  • I love Slimbridge WWT and I want to share my passion for this amazing place, and the equally amazing WWT, with you so I made this video. It shows where I think the best locations are for the winter season there and is packed with lots of hints & tips, movie clips and great pics. So watch the video and use my knowledge to make your most of the day. It's split into two parts, a live section where I am onsite at Slimbridge and then a studio version with a map of the grounds pointing out where to go.
Note it's shot in the winter season, I will do one for the spring / summer season too.

Please join this great organisation and support their awesome conservation work for wetlands and the species that depend on them, we are full annual members and renew each year without even thinking about this. I have no affiliation with slimbridge and no relationship with anyone there, I am just a normal visitor who happens to be a professional photographer.
I will happily answer polite questions so feel free to stick then in the comments. If you have a photo location / hide or something that you think would be good for this channel then please add them to the comments below or email me on wildmanrouse@gmail.com
The WildBunch is my online community of like minded photographers with members from all corners of the globe. Every month I set a challenge for them, backed up with hints and tips, and we have a live ClubCast too where I show my work and theirs. Admired your photography for many years, but only recently discovered your TH-cam videos. Your enthusiasm and passion is infectious. And what a plug for slimbridge! It looks amazing.

The Peng observatory isn't really really cool - it's really really warm! Especially on a cold January day!

Very helpful. We now live about half an hour away and I imagine I’ll get an annual membership.

Really enjoyed that, thanks Andy. So refreshing to see a pro wildlife photographer being so positive about somewhere easily accessible for mere mortals!!

I went regularly when I lived in the area, but the last time I went, three coaches of school kids arrived the same time as me. It was St Trinians! I know they were there to learn, but I realised the next few hours would not be good for pictures. So I left!

Really enjoyed the video Andy. One of my favourite places and good to see your own experiences there. Have just been but must go back when that new aviary is open. We spoke to one of the bird trainers and the educational living wetland theatre demos with birds sound interesting too and might have some photo opportunities. Saw some Oystercatchers and Lapwings really close for photos at the South Lake hide - there’s always something unexpected for me! WWT do such great work.

Great tour of Slimbridge Andy :) Been a while since I was there but it was one of my main haunts when I was first getting into photography in the late 90s!
The ‘in focus’ hide was always my favourite for feeding time too :)

I'm really glad you made this video Andy, because Slimbridge is a place I've wanted to visit for years! I want to go even more now! Photographically speaking I'd be like a kid in a sweet shop! I use a mobility scooter too, so I'm pleased it's fully wheelchair accessible.

Thank you Andy, a great video. Very informative and fun as always. Welney is my nearest site, and I love it but I must get across to Slimbridge. It looks amazing, thanks again 📷👏

Thanks Andy , never been but will try to go soon , I have been a sports and event photographer , but beginning to get an interest in wildlife , as I will be returning to Thailand soon .
I am thinking of a pair of binoculars , but as a photographer for many years I know the names I should go for if I had deep pockets , but you point me in the right direction best of the cheaper ones , and magnification . thanks again .

Sure 10x42 are good and small. Olympus or Opticron are very good indeed.

Slimbridge is very close to me, so your video was extremely interesting but tell me, did you have to get permission to video there?

Great informative video for ANY visitors Andy, but good tips for photographers! A bit too far for a day out for us. But worth a visit if we are down that way for a few days. Cheers Pal.
