain that it wasn't #3, who made up symptoms that he had treated Maury Wills for; a real therapist would surely have said that was confidential.
Notice in game number 2, when Allen gives his reason for voting for his pick, he refers to number 2 as “he”. I played repeatedly to be sure I heard correctly!
Am I the only one who would swear on a Bible that Jean McCarg (Employment agent for cowboys) Contestant # 2 is a man in drag? Really an adam's apple and everything!
haha that's what i came to the comments for... usually I avoid them because people give away answers or complain about things and forget this was 50s-60s before it was common knowledge that certain things were bad..
Betty White was the second Mrs. Allen Ludden. His first wife and the mother of his three kids, Margaret, died of cancer a few weeks after Password had debuted on CBS. They were married for 18 years until his death from cancer on June 9, 1981; the same day that Natalie Portman was born.
Just brilliant gifting a carton of cigarettes to high school age young men. I guess sponsorship is where the money is, or was back then. Research, especially the U.S. Surgeon General's report on the health dangers of smoking cigarettes hadn't yet come about. Why not then get Smith & Wesson as a sponsor, and provide a gun and ammunition as a parting gift. Americans love their guns.
Kitty Carlisle was an Amazing singer and starred in Many movies. I don't know where you got your information, But you should research her more. You might even become a fan like me! By the time she was on TTTT She basically had become a philanthropist and commissioned the arts. Seriously, research her, you'll be surprised!
Most of the panel were famous before they did this show. The first time Betty White was on a panel, they explained that they were bringing her in from Hollywood. She was already an actress. And Kitty was very famous... so....
Tom Poston really gets on my nerves. Don't know what was so hysterically funny about his comment on the second game. Maybe it's just me, but Tom never got on my nerves on any other show he was part of.
Me too!! When it was time to vote, she drew as much attention to herself as possible. I sat next to her husband Freddie Fields on a plane many years ago - what a Pill he was.
RachelDavisMatthews thank you! i have been enjoying watching these old shows, but Polly is so annoying and attention-seeking that it ruins the shows she is in. :-P

Betty and Allen are so funny in this episode
WOW. Betty White AND Allen Ludden
Some of the impostors have an interesting line of work.
A really delightful episode today. Thanks for posting, I watch EVERYDAY :)

15:37 Tom almost spat his drink out 😂

No therapist should ever reveal client names or why they were treated - that alone is unethical.
Great episode!

I guess there's no confidentiality with hypnotists, which is in my opinion, witchcraft.
At about the 15:50 minute mark, Bud Collyer calls Allen "Mr. White."
They had gotten married about a month before this episode aired.
Notice in game number 2, when Allen gives his reason for voting for his pick, he refers to number 2 as “he”. I played repeatedly to be sure I heard correctly!
Fun watching hypnotist number two get pissed off in his ego as they teased him, rightly, for not being upfront.
Where is that teenage stock market expert today??
15:20 Betty's reaction to Tom Poston.
Am I the only one who would swear on a Bible that Jean McCarg (Employment agent for cowboys) Contestant # 2 is a man in drag? Really an adam's apple and everything!
Oh boy yeah!
You betcha!
I'm glad I'm not the only one
Sorta kinda maybe but since the spot was so funny, I don't care.
Are you the only one who would swear on a BIBLE? Probably! (if you swear on the Bible, then you'd BETTER be sure you know what you're talking about)
Tell me that #2 is not a man.

Totally
Without a doubt.

I can top that! Allen Ludden was Betty White's THRID husband
Hypnosis is not a side-show - these hypnotists did a lot of unethical performance stuff
Allen uses the term "involuntary attention span" what is that? Seems like an oxymoron.
Free cancer sticks
Carton of cigarettes to teenagers?!!! It is the early 60’s!!!
Minimum smoking age in NY was 16 until 1988
I thought number 2 was a man 🙃
You and a lot of others!

Please remember these shows aired almost 60 years ago. Different world back then.
Kitty Carlisle must have really felt bad!! She's the only one that never does anything other than this show!!

Kitty Carlisle was always out and about doing lots of lecture tours. They've mentioned it quite a few times.

you know who bugs me? Polly Bergen. :-P
Yes, I've gathered that by now, +nowvoyagerNE. :)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
