Hi mam. Before 14 years when I was in 11th standard, I remember asking my English teacher a question with "Can you help me?" She stopped me and explained that am not supposed to use Can while addressing to her. Meaning we should use 'Could" when we talk to people who are at a higher grade / age / designation and not Can. Is the understanding right? Please clarify
