Great review, you do the most thorough quick shifter reviews out there. To me this looks like a serious contender. Great review. Glad to hear this surprised you a bit, always a nice experience. I can't rate this above the Hypermotard application of this engine though but that's personal (hooligan) preference.
its the distribution of the weight that matters. I rode t7 and 901 on the same tour, and the difference is night and day. desert x looks like it is in top-heavy category., but definitely three most beautiful bikes on the market right now.

I Wanna do some more offroad riding but still dont want to sacrifice all the comfort for let,s say a KTM 890 or a T7.. Gonna do a test ride with it ASAP.. :9
Greetings from Portugal! Another excellent review. 👍 I had a feeling you would like this desert X, because the bike is really fantastic. I had the pleasure of seeing her live at the Estoril Circuit, fully equipped, and I was amazed. A motorcycle designed from start to finish for off-road and long trail trips. But the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro is also a superb Trail, but it has fewer horses (92), 21" rim at the front, it's a tough choice. I think Desert in extreme Off Road, manages to be superior because it was designed for this purpose. Both very expensive and beautiful. But ducati aims more at the Italian passion, that love...... you know 😁
Just returned from a couple days in the Heidelberg area and thought how nice it would have been to have been on a M/C... I'll have to come back. Definately on a M/C, the German train system, unfortunately has gone downhill since I was in Germany last. 15 years ago...SAD.
If you can find it look for ducati's desert demo ride Of 2 of these bikes in sand dunes in the desert incredible footage ! Of the capabilities of this bike.
Good review, but apologizing for the quick-shifter is bad play. I don't want to feel a clunk offroad -- it may upset grip. And how about downshifts? Many (good) gearboxes upshift smoothly clutchlessly without a quick-shifter.
August’22 Ride the new Tiger1200 Pro. Sport mode speed shifts runs smooth up and down. Even shifts without clutch into 1st from 2nd. I only own Ducs. That 2022 Tiger is incredible
The main thing I notice is how great all those wind turbines look. I like the look of the bike too, not my kind of thing but a cool bike. Nice review, thanks.
The problem is with the T7, KTM and Tuareg are that they are almost too offroad focussed. For a person who already has a dual sport but wants something a bit more comfortable for BDR's and commuting, I think the DDX is the better choice (if you can afford it).
Oh, that's a tough one. They are very similar in size, footprint, and weight but and this is a big but, the AF feels a little more top heavy then this. But the AF has more torque down low. I'm going back a forth in my head right now...hmm. It really comes down to what you are looking for in an ADV. Both are about equal in off-road capability, but Honda will win in reliability and total cost of ownership. And Honda has the off-road cred that Ducati just has not established as of yet BUT with this bike they are trying and doing a good job at it with this first iteration of the DesertX. take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve Scott. Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply. Well, i rode them both back to back again today. I just loved the DesertX. It’s so planted. Amazing for a 21 inch front wheel. I put a deposit down. I’ll be riding her to Alaska next year from here in Seattle! Thx you again!
I think it’s nonsense that they made the quickshifter clunky at low rpm to feel it more if you shift. Smoother is better, especially in slow off-road work. It’s just clunky. Also it doesn’t run properly below 3000rpm? Slow technical off-road probably not great on this bike.
Would you mind sharing a link to the Excel summary page you showed on screen? I'm trying to narrow down a purchase decision between the 890r, Tuareg 660 and DesertX... Thanks in advance and nice review video on this unit!👍

So I guess what my question is how does it feel on road vs a larger bike like the gs1250?

Yea, I was really pleasantly surprised with this bike. I do NOT say that often and especially I don't say that with Ducati's 🙄 The screen is in the old Dakar Rally style, it's ok and yea the gopro usually does not pick up almost any TFT/LCD in a good way and this was one of them. So the screen is better than the video shows. But the numbers at the bottom of the screen were a bit small, I had to squint to see them (without my reading glasses...but still could see them), that is why I didn't mention it in the video. Had a chance to sit and bounce on it at ABR Festival. Loved it. But! That rear plastic guard is made of such cheap plastic it would only have been used by Airfix in the 80s when they went downhill. The edges are so sharp that they can easily cut you by just brushing past. At that price I do not expect to have to go around the edges with a bit of Wet'n Dry and round the edges. Also the finish on the front plastics are not great. Not a great match with the perfectly finished tank. Disappointing. Odd. Nice review, by the way.
