Personally I am over the Layton and Amanda drama. It’s getting ridiculous. Amanda is gone, period. Fans trying to make her come back is dumb. Layton ? If he was doing basic choreography I would gripe but he isn’t. Don’t care if he danced before, Nikita is not going easy on him and shouldn’t. He is putting in the hours and training like everyone else. Not voting for him for that reason is also dumb! My dislike this season is the judging! That to me is more concerning than the drama people are creating. Anton’s one up, Shirley’s ridiculous 10, critizing one dancer for not doing the proper dance but praising another for not doing the proper dance, calling out numerous mistakes and calling out missed timings and scoring them 8’s and 9’s? What the heck is going on? Total bias or bs? No credibility this season whatsoever. Sorry you want to gripe about unfair? Concentrate on the ridiculous judging!!!

I think nigel was bang on when he said on Saturday that when you watch Bobby dance you can see the joy he feels whilst dancing. My family adore his partnership with Dianne
I too love listening to you both. I am pleased James that you mentioned Angela Rippon's age, it does make a difference to stamina when you are older. My partner and I are in our early 70s and are taking ballroom dancing classes as beginners that we so enjoy, but we are conscious how challenging it is to do the quicker dances because of less agility than decades ago and, also, it takes longer to register the steps; we congratulate ourselves each week that we manage to learn a new step! We cannot imagine how the contestants learn so much in one week. Thanks again and I have pressed subscribe! 🚻

I felt like this week could have been better but in some cases the judges scoring was a LOT better than the last few weeks. Ellie is really becoming a contender and that’s what we all love to see. I just love her so much they both radiate so much positivity too!! Layton is amazing but even though he has immense talent you can see his ballroom is a place where he can really grow and he’s learning with every ballroom dance!! I can’t wait to see how everyone progresses with the build up to Blackpool!! 🎉
I really love Nigel and I just hope he can let go of the nerves and really give us that Week 1 feeling again! He definitely has it in him!
Even though I think bobby is better I think the judges have already decided on Ellie being the winner! Time will tell

I’m just in love with Bobby and Dianne, their dances are joyful. Dianne is an amazing teacher ,and you can see wants her partner to fall in love with dancing, it’s wonderful to watch
No wonder Joe Sugg fell in love with her, she has a great personality.
My favourites, sadly they won’t win, the judges already have their winner picked out! Same as X factor, BGT etc all reality shows are fixed in my opinion

I love Annnabel because she has no dance training, her early years being on the tennis court, but she is trying so hard and you can see she is loving it. I know her back story should not influence me but the fact that she is throwing herself into strictly is probably helping her to get back into life after her husband's death in May.
Annabel has a quite a few years of ballet under her belt ...

My favourite for this week was Angela S and Carlos' Black Swan. I found it riveting. I also loved Ellie and Vito's dance.
I do love that Krishnan is enjoying himself.
I think Adam is doing amazingly well for someone with arthritis. As someone who is riddled with it. I really applaud him. He must be in such pain but he keeps on with a smile on his face.

Re. Angela & Carlos's paso doble to Black Swan from _Swan Lake._ I was surprised that the music was not the famous hip-hop _Swan Lake,_ a short program skated by Daisuke Takahashi in 2008. It's still talked about in Japan in skating circles. Agree with James's prediction for next bottom two: Adam and Annabel. I thought she and Johannes were elegant and aristocratic. That's not enough at this stage, but they looked beautiful together. Kudos to the hair person who thought up little horns in a short Afro for Johannes.
I just love Layton and Nikita’s dance because they were amazing I’m supporting Nikita’s dance career ❤❤ great footwork the tension it was so good I’m happy for them I’m always voting for Layton and Nikita they need a perfect score of 40 this week 😊😊

And I’m pleased to say I’m spot on with you both…..having said that I stick feel the judges have favourites and the marks as you’ve said do not always make sense.
Ellie, Nikita and Nigel, perform and dances draw you in. Shirley is banging on about mistakes each week "play it back", she needs reminding its a Saturday night entertainment show, not a professional competition. She will take the joy out of the show if she is picky picky all the time and doesn't see the brilliance of a performance. Nigel and Katya have got that performance magic, and her choreography is first class. She gets what the audience at home wants, Shirley has lost sight of that.
Very much agree with the comment about Shirley. Also, gets very annoying the patty digs at each others comments amongst the judges, instead of entertaining, it comes across at childish

