    Media Replacement has arrived in Motion Graphics Templates. This new feature (as of 2021) has opened a new world of possibilities in not only templates but all after effects projects. If you have not used this feature before, I hope this introduction to the concept can get you started.
    Imagine that most layers can now be dynamically changed without needing new compositions. Clients can swap out a logo, certainly. Or change footage in a motion montage. That's cool too. But because any layer can be swapped out, that means that any source or base for effects can also be changed, so the possibilities for procedural graphics just got a whole lot more modular.

    First of all, many thanks @ECAbrams for yet another mind expanding video.
    One of your comments further down made me aware that you can pull a comp into the essential graphics panel and make it a piece of replaceable media. Now this sounds exiting like black magic but is at the same time equally hermetic. I can envision some clever usage and thus tested it via a MOGRT that I imported to PP. There I tried to replace the media/composition. Naturally, compositions are not valid file options, but I was pleased to see that AEP files are. When I tried out such a swap, PP simply crashed.
    So what's a usecase for comps as replaceable media at all?
    And I should add that 1 hour of black belt Google Foo on that topic didn't even bring up half an answer.

    Hey Evan! I just wanted to say, a few years ago I was down in a rut because I thought I painted myself in a corner by becoming a ‘jack-of-all-trades’. I commented on one of your videos and your answer really challenged me. I kept thinking back to it from time to time. Well this week I was offered a really nice job as a AD and being able to do a bit of everything is really what they needed. Anyway I just wanted to share this, and thank you for your great videos and your answer a couple years back! Cheers :)

    I knew you would have the best explanation for this new feature.
    I'm actually using this feature in a MOGRT but I have a unique challenge and I'm very curious as to how you would solve it...
    I have a logo that animates in. Underneath that logo, WORDMARK.png will fade in afterwards, which will be replaced by the user/editor in Premiere. This PNG will vary in width, depending on the user, and it is not centre aligned with the above logo as it is aligned with a design element of the above logo, but the logo + PNG need to be centred on the screen as a group as it fades in. How would you solve getting that variable end centred position keyframe of the logo group to come over to Premiere in the Essential Graphics panel? I hope this makes sense. I'd love to get your thoughts on this.
    Thanks!

    @Tom10 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Evan, this is a masterpiece of explanation - fast, but to the point where its very informative! Do you have any clues how swapping of media happens under the hood, when the same primary is re-used with different media elements? Like what you have done ~ 03:58. In the past, this would have been possible only my making duplicates in the project panel, and replacing media inside them. Now - its a brand new story!
    Last one thing - do you happen to notice how much it affects previewing/rendering? As I assume it comes with a cost of some sort. Cheers!

    I need you help very badly . I received a footage from a client and when i import it to After effects it looks very flat . I need to add effects on it but since it looks very flat I cant really work on it (For greenscreen keying, the greenscreen looks grey) ..Please let me know which color settings I should choose to fix that , so that I can work on it ..The footage is standard REDRaw and transcoded without a LUT . Plz this is very urgent .Hope you will help !

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this "without a LUT" part is the key. Your footage looks flat because it was captured in a different colour space from the one you are looking at in. If you want to convert it, or preview a conversion of it, you might just drop a LUT effect on an adjustment layer over everything. That will show what will happen with it is correctly converted from one colour space to another. I have a tutorial about colour spaces that might help you understand what's going on and what adjustments you may need to make to your specific workflow th-cam.com/video/Tf3x4dhxydk/w-d-xo.html there are many complexities when it comes to using this kind of footage.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can uncheck the CR switch and it should work just fine. You might precompose as well. Do those work arounds help at all?

    • @TheGavinAsh
      @TheGavinAsh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECAbrams The client I have has a bunch of logos for their different brands in AI format, but they need to be scaled up 300% to not be tiny in AE. So they are fuzzy without CR enabled. Precomposed they just show up small. Really annoying that CR doesn't work!

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGavinAsh What if you made a comp that is very large. This 300% size. Filled that with a sized up logo. And use the comp as the thing you swap out since a comp can be dropped in the media replacement zone?

    • @TheGavinAsh
      @TheGavinAsh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECAbrams I thought so too, but even making a 12K comp, it still comes out a little soft. The only way I can see fixing it is going through and scaling up the artboards in the dozens of AI files themselves, so they don't need AE to scale them. Maybe Adobe can implement CR for Media Replacement soon. Seems like it could be so useful!

      Or a way to replace a folder of source files for several compositions with another source file?

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you're looking for a batch replacement concept? You might use an external file like a json or something to change the file path perhaps? Does that make sense? Or are you looking to drag in many items instead of having to drag in many one at a time?

    • @SubscribeToTheChannel
      @SubscribeToTheChannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECAbrams Thank you for your response!
      The second one is more so what I’m looking for. Basically, I’ll have one format for images to ‘float’ randomly in space from left to right and I’ll green screen myself in front of it. Then I plan to swap out the file sourcing all the photos whenever the topic changes, i.e. pictures of cows to pictures of dogs, etc.

  • @mcstronghuge

    I started using Essential Graphics for a few projects recently - and I wish I had seen this sooner!
    That said, I have a question - Do you have any recommendations for keeping AE-based Essential Graphics lightweight, so that when you use them in abundance on a Premiere sequence, it doesn't blow out your computer's memory?

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good questions. It's a bit early for me to say definitively. I'm sure with more time I'll have some insight into the matter. For now I use the same principals we do inside Ae to keep things lean. Simplified expressions. Reducing references. Anything that can bring down the render time per frame will have the same yield in Pr.

  • @thisisminiman
    @thisisminiman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the new Media Replacement option, but does anyone else suffer from ridiculously long render times when using the templates at MOGRTs in Pr? If I render out from AE it takes a fraction of the time. Is anyone else having that issue? I have a feeling I just made my template a little too clunkyily in AE and need to consolidate it a bit.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can get chonky sometimes. I would definitely look into seeing what you can trim out. As I understand it, the more processes Pr has to "Check in" with Ae about the more intensive it will be on your system.
