Married...With Children had a phenomenal cast with exquisite chemistry, but Christina Applegate's Kelly Bundy quickly became the breakout star of the sitcom. Whenever she would step out onto the set, she would be greeted with thunderous applause from the studio audience. She developed a reputation for being a sarcastic and wickedly funny vixen. It didn't hurt either that her wardrobe consisted of countless skin-tight outfits that left little for the imagination.
In many ways, Kelly Bundy was the heart and soul of the family. Even though she constantly made fun of him, she seemed to genuinely care about her somewhat dimwitted brother Bud and was always rooting for him when he wound up scoring a date.
She could be delightfully naive, resulting in some seriously funny moments, but every now and then she would surprise you by busting out a bit of hard-hitting knowledge straight out of left field. She might have been seen as promiscuous and vain, but she was normally the Bundy with the warmest heart and hardly ever treated anyone with disrespect - aside from the usual sibling jabs she often traded with her brother.
Married...With Children celebrates its 34th anniversary this year. It's hard to believe that it's been that long, but then again time has a way of doing that. I remember seeing my parents watch this show, as time grew & I became an adult, I grew fond of Applegate. Besides that, I grew fond & loving the show, I used to share episodes on Facebook

I actually met Christina Applegate while waiting on a flight at LAX once years ago. Very polite, respectful and not the typical "Better than others" demeanor. I am not saying we were actually friends, just a short conversation that left me very impressed.

Though she's undoubtedly one of the premier heartthrobs of that era, Christina always appears to have remained a very classy, approachable, and personable lady. I heard that Barbara Eden was very much the same way. Both ladies were so absolutely gorgeous, it's a credit to them to not have had the success and rapt attention go to their heads.

Funny. I tried to meet her on broadway when she was doing sweet charity. She couldn’t be bothered. But who knows what kind of day she was having. Met Wayne Knight same day. He was awesome.
Christina came out recently and announced she had MS. I hope she's doing ok, she's a very cool lady.

It was at least 5 years into the series that I realized how much different Christina was than her character. I learned that from a Betty White interview when she stated that it takes a very intelligent woman to play a dumb one effectively in a comedy. RIP Betty.

Seriously the best Yank comedy of all time. Brilliantly written and at the same time, the acting needed not to be A grade, because there was that special formula was holding it all together.

She has always been adorable and still is today. Unfortunately, she has had health problems and has been open about them to the public. I always watched this show when it was on tv back in the early 90s. I wish her well.
I love Married with Children. The two things I loved best were, Kelly (of course) and Al's insults to fat women whenever they came into the shoe store or other places. Hilarious!

Christina in her private life has and is dealing with awful medical issues I am amazed how well she is surviving it all!!
Yeah, it broke my heart when she developed breast cancer and had to get a double mastectomy. At least she survived it. With today's advancement of breast construction and implants, she had no problem getting them done.

Only someone brilliant can truly pull off playing the part of the ditzy "dumb blonde". Applegate was amazing as was Lisa Kudrow at playing this role, both genius! The award, however, has to go with Jean Stapleton for her role as Edith Bunker (though she wasn't actually dumb just ditzy). Absolutely brilliant actress!

Show's the lady's versatility from Streets to Bundy's . The there was Jesse or the one with Will Arnette . Not sure which was first ?) She has proven here intelligence . I feel either can play a role for a bit . The real person shines through after being around a person for some time . Through breast cancer , career family . She's shown she deserves it . Rest is avoidable
The hair part made me lol. I was a young boy watching the show and I always wondered how her hair could change so dramatically, it never dawned on me back then. 😂
The writing and casting was sensational. Buck of course was the true star of the show.
Seasons 1-3: Golden
Seasons 4-5: Flawed but great
Seasons 6-8: Average at best
Season 9: Uh oh... autopilot incoming
Seasons 10-11: Mediocre. Full autopilot
Sorry, but Ed O'Neill who played Al Bundy was the real star of the show. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

I'm fascinated hearing about stars of the 70s, 80s & 90s (prior to the time of everyone using social media/internet multiple times daily). So many interesting things we were unaware of if we didnt catch them in an interviews or magazines, etc. I think theres a wealth of potential, interesting content there.
You didn't mention that she scored 4 touchdowns in the Polk High powder puff game.
Yeah she was great and I liked that aspect that they stuck together [with Bud] against the world, but would raz each other.
I think that after Married With Children, she could have done more Marylin Monroe types of comedic roles.
She was constantly fighting against being typecast, but she landed mostly on mediocre projects
I skipped school an ended up sneaking into the movies to watch Don't tell mom the babysitters dead, when it came out

One of my favorite movies of hers is "View from the Top" where she plays a stewardess. She's great in it. I also love her in "Dead to Me," that's a more serious role and she kicks ass with it.

I had a massive crush on the Sagel twins. I thought Double Trouble didn't get a fair chance when the changed the show's premise and moved the girls to NYC.

Remember a group of us going to the Mustang Ranch in the 90s after one of the guys finalized his divorce, and the rest of us hung out at the bar.
One of the girls was a dead ringer for Kelly and was the one that got picked every time she was in the lineup when a customer came in.

I always say that had it not been a "Married with Children", there would be no "Seinfeld". They pushed "boundaries" first. And many subsequent comedies followed.
in fact, if not for Married with Children there probably be no FOX. FOX was struggling at the time against the "Big Three" and needed something to set it apart. Married with Children was definitely that.

I heard she was a bit shy and her personal wardrobe in real life was the total opposite of Kelly Bundy. I seen her in the movie WONDERLAND. She was great in that movie. She's def a major talent in the business. She very believable in any role she takes on.