Thank you, I love this weekly chat, for me I found Halloween week a bit boring , which surprised me, as it’s normally my favourite week to watch. I can’t put my finger on it but feels like something is missing this year from the shows so far. Also very predictable, week on week, for example I think Angela R will make it to Blackpool because she has been there before as the host. Just my thoughts 😊

Totally agree with you!! Tbh, Halloween found it one of the more interesting weeks in at least a couple of years- can't fault the make-up and costume, as well as theatrics and staging, but it wasn't showstopping in the slightest.
Costume and make up were great as always, just felt a bit flat I thought, I also missed seeing Giovanni dance, as he always smashes it at Halloween . I personally would like to have guest judges every other week, just to mix it up, and keep it interesting.
James would be perfect, also Kevin Clifton, Janette and Aljaz would be fun too. 😀

I’ve only just found you! I’ve watched a couple of episodes so far (and will be watching more after this) I saw that Craig is leaving? May just be rumours though. But would that be a spot you’d like to fill James? I think you’d be tough but fair. I guess the problem I can foresee for you would be contractually not being able to do things like this or voice your personal opinions outside of the show.
But it would be great to see you take over 😊
I look forward to this every week now. I think Bobby and Dianne are under marked most weeks. I said exactly what James said, you cannot say it was equal to Zara and Graziano. It was definitely worth more than a 6!

Angela Rippon is getting over marked for TWO reasons - her age and that she used to host the original Come Dancing show. This is why and it stinks for me.

Yep I agree …Angela is very flexible and her marks are about an older lady doing the splits .. that Charleston was boring and slow just as bad as Zara’s

I do enjoy this evaluation just as much as past yrs from James. I do find myself agreeing with James more & looking out now for bits he comments on. Really enjoyed Leyton, Nigel & Angela S this week. I don’t think it helps when the judges mention footwork yet most the time we’re watching waist up! I feel Carlos has a bit of I’m best look at me & I feel he competes with his partners instead of show casing them this weeks was first I’ve enjoyed of theirs. I do get the Angela R stance of her age christ I couldn’t do that at 20! But I don’t feel they give her any critique & as she’s not getting 10’s there’s things she needs to work on like they tell to all others as good as, some better than her so I don’t think helps Angela corner. I think they want her there to Blackpool for nostalgia & that’s a full circle for her, which will be nice. Danger zone think Annabelle, Adam & Angela S due more to not having the supporters to vote perhaps but they give their all. And I agree with others get James in as a judge🙌🙌🙌

Definitely! Yh they're definitely the least popular couples currently- unless something drastic happens, it'll be the three of them gone over the next three weeks (or maybe Krishnan if it's Krishnan vs Angela in the dance-off). We shall see though!!
Idk about Adam - I was trying to save my fav's lower down and I felt those higher up could survive. However it's got to the stage where I will be looking more at who I felt deserves to survive. I knew it would be Zara probably.
Krishnan is probably going around Blackpool - if you look at contestants like him in previous years - Ed Balls and Susan Calman went the week after Blackpool and Tony Adams the week before.
I think Kai is being very clever with his chreography for Angela.
It was a great show this week. My favourite bit was watching Bobby rocking “the Jimmy shimmy Jordan move “😂

Very fair logical analysis for everyone; and yes Angela Scanlon and Carlos have a lovely partnership which has been undermarked until this week - where they performed to a level of detail which left the judges NO option but to give them decent marks. No favours done.
Annabel is being carried by the wonderful Johannes and her error rate is rising like that of Nigel, and therefore should be in the bottom 2 with the soap actor who has been in the bottom 2 the last 2 times and he may escape again.
i think angela scanlon is the best dancer in the show & i knew james would warm to her & carlos!! strictly winners for me!!

When Katja has a partner that has a bit of talent/or ability to go far in the competition she puts too much into her routines. It then pushes them too far, and mistakes are made... just like she did with Adam Peaty. Tone it down slighty (and stop being all over him like a rash!!)😊
Dwts viewer from California here, I thought Bobby’s Cha Cha was really cute. The part where he twirled Dianne on the floor was really cool. Maybe even better than Ellie’s who I also thought was great. I mean, the dance itself was fun (not a big fan of the music choice…maybe that’s what threw me off) but when I compare it to Hamza’s EPIC salsa from last year, it doesn’t stand a chance. And I agree, her Paso was so much better.🙂

I don't think Angela was overmarked due to her age but what bothered me was that she made more obvious mistakes than Nigel (myself and everyone who I was watching with failed to even notice nigels mistakes) and she got scored higher with way more positive comments

