The first one was a penalty. The second one should not have been called. Lavalle was barely touched, was not in a position to score, nor was she in a position to pass the ball well. This game was given to the US unjustly. It should have gone to extra time.

I keep watching this again, and again,, so intense feeling.. both teams want to win, and put their all.. If I were at the Rapinoe, I would have missed the second penalty kick because of intense game pressure from Spanish Stars. Anyway, Spanish keep showing they are really great team in the World. I'm super late to this video lol. To be honest, from watching the whole match (and not just the highlights), Spain probably deserved to at least take the game to extra time. They put in a huge defensive effort, and the USA had sloppy play out from the back on numerous occasions, which Spain took advantage of for the fantastic goal from Hermoso. Yes, there was the dive from Corredera, but Lavelle almost certainly dived for the 2nd penalty and should have been booked for simulation. For me, that would have changed the whole complex of the game.

There is no "best" team because that reference depends on factors that constantly change, for example in this game, Spain was kinda weak cuz their majority of OG players(15 of them) are on strike cuz their coach is a lowlife and they refuse to play under his direction.

i am sorry....what game were you guys watching? the first penalty the spanish player steps on the foot of the american player,not only does that hurt like hell but it´s a clear foul and penalty. a spanish player should have been sent off with a red card for that studs first slide into o´riley. the second penalty a bit shady but there was contact....i am fine with the refs call!
Exactly right. I would add that had Spain not been making contact away from the ball so much, that last penalty on Lavelle may not have been called. Often there are make up calls when a ref knows fouls are being made away from the point of play that they do not see.

I am American. The US seemed like the better side. But, the second penalty should not have been called. You don’t just give a team a victory like that in a World Cup. It should have gone to extra time.

The second penalty was not clear to me. I would love to hear what Lavelle would later say about it. If unfair advantage was gained on Spain, they deserve an apology. I know this sounds weird and unpractical but I think this is how it should be. Referee could be another issue.

Both times the American players dive. Was there contact. Yes. But very little. The American players took 2 more step after contact On each call. Then through themselves to the grown wants they knew there was no advantage.

technically both penalties but they were pretty soft. you definitely don't award the second one when the game is tied 1-1.the second one was barely a touch. she took 3 more steps after the initial contact, then she realized she lost the ball, she fell to the ground and it payed off.

I agree with you on the first statement, but the penalty box is not there for the soul purpose of penalty kicks. As a goalkeeper, the box is there for the advantage of the goalkeeper, so to shrink the box would be a disadvantage to the goalkeeper.
