Fab honestly has me worried, will there even be half the free models from Sketchfab? Will FNaF and other game models be downloadable on it? I just feel like it's a let down honestly
The announcement for it says they intend to make the models as universal as possible and even name-dropped Minecraft and Roblox as examples of other games.
I've saved a LOT of money by reading the reviews and Q/A. A lot of the time it's a good way of finding out how well a seller supports said asset. Like if there's a shader or something that has a discord server for support where the creator hasn't been active in a year and a half, that's probably a good indicator to not buy the asset in case you run into issues.
@@MattAspland they did change quixel though, saw another video saying it becomes payed from 2025, and you have to claim the current stuff available for free to be able to use it for free after the new year
So will all of our previous Marketplace purchases show in Fab? My Library? And for the love of all that is holy, will they have a better way to organize my library?? I hate either "The entire list" or "only these categories, assuming they are categorized correctly and fall within that, which a bunch of them do not" so I can group or isolate certain things?
All of your purchases and downloads will carry over to fab yeah. I think they’re are improving the search function with fab, so hopefully they make it easier. Because yeah I can spend minutes trying to find a specific pack sometimes
Honestly, I'm really not looking forward to them shoving all of their marketplaces together. It's hard enough to filter through the Unreal Marketplace on its own. I can't imagine it'll be better once they've combined all 4. I hope they prove me wrong though.
I’m hoping they prove us wrong too, I think they’re working a lot on the search features though so it might (hopefully) even be an improvement, rather than harder
How are new people that are just starting out going to get textures and basic stuff? I see making non unreal customers buy that stuff, but come on. The amount of money they have make from fort nite alone, they should not be charging unreal users for things that have been free.
I was never really a fan of browsing for assets on the Unreal Engine Marketplace. I want to search for assets that are popular/highly-reviewed, not necessarily what is the cheapest/newest.
On fence with how this is gonna go as I have a feeling the whole 'unreal won't cost' for game dev's might be changing. And With what's happening to Quixel's side of it, not a great sign. Also removing reviews apparently. Mind you a ton of the highest reviewed/star products that aren't animations/models, are just people dropping their discord id in to get verified. Broken system by Epic. :) But as long as they have a good refund systems. As reviews were helpful to see if someone dropped a product that turned out to be just a youtube tutorial they followed, with zero creativity of their own to it lol.
I agree, not sure how to feel about it yet. I’m just waiting to see, it definitely has potential, but has to be done correctly. I think they’ll still keep a lot of free stuff, but they might be pivoting to more paid stuff as well for extra stuff, while keeping all the basics free. Yeah it always annoys me when I see people doing that, but at least with those reviews you can still ignore any 5 star reviews that are asking for discord access. You can just focus on the real reviews that don’t mention discord. (If you can find them lol)
@@MattAspland Soon as I saw the layout for FAB I recognized it from kitbash3d's site. So expect a similar system. I just hope FAB doesn't give Unreal an excuse to make licensing a pain for developers like Reallusion's and DazStudio. Suddenly you're buying the marketplace product [model stuff mostly] while developing, and when ready to use it in a released game you need that license too. 😆That's just a fear based on the aforementioned. Only thing I'll not miss about not having the review comments, is seeing all those discord requests.
They haven’t mentioned it, but I assume it won’t be affected no. They’ve said they’re still offering free stuff, so my guess would be that we still get 5 assets each month!
Personally i think this is great for people who make assets Because Quixel is becomming paid, people that does 3d modeling will have more to sell and the same with people who do materials so they could have good turnover rate Nontheless i hope for the best
Man, you saved my day. I am about to start selling 3d assets and I heard the news about the merge. Panic is an understatement. I haven't felt more relaxed and good for myself by watching a video😂. Humanity Restored 😂
Sketchfab creators can go to a very bad place, their models is unfinished, missing textures and UVs and what not. Also horrible to import to Unreal, as the origin offset is far off, on most models
while i dont like unity being apart of it i do like what there doing i just hope unity doesnt ruin unreal engine with some fees good job unreal 10/10 even though unity is being apart of it still 10/10 good vid
They will be removing bridge and replacing it with a new app for Fab. Metahumans will remain on bridge for the moment, but will eventually be moved over to fab as well
Im suspecting its gonna be anti consumer. New platform means modern policies that benefit the company the most. Especially during this economic downturn and epic needing to churn money
@@MattAspland I do hope most policies regarding ownership and limitations of assets are mainly based on unreal marketplace. The rules there are the best for consumers. At least in comparison to art station which limits the use of assets to a single project and with limited commercial sales before a more expensive license is required. Of course this only matters if someone wants to follow the contract to the letter.
I can’t see anything regarding it, I hope they take on board what people are saying and make any necessary adjustments and changes. Merging so many different platforms into one requires care, attention, and lots of QA
@@MattAspland thank you for the reply. I don't want to have to rush to use. I was planning to only use it when my projected needed something specific. it would suck if it all went to waste

I assume it will be very similar, they’re just moving assets from sketchfab to fab. But we’ll have to see how they do it
The announcement for it says they intend to make the models as universal as possible and even name-dropped Minecraft and Roblox as examples of other games.
@@Isaacrl67 Ah okay, thank you!
Yeah, that's my concern. Anything that was previously free, now charged for. The cost of all of this just went up massively.
Dontstopbelievingman I don't like it either but the people that put the work in for this stuff ought to get paid somehow.
no reviews is kind of ridiculous, sometimes assets have certain issues people make buyers aware of before buying...
Yeah I’m really not a fan of that at all, I hope they change that. No matter how hard I think, I can’t imagine why they’d remove written reviews
@@MattAspland I'd love reviews that you had to have a confirmed purchase for
Absolutely! I believe that is how the Unreal marketplace works at the moment. You can also see if people received the product for free.
The only reason I can see is because a lot of creators used reviews as a purchase verification system.
@@KodakYarr No man. It was because Sellers abused it to trash the competition publicly. It was full of hate/name calling comments.

Great point! I’ve also read reviews that made me not buy an asset, and it’s only something you know AFTER buying it
Yeah, I find those reviews really valuable. If everyone struggled to make it work, I probably will too.
I hope the monthly free assets are still gonna be a thing, and also hope there will be alot of free stuff in general
Knowing how Epic Games and Unreal operates, I assume they’ll keep up a lot of free stuff, including the monthly assets

just another nail into a coffing of unreal engine.

This has always annoyed me, I never understood why it wasn’t a feature
No reviews is a bad idea unless they plan to review everything properly themselves.
Thanks for mentioning this, I'm gonna grab the free stuff while I still can. Btw, as a beginner, I love your videos, they helped me a lot.
That’s amazing to hear! I’m super happy I can help out! :)
i do like the sleekness smart way to add everything together
Can’t seem to recall any recent merging of corporate-y things that benefits the customer. Consolidation generally sucks for the customer.