It’s interesting with the critique on Saturday shows I listen to Craig & Anton and fast forward through the ladies, they seem to get on my nerves 😟 yet I fully listen to this podcast as it seems more natural - so keep on keeping it real James 👏👏👍👍👍
I totally agree, can I say that I am really enjoying your honest and professional opinion, I've always liked listening to the judges comments but have always felt that they don't always say what everyone else is actually thinking, and skirt around to say something nice. My fave are Diane and bobby, Ellie and vito❤
I almost think the REAL competition hasn’t started. No one except for maybe EllIe and Layton have had breakout performances. I do not want Adam to go home., I think he’s one of my absolute favorites, especially who don’t have any training. I think A REALLY nice latin number would REALLY help him.this season more than ever I can see the producers hand in the show which is slightly taking away some of the enjoyment!!
It seems 2023 is now the worst year for judges scoring. How the viewers decide is purely on their own choices, never look at the judges scores. I think what James suggested last week needs to happen - the judges scores should only be a guidance for viewers & not for the final vote, like how it is at the final. Judges can have a role in the dance off, but not for the rest of the show. Anyone agree?

I still don’t think judges comments reflect the scores sometimes. I hate that it appears there are obvious favourites. Motsi is the worst for that.
I loved Layton and Nikita - My fav of the night. I agree Ellie was quite heavy at times but still a great performance. Angela S is super popular, I believe she will make it to the semis if not the final - it will be between her , Ellie or Layton - the other 2 finalists will be Nigel and Bobbie. I was in the studio on Saturday and the show was amazing . I actually picked the bottom 2 of the night - I wasn't surprised Adam was one of the B2 with Zara.
Adam is doing a Rumba next Saturday, hard one after being in the B2 .... fingers cross for him

I think Katya and Vito are both choreographing at too much of a high level. It makes Ellie’s movements look heavy as it’s too fast for her and Nigel seems to make mistakes each week due to the choreography being too hard.

I really enjoy this post dance critique from James & Emmy. I get that SCD is an entertainment show, but I can guarantee you that if I was a contestant I would 💯 chose Craig as my judge if I could only select one from that panel. My aim would be to leave the show as a better dancer. I’d rather shed tears & stick pins in a voodoo doll of Craig than have the wishy washy marshmallow, over marking nonsense from Anton. If you implement & work on the critique you will improve. I wish I could replace Anton with James. I don’t always agree with his scores (we differ on Bobby), but he is balanced & honest in his appraisal. It’s a blessing to have this channel. Thank you both 🧡X
Lauren choreos to showcase herself. I’m so sorry but she’s my least fave professional. I remember her before as a group dancer & didn’t like the way she always dogged up the (pretty) celeb dancers. I find her false. Really sorry, because it does cloud my judgement of her celeb partner. Krishnan is doing well.

I always vote for the people i like at the bottom of the leaderboard because I worry they aren’t safe. I usually vote Adam & Luba but this week thought they’d be safe. Still think Angela was overmarked her timing was off, plus she’s never had a bad comment from the judges, when the rest do.
The BBC/Strictly Producers are ensuring Angela gets to Blackpool because that is where the original Come Dancing ballroom dancing show, hosted by her, was broadcast from. I wouldn’t mind betting her routine for Blackpool has already been sorted as well as the promotional hype segments.
Angela R will make it at least to Blackpool, for sure. Completely off- topic but I miss Gorka's routines this year -

I thought when I heard the scores and when Shirley called out the professional dancer she said about his lack of footwork and it made me smile and I believe they have been listening to you. I think Ellie was overmarked and found her very heavy footed and in between movements she stood still and lost flow. I like the younger Angela as she has fantastic footwork and yes when you train as an Irish dancer it is all about posture but she won’t find the steps hard compared to the complicated steps we trained from a young age. The biggest dance show in the world is Lord of the Dance so I’m biased. 😂.

Why always go down that road when there is a good partnership - He was the same with Fleur last year- The difference is the public did not quite like her. Fleur was funny, a great dancer, and had a fantastic partnership with Vito. Also, Vito stands out more this year because Gorka is already out of the competition 😂 (you guessed who is my fav pro)
He was super-gung-ho with Fleur, also. It's his profession, after all, so he desperately wants to win. It could be as simple as that.
I don’t believe their is any kind off love interest with Vitto and Elle .. the guys just a great teacher .. he behaved the same with Fluer East and they are still good friends to this day .. no funny stuff going on with those two.
Vito is the same from last year!! He loves Fleur...he went to her mums bday parter in September. Besties!

Like the analysis. Pretty much agree but found the show rather flat.
Halloween week of the past was far better, I agree. I have been watching some routines from when Len and Bruno and Darcy were on the panel, around 2013 to 2016 and it is miles better.
Love nigel and ellie but i feel its not like when you and ola was on it, group dances dont have that enjoyment like in your day james I've watched since 2004 my favourite program and dancing on ice too

I don’t agree with the danger zone predictions fully. Adam is popular, I honestly think he was only in the bottom because he was forgotten a little, next week he’ll probably get extra votes to compensate for this so I don’t think he will be. Annabel is trickier, she hasn’t had a particularly strong performance yet but she’s admired and Johannes is very popular so I’m not sure if they will just yet. I think it depends on their dance this week, she’s very elegant so if they get a slow ballroom dance and finally deliver something special then they’ll be safe. I agree with Angela & Carlos, I don’t find her particularly likeable and unfortunately the Asian pro dancers don’t resonate particularly well with viewers because of the differences culturally and with language. All the International pros that are/were very popular (Oti, Dianne, Johannes, Giovanni, Vito) either speak English as their first language or they’re from western countries, usually Europe. I’ll say Angela & maybe Krishnan.
I do feel they, including James, are gas-lighting us about Angela's dances. What does James think we couldn't do about the sitting down on a bench bit of the routine? It was completely straight-forward and easy.
Any other person doing that routine would not have got the same marks.
Craig made an idiot of himself first by giving Bobby a 6!!! And then giving Angela Rippon a 9 for what he called a swivel master class. Watch that back and tell me that was swivel masterclass. It’s time Craig hung up his paddle he doesn’t even know what ballroom and Latin footwork he is meant to be looking for. I love Layton - Ellie and Bobby for all different reasons but ultimately they all entertain and give it 100% every week. Nigel is boring.
Craig defended his "9" on the Sunday night fake let's pretend it's not Saturday night recorded results show, where he said it's all about personal opinion which is why there are 4 judges on the panel. That didn't wash with me. He is never fair, never balanced.
I adore Layton. I never thought I would, but come week 2, I was on his side. Great lad.
I feel like the only reason that Anabelle is still in the competition is because she is partnered up with Johannes who is one of the most popular pros.
I thought Ellie and Vito's salsa had too many lifts, but lifts are people pleasers and hide the rest of the dance. I thought Ellie's salsa moves were clunky. Amazed by the high marks!

I loved Layton's dance but I don't want him to win.

They were from broadway, west end, pop artist, hip hop artist, and ice dancers and gymnasts. Some won and some didn’t. You seem to believe while everyone is training they go for dinner and drinks and just show up on Saturday? Really? Just because they’ve danced before doesn’t mean they are given easy choreography, they are given more difficult choreography. None are professionally trained in ballroom and all state how difficult it is. So they work their butts off, put in the hours, and learn a new dance style that is technically challenging and very precise but that’s not enough growth for you? Hmmmm? Concentrate on the crappy judging that to me is the drama this season not whether Layton works as hard as the others.
Ellie is trained in ballet, tap and street dance. Angela R is experienced specifically in ballroom. Nigel was the lead in Mamma Mia. Angela S did Irish dancing. Yet only Layton gets the hate, of course.

Amanda has been totally disrespectful for not thanking Gio - and after the great scores she received. If you can’t stand the heat you shouldn’t have agreed to enter the Strictly kitchen ! Never too late to make amends !? However, that lift, Gio what were you thinking !? Are the dances not monitored ?
Angela, enjoy her dancing - just wish that she could find a 4th gear.

Ellie, she is one go getter. Looks so comfortable dancing with Vito and really enjoying herself.
Adam is doing decently for someone with rheumatoid arthritis at his age. Nigel has a lot of middle aged women voting for him which should keep him safe
Nigel still has a lot of women and indeed some men who liked him in Eastenders 20 years ago - I remember I fancied him back in 2003 when he was in that show.
Bobby looked like Mick Jagger. I agree Angela Rippon was overmarked and I wish she would close her mouth. There wasn’t enough content for me.
I preferred the judges when it was Craig, Darcy, Len and Bruno - now in 2023, the judges panel is probably one of the most fake I have ever seen. Certainly Motsi and Shirley have their own plan of who they want to be in the final. Anton seems to just look at what the other judges score and add one extra point to it. Craig is his usual self, but seems to be more of a hack for the producers. I miss Len being head judge. RIP Len. True gentleman of Strictly.
I dont think it fair to judge Angela Rippon, the way they do age or not, when they have disabled dancers it isn't taken into consideration.
I think Adams fans forgot to vote for him, people must vote.
